Chase credit card with 2 subaccounts

Has anyone worked out managing a Chase credit card with subaccounts in QBO?

My new client's 2 subaccounts are linked to the bank; the parent account is not.

Payments are recorded against the parent account. (Is that how it should be done?)

The subaccounts never have a balance that is anything near correct, so the balance sheet can't be right.

One subaccount is always in the negative, the other has a balance that just continues to increase and never decreases.

What are you doing that works??

In addition to all of this, it looks like through the years (back to 2018) journal entries were made to try to correct the balance. ($7k journal entry against Reconciliation Discrepancies!).  So in addition to a correct process flow, how would we make adjustments to get the balance(s) where they should be?

Thanks for any insight you can offer!

Chase credit card with 2 subaccounts

Hi,@NumbersByNelson.

Navigating banking tasks in QuickBooks Online can occasionally be challenging. I'm here to offer the information you need to address your questions.

Before linking a bank account in QuickBooks, please make sure that when posting a payment, it should also be connected to the chosen account.

Please note that it is not allowed to link both parent and subaccounts to avoid discrepancy issues.

And also, it should base it all on the bank statement when fixing what's not balanced in the account.

For detailed instructions on connecting your sub-account, please refer to the article:

Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online

In your additional question about your journal entry that you made and tried to correct the balance, I can see that you tried to do a reconciliation. Please do reach out to a accountant to fix your Bank Reconciliation, and also here's a helpful guide for you to check and fix the reconciliation issue:

Thank you for your reply.  It feels like perhaps you didn't read the details of my post. I am an accountant user and a QBO Pro Advisor and have been reconciling credit card accounts for a few decades. I know how that works.

My question is specific to the way Chase credit cards work within QBO. The set up in the chart of accounts is correct and the account is reconciled.

The balances are the issue I am asking about.  Because the payments are applied to the Parent account, the balances on the subaccounts are never right. One of them just keeps increasing with no decreases ever. So the balance sheet can't be right.

This is what I am asking about.

Good morning, @NumbersByNelson

Welcome back to the Community!

When you're trying to reconcile, you should only be reconciling the parent account. This could be why you're having this particular issue within your QuickBooks Online account. The software is designed to only reconcile the parent account.
