How do we download/upload bank feeds after May 31 2022?

The bank feed feature for QBD 2019 (or older versions) will be inactive after May 31, 2022. You can download *.qbo files manually from your bank but QB will decline to import them. You can prepare the bank statements with the following XLS template

Bank AccountTransaction DatePayeeChk No.AccountAmountMemoClassBillableBillable Entity
Checking01/09/2020AT&T123Utilities:Telephone-100Check Payment N
Checking02/09/2020Jane Doe141Product Sales150Deposit N

then utilize one of these importer tools

How do we download/upload bank feeds after May 31 2022?

Hello there. Let me share a few insights about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) service discontinuation and guide you on a way how to upload your downloaded bank transactions after May 31, 2022.

Yes, after the above-mentioned date, access to add-on services (Payroll Services, Live Support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services) will be discontinued for QBDT 2019 and older versions. Then, starting June 1, 2022, you'll no longer receive critical security updates.

You'll want to either upgrade your QBDT to the newer versions or migrate to the QuickBooks Online (QBO) platform to continue utilizing our ad-on services. Please refer to this article to learn more about service discontinuation: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

However, even without the add-on online banking service, your QBDT software will continue to work for you. You'll still be able to manually upload your downloaded transactions from your financial institutions. To do this, here's how:

  1. Open a web browser and sign in to your bank’s website.
  2. Follow the instructions to download your transactions as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file.
  3. Once done, open QBDT and go to the Banking menu.
  4. Select Bank Feeds, then Import Web Connect Files.
  5. Click the QBO file you saved, then select Open.
  6. When prompted to Select Bank Account, select:
    • Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into isn't in QuickBooks yet. Learn how to create an account.
  7. Select Continue, then OK.
  8. Go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

Once you're done, go ahead and categorize your downloaded bank transactions. This way, you can keep your financial data accurate and updated. Please see this article for the complete guide: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, I would encourage you to reconcile your accounts every month. This helps monitor your income and expense transactions and detect any possible errors accordingly. For the step-by-step guide, you can check out this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have other banking concerns and questions about the QBDT service discontinuation policy. I'm always ready to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success.

I don't know about anyone else but I am livid about this.  I wonder if a class action lawsuit might be in order.  Once you buy desktop software with certain features and pay for it, I don't see how they can discontinue features and force you to upgrade.  It seems illegal to me and I'm not one to cry "sue everyone!"  It's BS.

Hi GSL_FSSP,

Thank you for joining in on the thread. I'll help you check to see why you can't import your transactions.

Are you receiving an error when uploading your transactions? We have an article listing all possible errors and their solutions that you can check out: Fix Web Connect import errors.

You can also check about categorizing and reconciling bank transactions for your reference in the future.

The QB Team is always available if you need more help. Take care and have a good one!

That doesn't work just so you know.  You get a pop up telling you that feeds have been discontinued and you have to upgrade.  It doesn't work.

The error is that it won't import it because services have been discontinued.  Period.

No error...I get the same "YOU'RE SCREWED - UPGRADE!" dialog box popup as when I just try to download my bank txns.

This is simply NOT RIGHT, being coerced into upgrade when the software (DESKTOP = independence) was purchased fairly, at certain feature levels, for a fairly agreed upon price.  And now...Intuit has CROSSED THE LINE and dipped their fingers into my privately-owned-software to meddle and try and FORCE me into buying something that is vital to my business that I'd already purchased fairly and squarely.  There feels like there's something illegal about this...?

As a former IT pro, I know that the simple download connection to a bank feed, once in place, requires $0 on-going support allocation.  And, to truly make it $0, just tell the customers (all of us) that "if it breaks, don't call us." rather than do the dirty deed of DISABLING the feature.  So, unless ones bank or CC processor makes changes to our ability our connect, then it would work fine on-going.  However if they do, then we, not Intuit, would be screwed.  Which the problem then would be on us to solve, not Intuit.  It's really not a hard equation to figure out.  But, no...you all have decided to attempt to "corner" us into buying your BS subscription service crap.  We, as business people don't need any more "piling" on with the SaaS subscription model, there's already are enough of that in our small business worlds.

I appreciate you for joining the thread, @aboone.

I can see the importance of these add-on features for your business with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

It’s right that after May 31, 2022, QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Services, Live Support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services provided by QuickBooks Desktop 2019 development tools and older versions will be discontinued.

To continue using our add-on services, you'll either want to upgrade your QBDT to newer versions or migrate to the QuickBooks Online (QBO) platform.

Moreover, the error you encountered when importing transactions is due to the discontinuation of the feature. Please see the following article for more information on service discontinuation: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy

You can always get back if you have further questions regarding QuickBooks. I’ll be around to address that. Stay safe!

I’m here to impart information about importing transactions, @GSL_FSSP.

As mentioned above, you’ll need to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop version to be able to import transactions via Direct Connect or Web Connect. The other option is to enter them manually.

Please know that upgrading your program sustains your needed features and services to run your business efficiently. Check out this article to learn more about the service discontinuation: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

@GSL_FSSP

You need to have a 3rd party tool to import bank transactions from CSV/XLS formats into your QB Desktop file. Prepare your data with the following template

Bank AccountTransaction DatePayeeChk No.AccountAmountMemoClassBillableBillable Entity
Checking01/09/2020AT&T123Utilities:Telephone-100Check Payment N
Checking02/09/2020Jane Doe141Product Sales150Deposit N

then utilize one of these importer tools

https://transactionpro.grsm.io/qbd

https://partners.saasant.com/affiliate/idevaffiliate.php?id=5051_2

Otherwise, you can still purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 to upgrade your version.

I see no one else has this feature working.  As others mentioned, I bought this software and intuit is stupid to turn off importing their own file type.  If this is the case and will not be unlocked, I will NEVER use another intuit product.  Great work Intuit!

@CFAs

Unfortunately this is their standard discontinuation policy and you have agreed to this EULA when you installed QB Desktop 2019.

Funny, even your link doesn't work.  I guess Intuit discontinued that as well.  I hate to tell QuickBooks but it's probably going to be time for THOUSANDS of customers to jump ship.  The costs keep going up for very little added functionality.  My accounting, while there are a lot of transactions, are very simple and there is a huge part of the software I don't need.  I will VERY much be looking at my other options for accounting.

I understand where QB can discontinue the logging in and internal downloading of the transactions for various security and other reasons.

HOWEVER - I have been manually downloading QBO files for quite some time because Intuit's system internally for these updates has always worked marginal at best.  It is RIDICULOUS that I'm now not allow a simple and convenient import of a file.  I hope that I'm not the only one that may jump ship on anything Intuit because of this.  It is truly absurd to take away manual qbo or excel file imports.

If excel file imports of transactions are allow, someone please share a link on the process.  I have not found anything good.  Thanks.

It's my goal to address your concern for today, CFAs.

I'll show you the whole process of manually importing your bank transactions in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You can use the Web Connect option if your bank has this feature. This will allow you to set a date range for downloading bank transactions that are more than 90 days old. There are two ways to do that. The first is in QuickBooks, and the second is outside QuickBooks.

Inside QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Hover over Bank Feeds and select Banking Center.
  3. Find your bank and select Download Transactions. This opens a browser window to your bank's website.
  4. Sign in to your bank's website to download the Web Connect file.

Outside QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Open a web browser and go to your bank’s website.
  2. Sign in to your bank account using your normal process.
  3. Download your transactions as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file.

Note: Every bank has a different method for downloading QuickBooks Web Connect files. If you're not sure how to do it, visit your bank's website and look for their steps. If you can't find any, reach out to your bank for help.

  1. Once you have the Web Connect file, follow the steps to import it into QuickBooks Desktop.

More details about downloading bank feed transactions in QBDT can be found in this article: Download Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

You may find this article helpful when managing Bank Feed transactions in QBDT: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Be sure to get back to me if you have follow-up questions about importing bank transactions. Always at your service. Have a good day.

You need a 3rd party app to do so.

How do we download/upload bank feeds after May 31 2022?

I'm on Desktop 2019 and have been importing bank feeds as a QBO file for several years. I got the upgrade notice, but it did not say anything about no longer importing bank feeds. The other discontinued services were things I did not use, so I have not upgraded. Now my manual import of QBO files downloaded from the bank suddenly do not work.

But according to this post, manual import was not discontinued?

Importing .qbo files on QBD 2019 is disabled after May 31. But you can still import data from CSV/XLS with the importer tool as I mentioned earlier.

Wow.  You really don't get what we are saying.  We KNOW you want more money from us, we are trying to find ways to not spend more money, as we are small businesses trying to stay afloat.  Thanks for nothing.

Sooooo disgusted with Intuit
