Has anyone had issues with past year data dissappearing or partially dissappearing in Self Employed Quickbooks? For some reason my 2019 data is partially missing

I can help you look for these 2019 transactions, @goodnighto1996.

Can you tell me from what bank or data these missing transactions are coming from? That'll help us get the best resolution for the error you're having.

From your Transactions tab, try to filter it to check for these missing data. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Transactions tab.
  2. Set the Type to AllAccount to All, and Date to Custom Date to set it for 2019.

That should let you view all the transactions from 2019.

In the meantime, I suggest manually downloading the transactions from the bank. Then, uploading the file to your account.

Download bank transactions:

  1. Go to your online banking account to get your file.
  2. Check or follow your bank’s instructions to get a copy of the data and then save it on your computer.
  3. Ensure that the data range is at least one day before your oldest transaction to avoid duplicates.
  4. Please take note of the supported file format and size. It should be a Comma-Separated Values (CSV).
  5. Download your transactions and save the file to your desktop.

To import your transactions:

  1. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon and select Imports.
  2. Select Import transactions.
  3. Follow the onscreen steps to upload the CSV file.
  4. Click on Import.

Here's the manually import transactions into QuickBooks Self-Employed article for more information.

You can also manually add them. Here's more information on how to manually add transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed. Also, the following article will guide you on how to categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Please let me know if you have any questions about your transactions. Let me know in the Reply section below. Keep safe and enjoy the rest of the day!

Has anyone had issues with past year data dissappearing or partially dissappearing in Self Employed Quickbooks? For some reason my 2019 data is partially missing

It was Huntington Bank, upon further review it appears all data before 2/10/2021 that wasn't manually entered has just completely gone and disappeared....I had receipts on a lot of that data, to have to go through and do that all again by hand would be rough...

So unfortunately it appears upon further review, all data before 2/10/2021 is just completely missing, like after a refresh it just removed a bunch of my data. A lot of those bank transactions i had receipts attached to, to have to manually pull them in via a CSV would be very time consuming.

Upon further review, it appears all my data before 2/10/21 is missing from Huntington Bank. A lot of those bank transactions I had receipts uploaded, to have to manually upload CSV's and redo all that again would be very time consuming and potentially error-prone, trying to recreate data that was lost.

Has anyone had issues with past year data dissappearing or partially dissappearing in Self Employed Quickbooks? For some reason my 2019 data is partially missing

Hi Goodnight :)

I have the same problem.  I'm on Windows 10.  When I converted from Quickbooks Desktop 2018 to 2021 in April, I lost all 2020 transactions, except for January 01-03.l  I've tried to reinstall my 2018 Desktop software and pull in my backups, but they've all been washed through the 2021 software. Like you, it's a REAL chore to pull in and reconcile an entire year's worth of data.  Any more word on this problem from Customer Support?

Hi Goodnight,

I have the same problem.  I'm on Windows 10 and converted my Quickbooks Desktop from version 2018 to version 2021 in April.  I've lost all transactions from March 2019 to present.  I last backed up my files in September 2020 and used that file to open my company in the new 2021 version.  Should have been easy enough, but it's all gone!  Thank goodness my account has my copy from the 2019 taxes.  But still stings that I lost 9 mos. of transactions from 2020.

Hello, @jceckberg.

I can help you with adding your 2020 bank transactions to your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account and reconcile them right after.

You can download those missing 2020 transactions from your bank. Then, import them to your QBDT account. From here, you can categorize them and reconcile them right after.

You can download those transactions from your QBDT account if the bank is connected or go directly to your bank's website and download your transactions as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file. For detailed guidance in getting your .qbo file, refer to this article: Download Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

After having your QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file, you can now import them to your QBDT account. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to your Banking menu, choose Bank Feeds and select Import Web Connect Files.
  2. Select the QBO file you saved and click Open.
  3. Choose either Use an existing QuickBooks account or Create a new QuickBooks account.
  4. Select Continue and then click on OK.

See this article for more information about adding this web connect file to your account: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.

The transactions are now available in your Bank Feeds Center. Check the following article to guide you in reviewing and matching your bank transactions in different modes: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. That'll also show you how to create rules in categorizing your transactions.

From here, you can now reconcile your past transactions one year at a time. This way, all adjustments, service fees, and interest you enter during the reconciliation process will apply to the year in which those transactions occurred. You can read through this article for more detailed steps: Reconcile an account for multiple months or years of transactions and financial statements.

Also, if in case you need info from your past reconciliation to review or fix a current reconciliation, you may pull up a reconciliation report. For the detailed steps, please see this article: Get reports for previous reconciliations in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted if you have other questions about your bank transactions. I'm always here to help. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Has anyone had issues with past year data dissappearing or partially dissappearing in Self Employed Quickbooks? For some reason my 2019 data is partially missing

Hi MaryJoyD,

I am well versed on uploading files from my bank and reconciling them in my Quickbooks Desktop.  The upgrade to 2021 wiped out almost two years of transactions/accounting.

Has anyone had issues with past year data dissappearing or partially dissappearing in Self Employed Quickbooks? For some reason my 2019 data is partially missing

Hi MaryJoyD,

I did some searching on the internet and found a suggestion from an outside source .  Did exactly what he said under "Recovering Lost/Deleted Quickbook Files...", and I retrieved the desired file.  Guess there were too many company files on my hard drive for the Quickbooks program to ascertain.

Simple solution.  Strange, but simple.
