Join nowMy bank no longer supports IE. I does support Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. People have been complaining about this problem for at least a year. Having to do manual downloads in 2021 is ridiculous, especially since QB is not the most budget-friendly option out there. Is there any reason Intuit is forcing users into IE and do they have any plans to restore full functionality to users who can't use IE?
I see your point, @RockyCat.
QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) recommends using Internet Explorer (IE) when connecting your bank to the system. It is also the default browser when accessing the internet and other online services.
As an alternative, I recommend manually uploading your transactions. Let me guide you how.
You can also check the Import Web Connect (.qbo) file section in this article for more details: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.
Once you’re done, you can now confidently categorize your transactions and reconcile your accounts in the future. To be guided accordingly, you can utilize these links for reference:
I can see having the option to set another default browser in QBDT is a great additional feature to the system. Rest assured our Product Developing team is always looking for ways in improving QuickBooks. To stay current on the latest updates and improvements about QBDT, you can visit our Product Updates page for reference.
If you need further assistance uploading your transactions or with your account, you can always tag me in your reply. I’ll be around ready to help you any time. Have a great day ahead.
Thank you for ignoring my problem and replying with EXACTLY the information I asked not to receive. I am perfectly capable of finding that information myself and, as I mentioned, I already had it.
There is no reason whatsoever that after this much time and this many people clearly stating that their banks do not support IE, that is the only browser that QB offers. Unlike your statement that it is nice to have another browser "option," we do not have any "option." I don't "dislike" IE for some reason, I don't "prefer" Chrome or Safari, etc. A notable number of banks DON'T SUPPORT IE. That does not make another browser a choice. It's a necessity and after a year or more of customers making this complaint I do not believe for a second that your "Product Developing team is always looking for ways in improving QuickBooks."
Using QB is a choice rather than a necessity and it might be helpful if your Product Developing team realized that.

Ok, so here it is Oct 2021. I deal with 2 banks with my business. In the past couple months, both banks have made changes and no longer support Internet Explorer, so after years of downloading bank feeds, I have to learn manual downloads for two banks, one of which does not download the Payee name. I'm not so happy. Please QB, the reason we all use QB is to make our lives easier.
Work with us.
Thank You.
Thanks for joining this thread, PQ1.
I can certainly understand how an ability to set up bank feeds without the use of Internet Explorer could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.
You can also submit your own feature requests while using QuickBooks.
Here's how:
Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.
As a workaround, you can import transactions manually using the steps from JasroV's post.
I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have an awesome weekend!
So, I just went into QB Desktop 2021 to pull in 2 clients' bank feeds, and to my (lack of) surprise, I'm still not able to run bank feeds through QB automatically due to this whole IE browser requirement embedded in the product (the bank in question - Synovus - now requires Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).
It seems very strange that a company such as QB, who takes security so seriously, is requiring the use of browser technology that banks across the country are moving away from.
Can anyone provide an ETA as to when QB will be updated to allow for the use of Chrome, etc?
Thank you for joining the thread and letting us know about the status of your bank, @Brian the Bookkeeper.
You might not be able to connect your bank to QuickBooks for some reason. When installing an update, you need to restart your computer to ensure that all system components are working.
To ensure you get the most recent improvements of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), I recommend updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. It is to assure your program has the most up-to-date security features and updates this way.
For now, you can check your internet security requirements in the Internet Explorer settings. Let me guide you how:
From there, look for any display issues as you navigate the website. You can also check your bank website for announcements about new security requirements.
If everything is fine, do a manual download:
Once done, go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions. For additional information, let me add an article that will guide you on how to import web connect (.qbo) files.
Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:
I'll always be here if you need more assistance with bank feeds. Wishing you and your business continued success.
Me to .. just invested the money for the new version.. and now I feel duped!
