QB wants me to confirm all my tranactions from prior years that are already entered/reconciled. Do I exclude them all or do I have to confirm them all and re-reconcile?

I'll be sharing some insights about prior transactions that you already reconciled in QuickBooks Online, @StephenSB.

You won't have to confirm these transactions since you reconciled these entries already in QuickBooks. I suggest excluding these entries to avoid duplicate income and expense in your Profit and Loss and incorrect balances.

To remove all the prior transactions from the Banking page, you can check the box beside the Date header in the For Review tab. You may also deselect some new entries that aren't recorded yet in the bank register. Then hit the Exclude button.

Just in case you want to undo a reconciled transaction in the bank register, you can reference this article for the detailed steps: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have other banking concerns or inquiries about managing transactions in QBO. I'll gladly help. Take care, and wishing you continued success.

Will this prevent them from reappearing?  I had gone through the register and deleted the duplicates after realising QBO had reimported the data and then re-reconciled.  Now, I'm having to do that again.

I appreciate you for getting back to us, stephensbedford-.

Yes, deleted transactions will be removed on the banking lists. Prior importing, ensure that the same transactions were also deleted on the file.

Afterwards, you're good to import the transactions and then reconcile them again.

Once reconciled and you're ready to close the books, you can check this reference: Prevent unwanted changes before filing your taxes.

I'm just around if you have concerns in closing the books. Keep safe!

What y'all are telling me doesn't make sense, or I'm dense.  I am not an accountant or bookkeeper.

Let me back up a little.  I had a desktop version of QB.  We moved to the online version.  Previous years that had already been entered and reconciled (4 different bank accounts) were screwed up when we went online and imported/synched the accounts.  I went back and manually deleted the duplicates that said manually added from the bank feeds, as shown below.  They are not in the transaction tab/section. And, they keep reappearing as shown below.

Very frustrating.  I'm ready to back to a paper register.

I appreciate your prompt reply, StephenSB.

Let me help you get this sorted out.

Deleted transactions won't be downloaded again unless you've updated your bank or manually imported them.

Since these duplicate transactions are no longer showing up in the For Review tab, we can do some troubleshooting steps.

Unusual behaviors like this might be caused by a corrupted file cache stored in your browser. To verify any browser-related issues, let's open your QuickBooks Online account on a private browser or incognito. This mode will not save your browsing history.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

Go back to the register page and check if the duplicate transactions are showing up. If not, then open your regular browser again and clear its cache. Clearing cache fixes certain problems, like loading or formatting issues on sites.

Once finished, close and re-open your browser to refresh the settings. Alternatively, try using a different supported browser

I'm also sharing this article to help you fix the previous reconciliation once the duplicate transactions are fixed: Fix issues for accounts you've reconciled in the past in QuickBooks Online

Please keep me posted on how it goes from your end. I'd like to make sure this is resolved for you. Stay safe.
