All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, acarlton.

Have you tried the following troubleshooting below?

  1. Log in to QuickBooks Online using a private browser.
  2. Clear the browser's cache and cookies.
  3. Log in to QuickBooks Online using other supported browsers.

If so, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Team and report that previous reconciliations suddenly disappear in QuickBooks. That way, our Product Team can check about how to retrieve those missing reconciled accounts.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?), then Contact Us.
  3. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

For now, you may want to reconcile again the bank account when needed. Check out this guide: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Let me know how the contact goes by commenting below or post again if you have other QuickBooks concerns.

All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

Has there been a concrete resolution to this problem?

I am having the exact same issue - working with QB Desktop.  All of my 2022 reconciliations are non-existent.  As if that weren't frustrating enough, QB support doesn't seem to be able to contribute anything of value to this thread - just some scripted answers that clearly haven't addressed the (software) problem/bug.  PLEASE help with a firm resolution!  thanks.

All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

Let's get you to the right support team how can create a case about the missing prior reconciliations, Sylver.

I understand your frustrations and want to make sure you're able to report this issue. Before we proceed, if you have a backup of the company file, let's restore it. The prior reconciliations may retrieve.

If the same issue persists, let's go ahead and report the issue to our Product Team by contacting QuickBooks Desktop Live Support. They'll create a case under your company to investigate the main reason why this is happening.

Here's how to get a call or chat from them.

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then Continue.
  5. Sign in to your Intuit account,  hit Continue, then Continue with my account.
    • If you don't already have an account, make sure to Create a new account.
  6. We'll email you a single use code. Enter your code and click Continue.
    • If you have more than one account, select the account you want to use and then Continue.
  7. Choose to chat with us or Have us call you.

You can also browse this article to know when to get in touch with them: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

Keep me posted if you have additional questions or post a new one for other QuickBooks concerns. The Community forum is always open to help you. May you have a blessed day!

All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

Thanks for acknowledging my post.  Contacting support is fine ... but what I (and most folks reading through this thread) are looking for is some sort of answer / coarse of action.  This thread was started a year ago and still has users looking for help ... I'm sure the QB support team has a technical note that has the information we're all looking for -- Posting that here would be helpful to everyone.  Would you be able to do that?

Update on this issue.

In terms of Quickbooks Desktop (and at least in our situation) it appears as though a software update is to blame for the vanished reconciliations (and some transactions).  Specifically QB-DT 2021 Release R7 introduced the bug and was later fixed with QB-DT 2021 R11, noting that the "fix" does not bring anything back (it just doesn't mess them up).  The only resolution to the reconciliation & missing xtn records is a manual re-do.

Deleting already reconciled records, sporadic back-ups, corrupted/damaged QB file, etc. (all put forward as potential causes by QB team) are absolutely not applicable ... at least in our case, and perhaps the other users on this thread.

Time to get started on manual re-do/rebuild.

All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

I migrated from QBs desktop to QBO earlier in 2022 and although the data migrated over the reconciliations did not.  I called QBs and they said they can't migrate reconciliations and that I would have do re-do them.  That is many years of data!  Is there an easier way?

Same problem using quickbooks online. Looking for a resolution -- anyone find anything yet?

I can see the urgency of getting this resolved, @sustainat.

Have you tried utilizing the Audit Log? If not,  let's do so. This is for us to identify who made changes to your account. Note that only an accountant can undo the reconciliation.

To view the changes made:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Audit Log.
  3. From the Events dropdown, select Reconciliations.
  4. Find a transaction and select View to view the Audit Log.

This will route you to the Audit History that displays all changes made to your transactions, from the most recent to the oldest, including who made each change.

However, if you find out that there were no changes made that might trigger the past reconciliations to be missing, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Support Team. Since Community is a public forum, we're unable to open and perform any troubleshooting processes on your account. By contacting the Support Team, your account will be looked into further as to why this unusual behavior is occurring, and will perform screen-sharing if needed.

Here's how to contact support, in case you need one:

  1. Go to the Help icon and select Contact us in the Search tab.
  2. From the What can we help you with field, enter your question.
  3. Click on Continue.
  4. Choose either Appointment, Callback, or Chat.

You may want to know how to use bank rules to automatically categorize transactions from your bank in the future, kindly refer to this article: Set up bank rules to categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

You can always hit the reply button below if you've got more questions with regard to accessing your past reconciliations in QuickBooks Online. I'll be around to assist you quickly. Take care.

All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

I had a similar issue and think I solved it!!  I had recently added two new "bank accounts" for credits that needed to be applied with various agencies.  I realized it kept defaulting to those new accounts when reconciling, even if I chose the correct account.  I opened my Chart of Accounts (under "Company"-->"Chart of Accounts") and moved my primary account up to the first line and my reconciliations reappeared!  I hope this helps!

All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

Has anyone made headway with this? I'm told by three different reps that because the audit log doesn't show the bank recs, I never did them! Calling me a liar, essentially. I have over 3 years of missing bank recs. My accountant requires the bank rec to be completed for taxes which are done and filed. I cannot fathom the gaslighting happening here.

Was this ever solved? Dealing with the same issue with QBO and three rest tell me I never reconciled because the activity log shows nothing. Activity Log is incorrect.

I too have had this happen to multiple of my QBO accounts.  It is maddening!  It causes an absolute waste of time.  I called QuickBooks and they just sent me this thread to assist.  No help at all.  It's absurd, but I will now have my bookkeeper back up my account every time a reconciliation is done so that we have it and can use it, but none of us should have to do this.

QB, FIX THIS PROBLEM or stop charging us each month for a service that doesn't work.

We are also having this problem. Did Quickbooks fix this issue?

We switched to QB online and I feel like that has something to do with the problem. I do not have time to go back thru all of last year and redo all of our books.

Ugh!!!

All of my prior reconciliations are gone!!

It is November 2024 and this issue is still not resolved. I spent an hour on with a nice lady from QB and went through all the troubleshooting steps. In the end she said her engineering dept. said that any reconciliations would show up on the back end if they were done. So basically the engineers believe that the reconciliations were never done. Since I am 100% sure I have completed them, as are the people in this thread, QB is just saying that it is our fault for never having actually done them, which is not true. Any reference to the reconciliations was also missing from the audit logs.

Further, I am told that unless you have the advanced version of QBO there is no backup available and you would need to pay a third party for that service. I pay hundreds of dollars per month for multiple companies to use QBO and come to find out they don't even have a backup or option to backup locally! Intuit really needs to get some serious competition so customers have other choices for accounting software!

I will save you some time on the phone - the only solution is to rebuild the reconciliations from your statements. Save the hour calling QB and spend it on that tedious task - and hope they don't disappear again.

Thanks for nothing Intuit.
