Hi there, @ryanjparkinson-g.
I'm here to provide some insights about recategorizing your bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.
QuickBooks is dependent on the data that were transmitted from your financial institution. Transactions will be categorized in QuickBooks Online based on the rule that you've set and on the entries that matches the bank transaction.
To get this matter sorted out, I'd recommend reviewing the entries on your register. This way, you can edit the category of the entry if its showing as incorrect.
To do that:
- Go to your register.
- Look for the transaction.
- Double-click it and click on Edit.
- Change the account and save it.
Know that if the transaction is already in the Reviewed tab, you'll have to undo it. The system will move it back to the For Review tab so you can categorize it again.
If the transaction has been added in QBO already, you can check the Audit Log of the account to see any change made in the entry. This way, you can determine the category that was applied to the entry prior to the changes.
Here's how:
- Go to Gear icon.
- Select Audit Log.
- Click on Filter.
- Use the fields on the Filter panel to choose the appropriate User, Date, or Events filter to narrow the results.
- Select Apply.
Once done, you may apply necessary modifications to the transaction.
After that, you're now ready for reconciliation. It's best to do this monthly to ensure your account in QBO matches your bank statement. For more information, visit this article: Reconcile An Account.
I got your back if you need more help with bank transactions or with QuickBooks. Have a nice day!
