How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I would like to add my name to the list of people wanting an answer on this question. It's completely unacceptable to me that two Intuit products can't communicate with each other in a meaningful way. Does Intuit not want or expect its QB customers to use Turbotax?

I read a set of instructions for how to set this up, and frankly it's an embarrassment. You are required to install QB desktop software with a trial license, then use a version of Internet Explorer that is so outdated it literally cannot be installed on any modern Windows OS, and this is mandatory to download your QB file to the desktop software. Then and ONLY then can you export your file to Turbotax. I can't even...

If you have an accountant user who does taxes they can import the QBO data into Proseries, the intuit tax prep program for accountants.  It would be nice to be able to link QBO with Turbotax for people who want to do their taxes themselves, but really it's not all that much to manually enter.  For schedule C filers, it's just the P&L for the year, which is what, maybe 20 numbers

Dont even get me started on that!!!

I do my own taxes, using TurboTax Home/Business with some oversight from an accountant who uses the aforementioned inutit tax for accountants...

She can't even import my turbotax file.... MindBoggling!

I have to split the P&L between partners so its more like 40 entries that you are treating so lightly

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I totally agree. I had a choice to use Quickbooks online or desktop and I was talked into using the desktop version by QB, however no one every mentioned this information. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth regarding their company. The online is much more expensive without the ability to import to TurboTax....this is a no brainer.

Hello there, @Total Access Solutions.

The last thing I want is to see you leave because of the importing limitations. I'd like an opportunity to help walk you through bringing your QuickBooks Online data easily to TurboTax Desktop for tax filling.

Currently, the ability to directly import your data to Turbotax Desktop is not yet available. As mentioned by @Anonymous, you'll have to convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop using a trial subscription. How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Totally unacceptable.  I used desktop for years and was talked into going to the online version.  Had all kinds of issues converting, especially since we use QB Payments and QB Payroll.  Lot's of compatibility issues.  It turns out there are a lot of things that QB Online doesn't do that I could do with desktop.  This is total BS!  A new product for more money with less functionality.  One of the reasons I use QBO and TurboTax is due to the ability of importing.  We are now going to find another accounting solution and will replace payroll, payments, and tax prep as well.  I am through with Intuit's lack of customer service.  I'll find a company that I don't have to call out of the country to get help and that actually improves its products rather than taking away features.  This will be the last year I use Intuit for anything.  I'm not going to do the "trial" work around because I don't trust Intuit to properly import my data.  And NO I am not going to call their sorry excuse for customer service, only to talk to someone who doesn't even know the product.  All you keep hearing is to submit a suggestion for improvement.  Intuit should have been smart enough to know that this feature would be needed (if they even cared)

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I am just now learning that I've invested so much money in a company that can't integrate their own products. Of course, I'm very annoyed. To make it even worse, I have wasted a half hour trying to get someone at Intuit to give me an answer. And their tech support people have wasted my time. They don't even know their own products well enough. I only got an answer by happening on this website while I'm on hold waiting for yet another tech support person who won't be able to answer my question.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Woah, totally unacceptable that QuickBooks online does not integrate with TurboTax. I work in the software world and to have two products developed by the same business not integrate is completely unacceptable. I switched from Desktop to Online in 2018 to make things simpler and more 21st century (Desktop is a dinosaur as far as usability), but I should have guessed there was a catch.  What a rude awakening to find out that doing my taxes will be harder.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I am trying to import my QuickBooks Online data file into QuickBooks desktop so that I can import the data into TurboTax Business.

@IamjuViel

I  am following your advice in an effort to convert my QB Online data into QB Desktop so that I can use the file in TurboTax business.  But the software is not behaving the way the instructions indicate. There appears to be a step missing after the QBXML file is converted.

After the conversion QB Desktop does not open a window asking about a security certificate.

I am attaching a file to show the point at QB Online where this gets hung up.

How can I get help? I have put in hours at this point and bought TurboTax Busines thinking I was going to be able to do this.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I got to say that I am surprised there is still this issues. 15 years ago I built a team to do tax software conversions between different tax package used by professionals. It turns out that most thought is was a good idea to encrypt their databases to make it almost impossible for one to access their own data except with the manufactures software. Seems this model persists.

Who is working on a solution for this. My guess is not for 2018 tax reporting.

I just bought TurboTax business not knowing this little fact...heartfelt thank you!  Absolutely pathetic that I now need to spend at least an hour executing what you have laid out to export my business' online data into the desktop version (which I now have to sign up for the trial version)and then import into TurboTax desktop.  Either fix the integration with QBO to the Turbotax desktop version OR create a Turbotax Online version that connects to QBO.  Please inform your product development team they win the absolutely useless award.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

I wasted so much money using QB Online, when l could have purchased the desktop version and been fine. I had a accountant who did my taxes and encouraged me to get the online version. This year im doing my own taxes and learned about this snafu. This is ridiculous and l feel cheated all these years. Especially since its the same company that puts out both. There should be some form of communication. All OB has to do is allow the format to be downloaded with the right format like: (txf) or whatever is saves for QB just as it does for the desktop version. Simple as that. I dont understand why this has to be so complicated.

I looking into other desktop software that works with taxes and leaving the QB online.

I thought this would have been easy, but l have found out otherwise.

Not a happy customer.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Hello there, @info136.

Please allow me to join the thread and share a little more information about importing data to Turbotax Desktop.

I understand it can get frustrating when something isn't working the way we wanted to be. However, as of now, there isn't an option to import QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to Turbotax Desktop directly. On the other hand, to import the data, you have to convert your QBO data to QBDT using a trial subscription.

To learn more about importing data to Turbotax Desktop, you can check on the article/link provided by my colleague juVielL above.

In addition, if there's an update about importing QBO data to Turbotax Desktop directly, it will be posted on our QuickBooks Blog. To check, you can visit this link: The QuickBooks Blog.

Our doors are always open here on the Community page, feel free to add a post/comment if you have any other QuickBooks concerns. I'll be always here to help you!

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

This is one of the most ridiculous software experiences ever.  Below is my experience this year.

  1. Pay monthly price for Intuit QuickBooks Online.
  2. Use QBO to run a small business for a year.
  3. Pay for Intuit TurboTax Home and Business edition to do my own taxes.
  4. Find out that there is no good way to import from QBO -> TurboTax from this community thread and others.
  5. Get very very frustrated at all the money and time spent wasted.
  6. Locate this community thread and find solace in the fact that at least I am not the only one disenfranchised by this shoddy company.

This horrible experience has motivated me to stop drinking the Intuit koolaid and stop using all of their software.

Also, I have been a long-term Mint user (intuit also owns this too), and I just want to say that Personal Capital has a much better interface and does a much better job of credit card integrations to boot.

How do I import my quickbooks online data into turbotax business desktop?

Customer experience 101 -

1. Be upfront about limitations. Nope - your Quickbooks import UI doesn't say you can't import from a file or from online.  Only gives the option of the desktop which is confusing for customers thinking the product should integrate with their other products.

2. Ensure all support team members are on the same page and communicating the same message. Nope - called support and was disconnected 3 times.  They kept going to 2nd level support and NEVER once said it's doesn't work that way.   2 hours wasted

3. Provide valued customers a timeframe for resolution of the issue.  Nope - just acknowledge the issue and provide a time-wasting workaround.  This doesn't show we are valued and It's faster to hand enter then download a trial version.  Import from online.  Connect Tax software to QuickBooks online.  UGH!!!

Yep, the product manager should be fired.
