Buy nowThis issue has existed since mid-2023...it's 2025 now and still happening! What does it take for Quickbooks to actually fix an issue? They have acknowledged that it's an issue enough to open at least 2 "investigations" that they've referenced (INV-91805 & INV-97602), both of which they say have been "solved" but have provided no information on how or what was done. The last response from them at least appearing to try to help was from January last year. Every response they've given since that just seems to be trying to gaslight us into thinking they've fixed the issue or that clearing our cache will fix it if we're still experiencing it. Spoiler Alert...it doesn't help. They may have marked it as solved, but seeing repeated reports of it occurring means they either need to re-open one of them or open a new one. QUICKBOOKS TEAM, PLEASE DO SOMETHING USEFUL!
Also, my comment earlier today was supposed to be a direct response to @MLCBookkeeper's comment near the beginning of page 1 of this thread but it looks like it didn't post properly in line. I guess the app isn't the only thing they're unable to keep working properly.
I have had this thread bookmarked for a year, and whenever the lack of resolution on this issue triggers my frustration to boil over into rage, I come and take a look catch up on our shared grief. I'm now officially joining the conversation to contribute my two cents... the truly maddening aspect for me is that all of my clients are in the U.S. and have this issue in their books, however I do have one client whose QBO subscription is out of Singapore. On the surface, there's no significant difference between the two versions of the platform besides the fact that the account subscription levels are structured and named differently, but a key aspect that has been impossible for me to miss is the fact that those books NEVER ONCE lost this functionality over the last 14 months.
At first I thought I was going crazy and tried to figure out what could be so different about the cache or cookies on that particular Chrome browser profile I use for that client, but eventually, like most in this thread, I realized I was just being gaslighted by support to hide the fact that Intuit programming is simply not interested in fixing this issue for their power users. Just today, the fact that I was able to speed through my month-end close reminders in those Singapore books and experience the profound sense of satisfaction that comes from using a fully functional UI was the thing that dragged me right back to this thread to once again check for any hope whatsoever.
My message to Intuit Support is: YOU DIDN'T BREAK IT IN SINGAPORE, SO MODEL THE FIX ON WHATEVER IS STILL MAKING IT WORK THERE.
PLEASE.
@jasonpowell The first sentence of your comment resonates with me more than you will ever know! That is exactly why I came back to this thread today. My frustration has also boiled over to rage, as it is month end, and I am working through the reminders list of recurring transactions, wondering why I am still dealing with a problem from two years ago.
Very interesting about QBO subscriptions in Singapore! Great insight!
If only Intuit could have that insight...not holding my breath.
Having just migrated to QBO a few months ago, I have to say I wish I didn't. The desktop version worked so much better. After conversion, I found out that I lost all my custom fields, invoice templates that I created do not work now, recurring transactions are a disaster! Also, now I only have Vendors and Customers, not Others for lists like in the desktop version.
I have been going crazy trying to get the recurring transactions to forward to the next month after use, and now I find out that this has been an issue for the last two years and is STILL not fixed by the engineers! I have changed all my recurring transactions to "reminders" because I can't have them automatically processing into the checking account. So now when I use a transaction and go back to skip the date, I don't have that option. WTH!! I am going to start looking for another program. I am just beyond.........
I have also been experiencing this exact same problem for awhile now. I have to use the "edit and create" and then "skip" workaround. And I notice that when I do "create" and then "skip" a reminder and then go back to the recurring transactions list, the previous date is not advanced even though I just created it.
As a software developer myself, I understand that other priorities and new features and stuff can get in the way. But issue trackers exist for a reason, and when you have dozens of people reporting the same problem over multiple years, YOU NEED TO FIX IT! This seems like such a "low-hanging fruit" to fix, why wouldn't Intuit WANT to fix it? Don't they take any pride in their work? Clearly this issue has not been fixed yet despite them claiming that multiple "investigations" have been "resolved". The problem continues, so they are not doing your job correctly. Tech Debt is not a good thing. It can't just be ignored and hope it goes away. You have to make it happen.
@rwp47 Glad to see yet another post on this thread. Maybe someday the engineers will listen. Not only does the previous date not update, the audit list of transactions is incorrect because it looks like the reminder was "skipped" and not created. I have sent many requests through the gear icon feedback selection as QuickBooks always suggested and posted in the community, but it falls on deaf ears. The reminders list worked perfectly until two years ago, when some goofball (to put it nicely) decided to change it.
Trigger: You manually complete a reminder transaction.
Expected Behavior: After saving, QBO should auto-refresh and remove it from the Recurring Transactions list.
Workaround (previously working): Clear the filter → reapply filter → transaction disappears from list.
Current Status: Even this manual refresh no longer removes the used reminder from the list.
Trigger: After using a reminder (e.g., you click “Use”), QBO redirects you back to the list.
Expected Behavior: That reminder should disappear immediately upon return.
Current Behavior: It stays put, misleading the user into thinking it hasn’t been used ye
Put this in point form to clarify the two different issues so they understand that after use they no longer clear also, but I was able to clear them after use by using steps to clear the filter and then add my filter perameters again.
I first reported this issue in 2023. I just spoke with another customer service rep who reported the issue has been Closed as Resolved. Intuit is saying its functioning as designed because the 'Skip" option can be selected to remove the task from the list. We all know this is not true since the original functionality was for the task to drop off the list once the task was completed. Having to click the Skip option for all tasks is time is a nucance and adds more time to Accountant Workflow. This is another example of Intuit Developers not listening to user feedback. I'm at a loss.
@EHS @StewHard @AndrewMA @rwp47 It is very sad to have had this issue for over 2 years. I agree the issue has not been "resolved". If I don't remember to hit skip after entering the reminder, then it is easy to duplicate the transaction. I have daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual Reminders. I have sent many feedbacks through the gear icon to request the issue to be changed back. Maybe if we all continue to bombard the engineers with the request, it might be changed (LOL). Another issue with skipping a Reminder, the audit log is incorrect. It appears all of the Reminders have been skipped, rather than input. This is a big issue for me in record keeping.
I feel like I must be missing something. My coworker has been dealing with this issue for nearly two years. Now, she is out for a while and I am trying to handle the recurring invoicing and I see it is still a problem. I also see talk about a work around by skipping the transaction after using it. But, when I go to my reminders list of invoices, my only options for each transaction seem to be Use, Duplicate, or Delete. Am I missing something? It would seem that whatever they did to created this mess, they could just undo and go back to the functionality we had before. I noticed they had no issue increasing the price of the subscription even though I haven't seen any calls to fix that.
Are you looking at the "Recurring Transactions" or the "Reminder List"?
Under "Recurring Transactions", I have these options:
- Edit
- Use
- Duplicate
- Pause
- Skip Next Date
- Delete
Under "Reminder List", I have these options:
- Edit and Create
- Create
- Skip
@johnmcpa @EHS You are spot on with the 2 years and the suggestion for QBO to revert to the previous version where the recurring transactions worked appropriately. When I click on the down arrow next to edit and create, the options are create and skip. In any event, why don't the engineers listen to all of the outcry regarding this issue. I have sent many feedbacks through the gear icon and posted in the community, but no one listens. Let's all keep voicing our request, and maybe sometime during my lifetime, the issue will be resolved.
The Skip option for recurring transactions is only available for Scheduled templates, johnmcpa.
For Reminder transactions, you can select Use, Duplicate, or Delete from the dropdown menu in the Action column. For Unscheduled transactions, the options are Use, Edit, Duplicate, and Delete.
If you're dealing with a Scheduled type, the available options are:
If you need to modify a recurring template, please refer to this article for guidance: Edit a recurring template.
Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
So, if I have monthly and weekly invoices for rental of equipment and I have created invoice templates that include the start and end of the rental period being invoiced, how do I set these up so they are included on a list; allowing me to update the rental period before I send it out? It seems like scheduled templates will just create the invoices without me updating them. Skip does appear on some of my reminders, but not all of them. It seems like once I have used the template to generate an invoice, the skip option is no longer available, but the next date still does not update.
The only recurring transactions are reminder transactions. If I go to recurring transactions, I have a drop down with two options: Reminder List or Run Report. Some of the templates listed have three possible actions: Use, Duplicate, Delete. Others have the additional options of Pause and Skip Next Date. All are reminder transactions. I don't know why the program seems to be treating things differently. It does seem that anything that has a "Next Date" in the future has the additional options and those are the only items with the Skip option. As long as I am entering those transactions in advance, I can skip after I use the template. That leaves me with the things that have past dates. For example, I have a templated that is showing "Next Date" of 6/19/25. I have already created the 6/19/28 invoice, but the date hasn't updated and I can't skip it because 6/19/25 has already passed.
I discovered part of my issue, I didn't realize that bringing up the recurring transactions list and seeing Reminder List on the drop down meant that I would still have to click on that drop down in order to actually see my recurring transactions. Now, I can create or skip. Still don't understand why the list isn't updating on its own, but I'll deal with this for now. Thanks for your help everyone!
@johnmcpa @StewHard @MirriamM @rwp47 @EHS @I have been posting on this issue for almost two years. I have spent hours on the phone with QBO support, and I have sent many feedback requests through the gear icon with no correction to the issue. Two years ago when the Reminders List worked correctly, when a reminder was used Edited and Created, the previous date in the Recurring Transaction list would update appropriately, and the Reminder would drop off of the Reminders List. Currently, you have to skip the reminder after it has been edited and created. (Also, if you forget to skip the Reminder, it is easy to enter it a second time.) Consequently, the previous date does not update, nor is the audit list of your transactions correct because it looks like you have skipped all of the reminders! I still don't understand how the knowledgeable engineers of QBO have determined the change to the Reminders List benefits its customers. Please change it back to the way it used to work!!
Thanks for following up with the Community, johnmcpa. I appreciate your detailed information.
I'm happy to hear you were able to figure out how to see a list of your recurring transactions.
You can also view a list of them by running your Recurring Template List report.
