Adding a second bank account

I tried adding a second bank account To my QB app and when I do it tells me to click a bank to connect it to (first bank that I added) then it says error that my QB already has a bank. Are we only allowed one bank per QB account? I have several business bank accounts from different banks. How do I add all of them into QB?

Adding a second bank account

Hi there, Jwongpt.

Let me share some insights on how bank feeds work in QBO.

You should be able to connect multiple bank accounts from different banks. However, you're unable to add a parent account and its subaccount of the same financial institution. If you try to connect both, you’ll get a message that the account is already connected.

To ensure that you'll get all your transactions, you'll have to check how your bank sends the downloaded transactions. If the transactions are downloaded to one account, you'll only need to connect the parent account. If the transactions are downloaded to the individual accounts, you'll have to add the subaccounts and not the parent account. Here's how:

  1. From the main menu, select Banking.
  2. Tap the Plus icon to add an account.
  3. Search for your bank or choose from the list of popular banks.
  4. Select your bank from the search results, then sign in to your online banking account.
  5. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the process.

In addition, keep in mind that you only need to reconcile the parent account because all transactions in the subaccounts roll up into it.

I also encourage reading this article to help manage your bank transactions and determine which QBO mobile app features are supported on mobile devices:

Hi paperbirch,

Thank you for joining the conversation. I guess Klent made a typographical error. You'll want to click the Link account button instead.

If you have other questions about connecting an account, feel free to go back to this thread. Take care and have a  good one!

Adding a second bank account

Hello all

I do not see a "Banking" Icon to the left. Do I need to change something in order to see this? It looks like if I could access that, I will be able to add that other account.

Thank you all

Adding a second bank account

Glad you've come to this thread, Tony. I'll ensure to get things done for you by providing you with additional insights.

If you're adding another banking account in QuickBooks Online, you may access the banking section in two different ways. In your case, it may be that you're currently in a Business view interface. That said, I've added screenshots for visual preferences.

Here's how:

  1. From the left menu, go to Bookkeeping and click Transactions. Then, select Bank transactions.
  2. Select Link account.
  3. In the search field, enter the name of your bank, credit card, or credit union.
  4. Select Continue. Then sign in to your bank with your user ID and password.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps. It might include security checks your bank requires and could take a few minutes to connect.
  6. Select the accounts you want to connect, then click the account type ▼dropdown. Choose the account type that matches your chart of accounts in QuickBooks.

Also, if you're in an Accountant view access, you can go to Banking and click Link account. You can refer to this article for more detailed insights: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, if you're integrating your bank account using your QBO mobile app, you can follow the steps shared by my colleague, KlentB, above.

Moreover, I've included this guide to help you review and match your accounts once downloaded: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to let us know if you require additional assistance connecting bank accounts in QBO. We'll get back to you and respond at any time. Have a good one!

Adding a second bank account

Hello, @kcervino1

Are you trying to add the second bank account using the mobile app or through your browser on a computer? If you're using a web browser on a computer, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Banking.
  2. Select Link account.
  3. Enter the URL or name of your bank in the Search field, then select the bank.
  4. Enter your sign info in the Login and Password fields, then select Continue.
  5. Select the account that you want to connect and date to pull transactions from the dropdown. Then, select Next. Some banks let you download the last 90 days of transactions. Others can go back as far as 24 months.
  6. Select your account type on the Account type dropdown, then select Next. Choose the one that matches your chart of accounts in QuickBooks. If you don’t see the correct account type, select +Add new.
  7. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

If you are using the mobile app:

  1. Open the app and log in to your account.
  2. Navigate to the section related to bank accounts or transactions.
  3. Click the Plus (+) icon.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to proceed.

If it's missing, you can offload app data through your phone's settings. This refreshes the app and clears any potential data conflicts. Here's how you can do it:

Android:

  1. Open your device settings.
  2. Select Apps (varies by device).
  3. Choose QuickBooks Online from the list, then select Storage.
  4. Select Clear data.

iOS:

  1. Head to your phone's settings.
  2. Choose General, then select iPhone Storage.
  3. Tap QuickBooks Online from the application list.
  4. Select Offload App.

Moreover, if you can’t find or connect your bank, you can manually upload transactions instead. After that, you can categorize them in the For Review tab.

If you encounter any issues or have further questions during the process, please don't hesitate to let us know. We're here to help and ensure you successfully add your second bank account.

I'm not sure what you are talking about when you say "main Menu".  In Quickbooks online there is no "main Menu"

Hi, Go Green Pest Control.

I'm here to share clarification about adding bank accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The "main menu" mentioned by my colleague in this thread is for the QBO mobile app. Since you're using the web version, you can locate the Banking (or Bookkeeping) menu on the left pane.

Here's a sample screenshot from my test account.

To learn more about managing and connecting bank accounts in QBO, check out this article: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.

Once connected, the system automatically downloads the latest transactions and suggests categories for these transactions based on how you, and other customers, categorized similar transactions. Refer to this article for further guidance: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Also, I recommend performing a reconciliation regularly to ensure your account is balanced and accurate. Visit this article for future reference: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Please leave a comment below if you have more questions about this or anything else. I'll be here to assist. Take care.
