How do fix a banking register that is connected to the wrong bank account? I have two checking accounts and they somehow got switched when I connected them.

I have two bank accounts and on the Banking screen, they show the correct balance and they bring in recent transactions, but when I "go to bank register" it's the wrong register. I've somehow messed something up but don't know how to fix.

Thanks for dropping by the Community, teapat.

Let’s get your bank feeds connected to the correct banking register. We’ll have to undo the added and matched transactions. After that, you can now disconnect each checking account and then reconnect it.

  1. Navigate to the Transactions menu on the left panel to select Banking.
  2. Under the Banking tab, click the Blue tile drop-down and select your checking account.
  3. Go to the Categorized tab to view all added entries.
  4. Tick the boxes for all transactions you wish to remove.
  5. Then click the Undo button and press Continue to confirm the action.undo qbo.1.png

This will disconnect the entries. Also, the original downloaded data will go back to the For Review tab.

For more details, feel free to read this article: Unmatch downloaded bank transactions or move them to another account. It outlines the complete steps on how to unmatch a downloaded transaction and move one to another account.

Once done, you can now unlink the online banking connection for each checking account. It only takes a few clicks to do this task.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu on the left panel and select the Banking option.
  2. Under the Banking tab, click the Blue tile drop-down and select your checking account.
  3. Click the Pencil icon and press the Edit account info link to display the Account window.
  4. From there, navigate to the Connected to section and tick the box for Disconnect this account on save.olb disc.1.png
  5. Tap the Save and Close button to keep the changes.

Perform the same process to the other account you wish to remove the connection. Next, connect your checking accounts to the bank feeds.

Additionally, the following guide will help you decide when to delete or unlink an account connected to the bank feeds. Disconnect or delete accounts connected to online banking.

You can bookmark this resource for future reference: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online. It outlines the steps on how to review, classify and match downloaded entries. From there, you’ll see a video on how the task is performed in your company.
