Do you know which year's version of QB Desktop your accountant was using to create the backup file? You may need to install the trial version of QB Desktop on your machine to export data to QBO or purchase a 3rd party conversion service.
Hello there, hairspringmaker.
I can assist in importing your previous QBB file to QuickBooks Online.
You can open your backup file to the supported version of QuickBooks Desktop and then migrate it to QBO. Please note that this is applicable if your QBO account is less than 60 days old. For the detailed process, refer to this article: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
If you don't have access to QuickBooks Desktop or it's outdated, you can use an online tool to upload your QBB file. In that manner, you can transfer this information to your QBO company file.
To get started, access the tool from this link: QuickBooks Pro/Premier. Then, select Get Started and sign in with your Intuit Account. Afterward, upload your file by following the steps below:
Furthermore, check this link to understand how features and data were transferred to QBO. This explains how your books were moved: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
If you have more queries about transferring your data to QBO, kindly post them below. I’m always around to help.
So, the file imported, but I don't see the functionality that QB Desktop has. Specifically, I don't see a way to create Sales Orders (I renamed mine Shop Orders). The process goes from Estimates directly to Invoices. I am a manufacturer, and I selected that option when signing up for QB online. there has to be a way to do this, or else why work so hard to discourage the desktop version, which does have that functionality?
You will need a manufacturing app or an inventory management app with the assembly feature to integrate with QBO. Otherwise, switch back to QB Desktop Premier or Enterprise.
Upon reading your post, I know the benefit of the sales order feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to your business. Let me share insights about this.
Currently, the sales order feature is not available in QBO. However, there are other ways to work around it. You may create an estimate and turn it into an invoice. But, if this process doesn't meet your business standards, there are third-party apps that can provide a more suitable solution. As suggested by 4Gal, you can look at apps and integrate with QBO to better achieve your goals.

Why in the world would Quickbooks remove Sales Order option??
I have a follow up question. I created my QBO account on July 1 of this year, but my accountant only just gave me the QBB file to upload last week. I see that the 60 days has expired, so is there a different way to get this file uploaded?
You should sign up for a new account instead.
