How to enter a deposit in the check register

Hi there, qfd-tds-net.

I can walk you through on how to enter deposit in the register. It's super easy.

To record a deposit, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Bank Register.
  2. Choose Add deposit in the Add check drop-down.
  3. Fill out the information needed and make sure you enter the amount under Deposit column.
  4. Tap Save

Once completed, you’ll be able to record a deposit in the register.

Please be sure to let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you succeed with entering deposit. Any additional information will help to ensure a timely solution. Stay safe!

How to enter a deposit in the check register

I'm doing this, but I think there's a glitch because it was working fine a week or two ago. While I'm entering the details of the deposit, the top account field is already populated with the account name. In my case I'm working in the "checking" register. Then below, it says "received from" and next to that field is another field for "account." There's no other option than to put my account (checking) again. But when I go back to the list of transactions after I've saved the entry, the entry is canceling itself out. Basically, this one deposit entry comes up as a deposit AND a debit too, and I get a balance of zero. The two "account" fields are populating with the same thing so it looks like the deposit is coming in one account and then going out the same account.  But there are no other options than to choose "savings" or another bank account. It's as though the "deposit" button is supposed to say "transfer." Help, please!

How to enter a deposit in the check register

Welcome to this thread, QT2.

Thank you for following the solution shared by my peer and letting us know the result. This will give us a clearer overview of what’s happening to your deposit.

Let’s perform the browser troubleshooting steps to help you enter the deposit smoothly. This is the initial action performed whenever you experience unusual behavior in the online program. I’ll help and guide you through the process.

To start off, sign in to QuickBooks Online (QBO) via private browsing or incognito mode. This browser does not save any browsing history and runs a lot smoother. Follow the steps below to open one:

  • Google Chrome and Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

When the private window opens, go back to your register to add the deposit. If this works, clear the cache and cookies to free up space in your browser. This allows you to perform any process in QBO without any issues. If none of these suggestions work, utilize a supported browser to see if the one you previously used is damaged.

I’m adding some links below for additional resources. These articles provide detailed information about account registers are and what you can do with them. You’ll also learn how to search or modify entries in the chart of accounts.

Keep in touch if you need further assistance adding deposits or performing any tasks in QBO. I’m always ready to lend a helping hand. Have a great weekend.
