How do I delete a bank account? Accidentally attached my personal account to QuickBooks now my budgets are a mess

You have two options:

1. Head to the banking tab and select the account you'd like to remove.

2. Click the edit button, and go to "Edit account info."

3. Check the box next to "Disconnect this account on save."

4. Save and Close.

Alternatively, you may follow these steps:

1. Go to Accounting --> Chart of Accounts.

2. On the right side of the line for the account in question, click the down arrow next to "View register."

3. Check "Make inactive."

4. Click Yes.

Glad to have you here in the Community, @kindellandscapin.

You can go to the Chart of Accounts and delete your mistakenly connected personal bank account from there. Let me guide you through the steps.

  1. In your QuickBooks Online, click Accounting from the left menu and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the bank account you connected from the list.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow under the Action column.
  4. Select Make inactive, then click Yes to confirm.

However, if this is connected to online banking, you can disconnect it from the Banking page. Here's how:

  1. Click Banking from the left menu.
  2. Choose the mistakenly connected bank account.
  3. Select the pencil icon to edit, then click Edit account info.
  4. Click the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  5. Hit Save and close.

Here's an article you can read for more details: Disconnect or delete an account connected to online banking.

As always, feel free to visit our QuickBooks Community help website if you need tips and related articles in the future.

Please let me know if you need clarification about this, or there's anything else I can do for you. I'll be standing by for your response. Have a great day and be safe.

How do I delete a bank account? Accidentally attached my personal account to QuickBooks now my budgets are a mess

This is all well & good but the bank account is showing up in the Balance Sheet at year end. And it just has the word "deleted" next to it. Do the transactions themselves have to be deleted one by one?

Thanks!

Thank you for joining the thread, @gulfsidebooks.I'd be happy to assist you with this.

In QuickBooks Online once you deleted an account the transactions will still remain. So I agree with you, when you want to remove those transactions you have to clear it manually.

Please keep in mind that deleting a transaction is irreversible.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu and select banking.
  2. Select Go to register link.
  3. Locate the transactions you'll want to delete and double click.
  4. Click Delete.
  5. Then select Yes.
