Making Bank of America Business Corp and Card work together automatically?

Hello!

In all of the posts so far, I have not seen an answer to solve the problem of having to do some sort of manual work in order for the QuickBooks Online balance to match Bank of America Corporate Business Credit Card accounts. There's been methods discussed as to how to make one primary and the card a sub-account but then you can't sync both of them. And so I have it set up so that they are separate accounts and every month I write a journal entry to mark the payment.

So, by now, in 2021, there should be some resolution. But is the answer is that there's no true AUTOMATIC resolution? There's still some manual labor required regardless of workaround?

Thanks!

Patrick

Making Bank of America Business Corp and Card work together automatically?

Hi there, @patrick56.

You can download the transactions from your bank automatically to your sub-accounts. Allow me to share some details about connecting your account to QuickBooks.

If the transactions download to one account, connect only the parent account. If the transactions download to the individual accounts, you only connect the subaccounts. Some banks may show the overall bank balance at each subaccount level. This is because the bank provides us with a static balance of the entire account, not the balance of each subaccount. If this is the case, I'd recommend contacting your financial institution and check how the bank feed was set up.

If you're getting some duplicate transactions, you can exclude and delete them on the Banking page.

Also, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Care Team if you're still getting the same issue even after confirming the setup with your bank. They have special tools to look further if there are existing bank connection issues and help you get to the bottom of this.

I've added an article you can use on your future tasks about assessing your business financials: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online. This also contains sub-accounts on how to split transactions between multiple accounts.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. Please don't hesitate to let me know in the comment section. Take care.

Making Bank of America Business Corp and Card work together automatically?

Thanks. I've confirmed with my bank that the way all small business corporate credit card accounts are set up with Bank of America is that there's at least two tiers that serve two different functions:

1) CORP Account with it's own number

2) Credit card

This split into two is not a feature BOA is doing away with.

Please check this thread, as it appears like I feared that there are only workarounds and no real solution to make it completely automatic:

Making Bank of America Business Corp and Card work together automatically?

It looks like many have encountered this same issue at Bank of America (and maybe others) where a Parent Account has Payments and Fees and Child Accounts have Charges.  I am fairly new to QuickBooks Online.  So, please let me know if this is not a good idea for some reason.

I created a new "BofA Umbrella" credit card account not linked to any true account.  Then, I made the Parent Corporate Account and all of the Child Accounts as Sub-Accounts of the BofA Umbrella account.  This way all of the true accounts can remain linked to Bank of America.  I only reconcile the BofA Umbrella account which contains both Charges and Payments from the Sub-Accounts.  No Journal Entries necessary.

Looking for advice from all you experts.

Thanks for joining in this thread, @Mark_Texas. In QuickBooks, you'd only need to connect the parent account if the transactions are downloaded to one account as shared by my peer @MarsStephanieL above.

However, you need to connect the sub-accounts if it's downloaded separately. You can check out these articles for more insights:

Then, your credit card transactions will be listed under the For Review tab. From there, you'll want to edit, assign, and categorize the transactions. Use this article to learn more about this process: Categorizing Bank Transactions

Keep us posted here if you have additional questions about managing your connected bank accounts. We're always here to help in any way we can.

Same problem here: one BofA PARENT corp card account, and two 'child' accounts (for two employees).  What bugs me is reconciling ONLY the parent account - that works, but I have no idea if the transactions in the child accounts are correct (I have had missing transactions - and therefore missing expenses - in the past).  Further, it's two manual transactions each month to get the children and parent correct.  This is nuts.
