Why do I need to verify every time I log into QB's?

Hi there, jmirit.

Thanks for letting us know in advanced that you already turned off the setting to receive a code. In this case, I'd recommend reaching out to our phone and chat support teams. They can verify your account and check why you're still asked for code.

Here's how:

  1. Click Help in the upper right-hand corner of QBO.
  2. Click Talk to a human, then type in Talk to a human.
  3. Select I still need a human.
  4. Click Contact Us.
  5. Select Get a callback.

Our support teams are open from Monday to Friday, in between 6 AM to 6 PM Pacific Time.

The Community is always here if you need anything else.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Mhoward685. The security tab can be found under the Overview tab marked Sign in and security, as seen below, once signing into your Intuit account

You can refer to this article for more details on how to disable two-step verification. Please let me know if you need additional screenshots or have questions. I will be here in the Community. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Why do I need to verify every time I log into QB's?

I followed the instructions but two step verification was not enabled yet I get verified every single time that I log in. This is frustrating to say the least

I can imagine the hurdle you're facing right now, @jimlemire.

Let me route you to the right support to help you get past the multi-factor verification in QuickBooks Online.

Since following the steps given by my peers above didn't work, I recommend getting in touch with our live support. They can check further why you're verified every time you logged in even though the two-step authentication is disabled.

To accomplish this, you can follow the steps outlined by my peer @JenoP. Before you proceed, please review our support hours so they can assist you promptly.

Do you need more account management tips  in QuickBooks? You can visit our general resource page to get these details.

Comment back below if you have more account management concerns. I'm here to assist you always.

Why do I need to verify every time I log into QB's?

Good morning, jp69.

Thanks for following up on this thread. I'd be glad to provide some additional info so you're able to get the two-step verification turned off when logging in to your QuickBooks Online account.

Since you mentioned you did turn off the two-step feature, I recommend clearing the browser cache. The cache is used to collect frequently used data to make loading web pages quicker and easier. Every so often it can get too full and potentially cause viewing and performance errors. Clearing it will force the system to refresh and remove what's preventing the verification from being turned off. For example, here's how to get this done in Chrome:

1. Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
2. Select More Tools, then Clear Browsing Data.
3. Change the time range to All Time.
4. Only check Cached images and files.
5. Click Clear data.

The following linked article provides similar steps for other browsers: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online

After completing these steps, try turning off the two-step verification once more. Please know I'm only a comment or post away if you have any other questions.

Why do I need to verify every time I log into QB's?

This problem seemed to correct itself for a while but is now back.  My settings were already correct.  When will this be permanently fixed?  It is very annoying to have to sign in several times each day.

Thanks for joining this thread, jskish.

I've reviewed our ongoing/solved investigations and can confirm there's currently none about the two-step verification feature displaying while it's turned off in settings.

Since you're being prompted for authentication upon signing in, I'd recommend performing MorganB's troubleshooting steps. If the problem continues after clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while using QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then click Let's talk.
  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

If there's any questions, I'm just a post away. Have a fantastic day!

Why do I need to verify every time I log into QB's?

This is not true. I get verified every time I log in in spite of the fact that two step verification is shut off!

Why do I need to verify every time I log into QB's?

I'm using QB Online.

I've never had two-step verification turned on.

I'm continually asked to verify. If I shut my laptop, I have to go through it all over again...a dozen or more times a day.....

There appears to be no solution to this.

Why aren't you fixing this?

Thanks for following up on this thread, marciaeyster.

Intuit provides security settings to verify that you're the one signing in to your account using the unique code and password.

You can also turn this off in just a few steps. Before we proceed, I'd suggest that you open a private window from your browser. Below are the keyboard shortcut keys to open a private window:

  • Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari (for Mac): press Command + Shift +N
  • Microsoft edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N

Once your private window is up, you can follow these steps to disable two-step verification.

If you're using the same phone number, here's how:

  1. Log in to your Intuit account using this link: https://accounts.intuit.com/
  2. From the left menu, choose Sign In & Security.
  3. In the “Two-step verification” section, select Turn off.
  4. Enter the code, then select Continue.

Otherwise, if you're using a different phone number, you'll need to update it first then turn off the two-step verification.

Like this:

  1. Fill up the Email Change Request form.
Reminder: Make sure to put your new phone number in the Recovery Number field.
  2. Upload any copy of your photo ID forms:
      a. Click on Browse.
      b. Find and select the file.
      c. Select Open.
  3. Once done, click on Submit.
  4. You'll receive a notification that your phone number is updated
  5. Log in to your Intuit account using this link: https://accounts.intuit.com/
  6. Choose Sign In & Security tab.
  7. In the “Two-step verification” section, click on Turn off.
  8. Enter the code, then select Continue.

That'll surely let you sign in to your account using a password only.

You can also check this link on how to change the email address linked to your QuickBooks Online account.

I'll be here if you still have questions and clarifications about account verifications. Enjoy your week!

Hi slandry,

I see that everyone is thinking strangely as to why you're still asked to verify your account even if your 2FA is turned off. We'll check this for you, but I will have to route you to our Support team outside the Community. That way, they pull up your account in a more secure environment and use more tools to gather more data to investigate this further.

  1. Go to the Help menu and select the Search tab.
  2. Click Contact Us at the bottom.
  3. Type your concern in the box and hit Let's talk or Continue
  4. Choose either Get a callback or start a chat
  5. Enter the required data and submit the request.

If you have other questions in mind, feel free to go back to this thread.

Has your problem been resolved yet?  I cannot get anyone to respond to me nor resolve this issue (along with others).  Frustrating and discouraging.

Hello Michael DL I followed the steps you provided. But I still am not able to log in without 2 step verification. It says it's off, but I still have to do the 2 step verification when I log in.

Why do I need to verify every time I log into QB's?

Hello @johnbobthecorncob,

Two-factor authentication is intended to provide additional security as a requirement for customers upon login. Even if you've turned it off from the security settings, it'll still ask for a code sent via email or mobile number.

This article will discuss more of this section: Additional login and confirmation code. Even if this article is tagged for QuickBooks Payments, the same principle applies as it discusses your login confirmation.

Additionally, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Account Management for QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other questions, please let me know by leaving any comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.
