How do we download/upload bank feeds after May 31 2022?

To bring this up to date -- QB Pro 2023 ALSO has a discontinuation policy coming up in May 2024.  At that time, the software will be similarly crippled.

I was believing that manual importing would continue after the bank feeds were shut down, but after reading this thread I can now see this isn't the case.

It looks like ALL IMPORTS, manual or automatic, will fail with an error message when they are attempted.

I could understand if online imports had to be disconnected BC their team didn't want to keep up with interface/APIs for some reason -- but disabling manual imports using known, consistent formats?  There truly is no logical reason for this -- it costs nothing for QB to manually import.

Reading the repeatedly misleading or wrong replies from the Admins here, I don't see anything changing.  But in my dream world, someone would at Quickbooks Staff would escalate this and create a patch version for QB Pro 2023 so that manual imports continue to work.

It would go a long way to retain a loyal long-time customer base.

Intuit supports QB Desktop 2023 until May 2026. You can still run the bank feeds feature as long as your license is active by paying the annual subscription.

Intuit won’t support manual imports. This is crazy. Admins reply repeatedly with non-sensical responses or towing the “upgrade to subscription” company line

You are using QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus, correct?

You can import data manually as long as your license is active.

Until now, we have not had to pay an annual subscription to use the software which we purchased outright.

I believe we even received a statement saying the software would continue to run after May 2024, but that just certain features would stop working, one being Bank Feeds.

Is the above accurate, or inaccurate?

If accurate, then please clarify what you mean when you say that a "subscription will be required".  Will it, or will it not, still be functional after May as-is, without having to pay for anything new?

Which one do you have? 2021 or 2023?

Oh boy, do I feel slightly silly now.  I misstated above -- I have QB Desktop Pro 2021.

None of the new features of 2023 or 2024 actually are necessary for my small business use case so my (and many's) preference is to not upgrade, and we'd be fine manually importing bank data rather than auto-downloading and using the connect features.  My understanding from reading the above, is that the manual import feature will be disabled come May.

The cost of upgrading to 2023 or 2024 subscription seemed very high, and difficult to find links for the purchase as well.

They support QB Desktop 2021 until May 2024. Then you can prepare your bank transactions in XLS/CV format and use an importer tool to proceed. It's one time license

Another option, you can purchase a newer version to upgrade your data. You will have to call their sales team to purchase it. Otherwise, you can purchase it through selected partners (tax exempt, no credit card required, can get cashback).

"You will have to call their sales team to purchase it. Otherwise, you can purchase it through selected partners (tax exempt, no credit card required, can get cashback)."

I found their sales team really quite difficult to work with; even knowing I wanted to keep using their desktop product, their hard sales push for QBO was a major turnoff.  After a long long time talking and a few transfers, someone told me I could subscribe and get an update for $650+/year, which also wasn't desirable from a cost-benefit look -- no new features I care about but I need pay 10x more?    (considering I use the product for 3 years typically before updating).

What partners might you recommend for an upgrade?

And -- I still find it unnecessary product strategy to disable imports, and it's just upsetting their longtime client base.   Disabling integrations -- sure.. it might be a maintenance cost.  Disabling offline import -- I can't imagine one good reason except to push people away from the desktop product or hardball them into a subscription model.

Questions:

What is this that is not true?

What do you mean when you write, "manually upload bank feeds"?

Re "it automatically goes to my qb2023". What is "it"?

Re "with error" What is the error you get?

Details matter.

That's fantastic -- as a coder and believer in "the right things happening" (QB's current business direction is *not* an example of "the right thing" for small businesses which were the main users of QuickBooks for so many years)!

Looked through the thread and will download/test in April when I have breathing room from our "busy season"...

Question -- it looks like a tool to map import (e.g. .QBO files) files we download from a bank, and directly import them into QuickBooks somehow -- is an accurate description?  Aside from doing mapping, what's the workflow?  Obviously, not all transactions will match 100% -- where do they go if they don't match, and is there any kind of checking to see if any of the rows already were imported (to avoid dupes)?

I'm fairly used to using the import/reconciliation feature in QBD's "bank feeds" (although we manually download and import).

I was going to write this software myself and did some search and found this was already done.

Also, great that he wrote in Python.

Regarding your question, this tool is basically replicating the QB workflow except the IIF file creation:

1. Read QBO file

2. Apply rules: There's a separate utility he wrote and provides that emulates creating the rules similar to QB.

3. Present the mapping in a GUI similar to Bank Feeds transaction list. This is where you can correct issues similar to QB.

4. Create IIF file

The only gripe I have is that the rule creation for accounts is name based and not number based. In other words, you have to create a rule to assign it to "Meals and Entertainment" instead of some account #1234.

I find this a bit annoying b/c sometimes (read: rarely) I may want to change the account name but keep the same number.

Where, if anywhere, does anything prevent duplicate transactions from importing?

Will QB do this when you import the .IIF?  (I've never tried importing IIFs before, only used "bank feeds")

RedRob

(honestly -- I'm still disgusted they're crippling the .QBO import/reconciliation process.  I'd understand shutting off online bank downloads because that's a maintenance issue for them and they're trying to get users away from the desktop platform.  But simply importing of non-changing .QBO format -- there is no cost-based justification for them to do that, other than a tactic to force users to buy into their higher-fee subscription model)

I 100% agree with your sentiment. FWIW, they've been getting away with it for several years so they're not going to stop now.

I migrated to QBD many years ago and recall that IIF files are powerful but dangerous exactly for this reason: you can't prevent duplicate transactions.

@TFFO2015

How about using a 3rd party importer tool as a workaround? It's a $199 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase it via a partner.
