Best way to manually enter missing or deleted bank transactions - Desktop PP 2020

This question concerns QB Desktop - Premier Plus Edition 2020

The Bank Feeds workflow is very helpful when importing the downloaded transactions. But on occasion, something will go wrong with the download, or items are accidentally ignored/deleted. Without repeating the download process, how can I best reproduce the import experience provided by the Bank Feeds interface?  For example, the interface provides the ability to

  • Quick Add
  • Add More Details
  • Match To Existing Transaction

These options are very helpful, but only seem to be available within the downloaded Transaction List

Best way to manually enter missing or deleted bank transactions - Desktop PP 2020

Hi there, @bvj.

I can explain to you some information about WebConnect and different types of Modes in QuickBooks Desktop.

The possible reasons why you're unable to see the Quick Add, Add More Details, and Match To Existing Transaction in the Bank Feeds is you're using the Classic Mode

Classic- uses the Transactions List window to add or match transactions. Can quickly update transactions for future matches or create rules to automatically recognize and match transactions to your books.

Advanced- uses the Transactions List window to add or match transactions.

Express- uses the account register to add or match transactions.

Here's how to switch modes:

  1. Go to the Edit button, then choose Preferences.
  2. Select checking, then pick the Company Preferences button.
  3. In the Bank Feeds section, choose Advanced or Express.
  4. Hit OK

For more information, check out this article: Switch between banking modes.

Additionally, when importing transactions from your bank to QuickBooks Desktop, the only accepted file format is.QBO. For more information, visit this article: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop. Directly go to Import Web Connect (.qbo) files.

Once done, you can go to the Bank Feeds Center to check the imported transactions.

I've attached articles about managing your downloaded transaction and resolving import issues.

Best way to manually enter missing or deleted bank transactions - Desktop PP 2020

I appreciate the response, but  the details of my question were not addressed.

Express mode is already enabled, and I normally have the Quick Add, etc options available in the Transaction List. The issue concerns the availability of those options when the downloaded transactions are incomplete or  mistakenly deleted.

Here's an example.  You're in the Express mode Transaction List. You mistakenly ignore an entry.  What do you do next?

Hi there, @bvj.

I appreciate your time here in the Community. Let me share what I know about importing bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

For the incomplete downloaded transactions, you can manually enter the details using the Add more Details option under the Action column. In case the option is unavailable, you can add the details directly to the bank register.

Here's how:

  1. Click the List tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Double-click the account.
  3. Search for the transaction.
  4. Update the details.

Also, once you ignore or delete a pending transaction, you can no longer undo and retrieve the data. The only workaround is to re-import the missing banking information via the Web Connect feature.

If you want to upload specific transactions only, I suggest you open and edit the file from your bank. You can choose to retain the data that you only need.

I've also attached an article you can use to update login and other info for the linked bank account in QuickBooks: Edit Bank Feed settings for bank or credit card accounts.
