Quick book is already on my desk top and I just want to put it to my laptop to use always
hi @Navi ,
How many user license do you have?
Where and how do I get the server app? Is this on both desktop and laptop?

You must have the server app installed, then enable multi user mode. Log off of one computer and access the shared file from the second. If you plan on using your laptop when away from the office install the server app on your laptop.
where is this? How do I change
Thanks for joining this thread, roscelliroofing.
I would suggest reaching out to your IT to guide you further on how to set up the server in your personal computer and laptop. Below are the link where we can get the detailed steps and instruction how to do it:
Please give me an update on how things go on your end. I would like to keep an eye on this and make sure that you are all set. Take care!
The desktop is the main server but I had them load it on my laptop for when we travel. (QB had a special on a 2 user program in May)
Both laptop and desktop will be used during the month, but not at the same time. I can not see anything
done on the desktop while signed into my laptop and vice versa. I don't think they finished downloading some part of the interface
any thoughts?
Hello @lostasgoose,
Welcome to the Community. I'm here to share some information about installing QuickBooks on an additional computer.
The way you can use the program will depend on your subscription. If you have a single-user license, it allows a specific person to access QuickBooks from up to two different computers.
However, please note that your data will not automatically sync on both devices or locations. Since you and the other user won't use QuickBooks simultaneously, I can recommend a workaround.
You can create a backup of your company file and restore it to the other PC using your USB. You can perform the backup and restore process to share data back and forth for both devices.
Here's how to create a backup copy:
To restore the file:
If you want to use both PCs concurrently, you'll need a secondary license to enable Multi-user mode. This feature ensures all users can access the file at the same instance.
I've also attached an article you can use to know more about how to set folder permissions when setting up a multi-user network in QuickBooks Desktop: Set up and install a multi-user network for QuickBooks Desktop.
Drop me a comment below if you need more details about sharing the data between two QuickBooks. I'll be happy to help you some more.
