Hello, kingscabins2.

I can definitely assist you with that task. Since we don't have a direct way to import your data from QBO to Turbo tax. You'll need to export your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop first before importing it into Turbo Tax.

If you don't have your own QuickBooks Desktop account yet, you can download the free trial of QBDT.

Once you're finished downloading the product, you'll need to export the data to QBDT. From there, you can start moving your QBDT tax information to TurboTax, Here are the steps to follow to export data in QBDT:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. From the Gear icon, select Export Data" under Tools.
  3. Choose the data you want to export, such as All Dates or a specific date range.
  4. Select the file format you want to use, such as Excel or CSV.
  5. Click Export.
  6. Open QuickBooks Desktop and go to the File menu.
  7. Select Utilities and then Import to import the data you exported from QuickBooks Online.
  8. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the import process.

Once you have imported your QuickBooks Online data into QuickBooks Desktop, you can import it into Turbo Tax. For more detailed steps on importing QuickBooks data to TurboTax, refer to this article: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?

Additionally, with regard to the cost, we have various products and features for different products. You can refer to this article for more information: QuickBooks Desktop Plans & Pricing. It provides a detailed breakdown of our pricing plans and what each plan includes. This should help you decide when to choose the right product for your needs.

Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with. Have a great day!

But wait, you're canceling the desktop version. How are we going to do it once it is gone?

@numbersmakemeinsane

I'm sure they'll keep supporting QB Desktop until they can migrate data directly from QBO. They released QBD 2024 last month..

Then why did they force us to migrate to QBO this year???  I was very happy with QBDT for years, and the migration was a disaster.  Now to do my taxes I have to migrate the data BACK to QBDT then import to TT?  What are the chances this data all imports correctly back to QBDT?  Probably zero.

Intuit this is unacceptable.  Get it together.  Two questions:

1) Can I still use QBDT and can I go back to it and dump this QBO?  Does the new QBDT include payroll?  If so, WHY WHY WHY did you force me to migrate earlier this year?

2) Why is there is no direct import to TT from QBO?  And when will it be available?

Ok that was more than two questions.  But please don't just tell me how to export, import, etc.  I got all that.  Please just answer the questions.

I understand the challenges you've faced with migration, @ASTexas.

Let me make it up to you by answering your questions about going back to QBDT and importing data to TurboTax from QBO.

First, you can still use QBDT, and the new version does include payroll. You can check out this link to view the different plans and pricing: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/payroll/desktop/. Additionally, users were encouraged to move to QBO for greater flexibility and collaboration. Because it allows you to access your data anytime and anywhere, it allows you to stay on top of your finances with ease.

Additionally, the option to import your data from QBO to TurboTax directly is currently unavailable. While I can't give a specific time frame for when it will be ready, I recommend following the workaround of migrating your data to QBDT, and then to TurboTax as of the moment.

For future use, here's an article on filing your taxes with QuickBooks: Pay and file payroll taxes and forms electronically in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

If you have any other concerns about migrating your data and QuickBooks Payroll, please feel free to leave a reply. I'll be around to address them. Keep safe.

You can still purchase QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus/Premier Plus + QB Desktop Payroll.

How many employees do you need to manage their payroll? If you have reached a certain number of employees, you should consider using QB Desktop Enterprise Gold.

Next you just need to convert the data back from QBO from the date you first used it. You will access your old QB Desktop files as an archive.

2) Why is there is no direct import to TT from QBO? And when will it be available?

Maybe their engineers are still having difficulty developing a reliable exporter. Otherwise, they have discontinued QB Desktop completely.

We weren't "encouraged" to move to QBO, we were told that QBDT would no longer be supported after May 2023 and we had no choice but to migrate to QBO.  What changed?

I have been an Intuit customer for many years with Quicken, QB, and TT.  Now I am very disillusioned.  Can I have someone in management contact me about this please?

Half right. If you're using QB Desktop 2020, they would support you until May 2023. But you could still buy QB Desktop 2023 last year or QB Desktop 2024 at this time..

Hey there, @ASTexas

Thanks for reaching back out and expressing your concern.

Every year there is a discontinuation that occurs on May 31st. The information you received should have also noted that the 2020 QBDT will be discontinued on May 31st of 2023, not QuickBooks Desktop product as a whole. As long as you had 2021, 2022, or 2023 you would be in the clear until May 31st of 2024.
