Create a rule then apply

Automatically confirm transactions this rule applies to : On

It will bypass the find match option.

Is there a way to stop auto match on bank feed accounts to avoid having to click "not a match" multiple times to match payments to the deposits??

Hi,

I just wanted to share that I found the solution to this problem.

1.  Click on Merchant Service Deposits

2.  Click on Deposit Settings on bottom left

3.  On bottom left, there is an option under "Other controls" that says "Auto match & record is turned on"

4.  Click this button to turn it off and then click "Save settings."

Hello there, JJB11.

Thank you for choosing QuickBooks. I can help you follow you the instruction shared above.

Once you have a QuickBooks Payments account, you can manage it in the Merchant Service Center. You'll only need to sign in at this link: Sign in to the Merchant Service Center. Then, follow the same steps above, or you can go through with these steps:

  1. Click on Deposit Settings.
  2. Under Other controls, select Auto match & record is turned on. This will turn off the feature.
  3. Once done, click Save Settings.

Also, you may want to check some topics about completing or doing other tasks in QBDT. One more thing that you can check is about accessing and managing your QuickBooks Payments account.

Please let me know if you have other questions. You can always post your concerns here. Take care and stay safe.

Thank you for the quick reply.  I was able to log in but I do not have deposit settings, Do you have to have a certain type of Account to have that as an option?

Hey there, @JJB11

Thanks for following the thread. I'm happy to lend you a hand with your deposits.

You can change how QuickBooks records payments on your chart of accounts right from QuickBooks without going into the Merchant Service Center outside of the program. Let me show you how below.

  1. Go to the Banking menu and choose Record Merchant Service Deposits.
  2. Click on Change your deposit settings.
  3. Pick the account QuickBook deposits payments into at your bank from the Bank for deposits dropdown. Tap on the account you track fees with from the Fees account dropdown. Select the account those fees are charged to from the Fees Bank for fees withdrawal dropdown.
  4. When you're done, select Save Settings.

I've included some articles below that you may find handy:

Please let me know if you have additional questions or concerns about this process. I'll be here every step of the way. You can reach out to the Community at any time. Take care and have a wonderful day ahead!

Is there a way to stop auto match on bank feed accounts to avoid having to click "not a match" multiple times to match payments to the deposits??

DEAR LORD HELP US!

This is not an issue of which bank to direct our deposits to.

It is an issue of HOW QuickBooks is Auto Classifying these deposits once they are downloaded.

(not even getting into the new System recorded bs y'all just started).

THIS IS THE FIX WE NEED:

ADD THE OPTION TO "TURN OFF AUTO APPLY" for DEPOSITS that are downloaded from our Banks.

We DO NOT want TO HAVE A DEPOSIT AUTO-APPLIED TO ANY CATEGORY OR CUSTOMER!

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CHOOSE WHICH CUSTOMER I APPLY A PAYMENT TO.

THAT REALLY IS THE WHOLE REASON FOR ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE, NO?

I (AND THE OTHER HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ON THIS THREAD)

DON'T WANT YOU TO AUTO-APPLY ANYTHING TO A CERTAIN CUSTOMER.

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CHOSE MY CUSTOMER TO APPLY THE DEPOSIT TO!

(AND ANOTHER GLITCH IS THAT IF I CHANGE THE CUSTOMER IT IS AUTO-APPLIED TO, YOU THEN CHANGE ALL OF THE OTHER DEPOSITS TO THAT CUSTOMER.)

IF I COULD TURN OFF AUTO APPLY IN QB ONLINE, I WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

JUST ADD THE OPTION FOR AUTO-APPLY TO BE "TURNED OFF."

PLEASE. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS ACCOUNTING, PLEASE TURN OFF THE AUTO APPLY OPTION IN QB ONLINE.

WE ARE SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME CHANGING ALL OF THESE DEPOSITS AND WILL HAVE TO LEAVE QB. IT SEEMS YOU PROBABLY DONT CARE THAT YOU LOSE CUSTOMER, BUT IT WOULD BE SO MUCH SIMPLER IF YOU JUST ADDED THIS OPTION TO TURN-OFF AUTO APPLY!

THERE IS NOT A WORK AROUND.

ITS VERY SIMPLY...

JUST ADD THE OPTION TO "TURN OFF AUTO APPLY" TO DEPOSITS THAT ARE DOWNLOADED.

AGAIN, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ADD THE OPTION

TO "TURN OFF AUTO APPLY" FOR DEPOSITS THAT ARE DOWNLOADED FROM A BANK AND INTO QUICKBOOKS ONLINE.

TIP:

YOU CAN ADD THE OPTION TO "TURN OFF AUTO APPLY FOR DOWNLOADED DEPOSITS" TO

ACCOUNT SETTINGS>ADVANCED>AUTOMATION

I HOPE  I HAVE HELPED YOU UNDERSTAND THAT WE WANT THE AUTO-APPLY FEATURE AVAILABLE AS AN OPTION. WE DO NOT WANT THE OPTION.

THANK YOU, IN ADVANCE.

YOUR ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS DONT CHANGE HOW THE DEPOSITS ARE HANDLED ONCE THEY ARE DOWNLOADED.

YOUR INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE ARE FOR HOW TO CHANGE "WHERE THE DEPOSITS GO."

TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

"WHERE" AND "HOW" ARE DIFFERENT.

Yes

When I download my bank transactions in the bank feeds, many of the transactions are marked "Auto" and color coded blue. I understand QB thinks it's a match, but it's not so I have to click the "Not A Match" option first for EACH transaction. Sometimes it auto matches it to another, later transaction, so I have to click not a match multiple times. Then I can manually match payments to the deposit.

I need to turn off the auto match because it thinks these payments are already in the register, but I need to match them manually to the bank feed in order to show them as deposited into the right account.

Hey there, @agatagog.

Thanks for taking the time to share your concerns.

At this time, there isn't a way to turn off the auto match feature. We understand how beneficial this would be for you and your business. I went ahead and sent this suggestion to our Product Development Team. This way, it can be considered in a future update.

I also wanted to mention to check your bank rules to ensure there isn't any active rules. You can do this by clicking on the Banking menu then selecting Bank Rules. However, please keep in mind that QuickBooks will still try finding matches.

You can follow all of our latest happenings and updates by using our Blog Site

Please, resend this suggestion for me. Should I keep replying to this thread to keep pushing the ability to turn off auto match to the top of Intuit’s pipeline of work? For those of us taking over long-neglected quickbooks accounts, this presents as a bug. Not a feature. I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but the fact that the 800-lb gorilla of the industry can’t get this done is baffling.

WOOOOOOOOOW! Its now 2022 and this problem still isnt fixed!!!! I had to spend over 1 billable hr "not matching" 6 transactions. I cant even IMAGING these people who had hundreds. How is this even possible?? QB keeps charging more every year and forcing us to upgrade yet they dont care about fixing anything. So gross. Im seriously looking into a new program for my bookkeeping clients now. UNACCEPTABLE!

NOW imagine that this is what I deal with for multiple clients all the time as the "clean up girl". I just went through and had to do this with over 400 items in the bank feed! We cant even do a mass "update" in the bank feed because the "match" prevents it. At my witts end!

Same issue, it's soooooo frustrating and it's irritating our customers. Here's what happens to me.

1. I receive a client check for Jan invoice on Feb 5

2. I make Jan invoice paid and add check number

3. I deposit the check

4. Quickbooks downloads the deposit and matches it to the Feb invoice and marks it paid.

Now if have two invoices marked paid by the same check creating an accounting nightmare and confusing our customers and now I have to go dig through deposits and figure out what's going on. For software that has been doing accounting for years thus is utterly redicuous.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community, Ahrens. I'll be sharing details on how the Auto-matched works in QuickBooks. Beforehand, please know that QuickBooks is constantly changing and evolving based largely on the requests of users.  I'll ensure you can send feedback so our product developers can consider adding the feature in the next updates.

QuickBooks will automatically match your transactions once it detects entries with similar amounts and details to your bank statements. That being said, turning off the auto-match feature is currently unavailable. I encourage you to submit feedback and these requests and suggestions are forwarded to the Product Development Team for consideration in the future. To do that, you'll have to log in to your QuickBooks Desktop account and go to the Help icon and click Send Feedback Online.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see steps on how you can reconcile your accounts so they match your bank and credit card statements: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if there's anything else you need help with managing your transactions. Know that I'm always here to help you anytime. Take care and keep safe!

Is there a way to stop auto match on bank feed accounts to avoid having to click "not a match" multiple times to match payments to the deposits??

Today I logged in and got a popup screen saying QBO will now "auto match" everything unless I turn the feature off under "table settings".  Needless to say I can't find "table settings" and 45 minutes chatting with a "support" rep got nowhere but the usual Intuit runaround.   It's so great to have my time wasted... Does anyone know what this is and how to avoid it?  I do  not want my transactions "auto matched".

It's your worst nightmare. There is no way to turn it off, QB doesn't care (as evidenced by this long-standing thread) and it corrupts your books on a massive level if you are not immaculately careful to undo every "auto match" which is wrong 99% of the time.  I had to file for an extension this year it was so bad. Essentially, it greatly amplifies the time it should take to do your accounting and QB cannot even entertain us with an option to turn it off. I am actively searching for an alternative software package for exclusively this reason, and the time suck  (And headaches) it creates.

Yes, it's really bad and screwing up our books and ticking off our clients. We're looking to switch to Xero, Sage or Zoho Books. Does anyone have experience with any of them?

Hate to break it to you, but this will never be fixed.

No matter how many replies to this post, no matter how many suggestions through Help.

I have been complaining and reporting this issue for years before this post started.

The best you are going to get is the scripted replies from robots that monitor this forum. (They have to be robot replies because an actual human would recognize that their suggested solutions do not solve the problem.)

They will NOT give an option to turn off auto-matching, for the same reason they will not fix it to match against the check number field instead of just the amount.

The only logical conclusion is that Intuit has a reason for it to work this way. Most likely that it would cost more for programmers to fix than it costs to program bots or pay someone to copy/paste irrelevant solutions and make apologies.

I had hoped the “new” Bank Feeds would fix this, but as with prior Bank Feed improvements, it’s one step forward and two leaps backwards.

It didn’t fix existing issues. It ignores existing rules created over years of use with no way to even print the old rules to help in recreating them. Plus the idiotic use of Shift+L and Shift+R (just try to Add More Details and enter a Customer or Vendor with a capital “L” or “R” and see what happens…).

Intuit has no incentive to fix issues that don’t affect core functionality. They have had over 80% market share for as long as I can remember. None of the other options have even a tenth of that.

Until that changes, they couldn’t care less about fixing an “inconvenience” that cost us time and costs them nothing.

This is nonsense QBO!  This question was originally asked in 2019!  Are you not listening to your customers? YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO MAKE THESE DECISIONS AUTOMATICALLY!

As an Accountant user, I have seen disasters created by the auto rule feature and then you add a rule to supercede all rules with this automatch bank deposits "FEATURE".  One ring to rule them all I guess... to borrow from Tolkien.

STOP NUDGING YOUR CUSTOMERS!  They are telling you it's annoying and yet you ignore their pleas and soon they will be going elsewhere.
