Missing transactions from bank feed - can I add to the register manually?

Using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2018

I am missing transactions from the downloaded bank feed.  As a double check I also downloaded the CVS file to my desktop for the same account and everything is there in that file.  Why is this happening?  Can I just load the missing transactions into the register manually?

Missing transactions from bank feed - can I add to the register manually?

Hi there, @Qwerty1454.

I'll share some information about missing transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Yes, you can manually enter the missing data directly into the register. The possible reason of the missing transaction is this following:

  • QuickBooks is not in the latest release.
  • There's a problem with the connection between your bank and QuickBooks.

Before providing the troubleshooting, may I know the specific bank name you currently using? That way, I can double-check our reports and provide you with the exact resolutions.

Let's update the bank first to refresh the connection between your bank and QuickBooks. So the current data will flow in the bank feeds.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds.
  3. Click the Bank Feeds Center.
  4. Choose your account and click the Refresh icon a couple of times.

If the issue persists, I'd recommend entering the data manually so you can categorize and reconcile your accounts whenever you’re ready.

I've also added articles about handling imported transactions, accounts, and other relevant matters.

Let me know in the comment section if you have follow-up questions. I'm happy to provide answers.

Missing transactions from bank feed - can I add to the register manually?

I downloaded the qbo report to the desktop from my CU and loaded/imported from there.
As mentioned, that qbo file is missing almost 40 transactions. They DO show in the CVS file I downloaded from the bank to double check. Also it's not similar transactions. Missing from the bank feed qbo file are deposits, transfers, debit card transactions. Seems so random.

Missing transactions from bank feed - can I add to the register manually?

Good morning, @Qwerty1454

Thanks for reaching back out to the Community. It's my priority that you're able to see these missing transactions in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account. Allow me to provide you with some information about this problem.

Since your QuickBooks is up-to-date and the connection between our product and your bank is good, then I recommend contacting our Customer Support Team. They can use a screen share to walk you through some additional steps to help get this problem fixed as soon as possible. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose the QuickBooks Desktop Help option.
  3. Click the Contact Us hyperlink.
  4. Type in your question and hit Let's Talk or Continue
  5. Scroll down and select to Get a callback

That's all there is to it. In addition, here's an article that can give some other details about importing and exporting data into your QBDT account.

Let me know how it goes. I want to make sure all of your concerns are addressed. I'm only a post away if you need me. The Community is always here to have your back. Have a great day!

Missing transactions from bank feed - can I add to the register manually?

Hi Qwerty1454,

Did you get an answer to your issue? I've not had much luck with the QB Help "We'll call you back" option. Did they do anything that actually solved the download problem, or are you just entering the transactions manually now?

Same issue. Downloaded transactions and I'm missing 3 1/2 months on three accounts. Did you find an fix to this problem. I'm also working with my bank because I can't get the QBO to download correctly either. Calling support was unhelpful. I'm not happy about entering the transactions myself when that's really the benefit of having Quickbooks.....

Missing transactions from bank feed - can I add to the register manually?

Thanks for following this thread, @Frozenfun

As an additional insight, some banks let you download only the last 90 days of transactions when you first connect it to QuickBooks.

If this is your first time, you'll need to upload bank transactions manually. I know this isn't ideal for you, but this is the only option to bring in all your previous 3 1/2 months of transactions.

If your bank is already connected and the transactions are not updating, you can perform a manual download by following these steps:

  1. Click the Banking menu.
  2. Go to the Banking tab.
  3. Select Update.

It will now trigger the connected banks to download all of the transactions. You'll notice in each account tile that the balance will increase.

For more information, check out this article: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online. It also includes links with a fix to specific download errors in case you'll encounter one in the future.

Feel free to visit and ask again if you have further banking concerns. I'll be here to assist.

Thanks for your quick response, however, I'm using Pro Plus 21 desktop and I don't see the Banking Update? I have already contacting my bank about downloading the QBO file error, so that's not an option either.

Oh I know what you are referring to now. The update is to download the transactions. Thanks for making me look stupid. I can download transactions but the 90 days is not the case, I'm only downloading around 45 days of transactions and the QBO download will not open, there's an error message. I'm really frustrated.

I know that this hasn't been easy for you, Frozenfun.

The information shared by my colleague above is for QuickBooks Online. When you connect your bank account to QuickBooks Desktop, you'll be able to download transactions up to a certain date so you don't have to record them manually.

Take note that your bank controls what and how information is received by QuickBooks. Some financial institutions let you set a specific date range for downloads of transactions. If your bank doesn't support this feature, you'll automatically get the maximum number of transactions available the first time you download. This may be 30 to 90 days or more depending on your bank.

If you need to get the older the transactions, you'll have to go to your bank's website and look for their instructions to download your transactions as a Web Connect (.qbo) file. Then, import them into the program.

Furthermore, runtime errors usually occur if the QBO file provided by your bank contains invalid information or formatting. When this happens, QuickBooks Desktop won't be able to properly verify and read the data.

To isolate the issue, please make sure that you're using the latest release of your QuickBooks product. This way, you're always updated with all our security patches and bug fixes. Once done, create a backup copy of your company file and then follow the troubleshooting procedures provided in this article: Fix Web Connect import errors.

I'm also adding this reference to learn how to review and categorize your downloaded online banking transactions: Add and match Bank Feed transactions.

Keep me posted if you need more help in handling your bank transactions. The Community always has your back.

Missing transactions from bank feed - can I add to the register manually?

This is driving me nuts. I buy Quickbooks so I don't have to manually input bank transactions, my band feeds are set up and now when I start to work on October 2022, most of October  is missing. I have followed the advice on line to no avail and then they say manually input the data. Why am I paying for a service which is not working. I have refreshed the accounts ...... what should I do now.

I see how challenging on your end to automatically download your bank transactions, @Phone number for Self Employed. I'll help you fix this.

Before anything else, I'd like to know what product you're utilizing.

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and connect your bank account to it, you'll be able to download transactions up to a certain date so you'll never record them manually.

If transactions don't pull up, there might be an issue with your bank institutions. Take note that your bank controls the info received by QuickBooks.

To get your October transactions, log in to your bank's website and download them as a Web Connect (.qbo) file. Then, import them into the program.

Just ensure that you're using the latest release of your QuickBooks product to be updated with all the security patches. After that, make a backup copy of your company file.

Once done, follow the troubleshooting procedures provided in this article: Fix Web Connect import errors.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting QBDT support to help you find a fix.

On the other hand, if you're using QuickBooks Self-Employed, let's manually update so your link refreshes its connection with QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Connect Bank under Transactions.
  3. Click Refresh all.

Once you see that transactions are downloading, let's manually import your October transactions in QBSE. Check out this article: Manually import transactions into QuickBooks Self-Employed.

For future help, if you want to match your bank transactions in QBDT, read this article: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.
