Hello CrazyDragon,
You can hide the icon bars by clicking View > Hide Icon Bar at the top menu. This will not reappear unless you want it to.
The workarounds provided by other users might work, too. Temporarily, they can remove the display issues.
Let's do a few troubleshooting steps to permanently fix the display issue. We can review whether this is a data or program issue.
If that works, we can conclude that this is a data issue. We can go back to your company file and do the Verify/Rebuild process. This will fix any data-integrity issues on your company file.
Otherwise, we'll uninstall and reinstall the program. Before that, I'd recommend creating a backup copy of your company file.
After uninstalling the program, you can reinstall it. You can follow the detailed steps in this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop.
Let us know what are the results. We'll assist you more if necessary.
The fact that the icon bars change every time you open quickbooks or change user mode is ridiculous. The search bar should not randomly appear & should be something you select you want, not a default. QB needs to get these issues resolved as it is not fair to the MULTITUDE of users who have to contined to deal with the issues!!

Hi you suc k,
You can only click the View menu and select the Hide Icon Bar at the top menu to remove the icon bar. Once done, this will remove the search bar. I've attached screenshots for visual guide.
As mentioned by JamesDuanT, you can perform the troubleshooting steps if the icon bar will show again in QuickBooks Desktop.

Hello Every one,
We did a bit more research on this and here are our findings,
Every time a user launches or closes the QuickBooks, the [WINDOWSTATE] section of "C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 20.0\qbw.ini" file gets update
These settings are the ones that cause the search bar to appear or disappear. In our findings we found that it is not due to just one of the settings which are (LEFT, TOP, WIDTH, HEIGHT), its due to their combination, For e.g. we were able to make the search bar disappear by simply changing one value, other times we had to change more then one value and another times we had to delete all the 5 values including the STATE and it worked fine. Now the issue is, there doesn't seem to be a way to controlling it as every time a user logs in and logs out these settings get changed.
We have checked this on a multiple servers and were able to reproduce this issue.
Intuit please fix it.
Thank you, I had 2 search bars.
One is more than enough
We have multi-user Enterprise 21 and thanks for pointing out the qbw.ini changes all the time.
On our PC that acts as a "QB Server", we did the edits in notepad as suggested and it got rid of the icon bar...for a while then it returned.
So we copied a "good" version of the qbw.ini file and named it qbw - no icon bar version.ini.
When QB screws up the qbw.ini instead of having to open and edit in wordpad, we just copy the good version and overwrite the messed up one.
No ideal, but avoids having multiple people manually editing the qbw.ini file and risk messing up an important config variable.
Near as we can tell, one qbw.ini is all there is - so if opening different company files or secondary one, they all use the same ini configuration? Did not see any ini files in the folders we store each company file in.
Thanks for joining in on this thread, HIR.
I'd be glad to provide some additional info about your concern.
There's only one QBW.INI file used for different company files. This helps QuickBooks to store initialization information. Please take note that once you close and reopen the file, the value on the QBW.INI file will return to what it was before.
If you want to edit the file and change the program parameters on how QuickBooks loads and behaves, you can follow these steps:

Go to the "Top Icon Bar"
Choose it, then go to the option at the bottom and "Uncheck" the option for "Search"
That should remove it.
Old thread but I found the solution today
View > Top Icon Bar
Now on the right hand side next to the search bar, click the >> icon and click Customize Icon Bar
Then on the bottom, uncheck the option for Show search box in icon bar
You can change it back to Left Icon Bar and it wont show up again.
Thanks for sharing your resolution with the Community @hiphopfc.

I have tried repeatedly to get the Icon bar to remain hidden, and it simply will not remain hidden. Usually the top icon bar shows up, sometimes only the search Icon Bar. Extremely frustrating to have to waste time nearly every time you open the program, having to do multiple clicks to make the Icon bar remain hidden. Saving current desktop view in preferences does not keep it at bay.
Please help with a proper solution.
Let me help share information about this setting, @colorchange.
I was able to hide the Icon Bar display using the test company file in QuickBooks Desktop. I tried closing and opening the program and the icons are kept hidden to make sure the feature is working.
While the option is not working accordingly, I suggest letting our product developers know about this feature by sending feedback. I'll show you how.

NOT a permanent solution.
THIS is the only "solution" that has stuck on the next open of a company file.
This happened some years ago and then started again recently on a NEW installation on another machine.
Just ONE more reason I am going to stop giving another penny to Intuit.
20+ years, and they still can't make a reliable product.
Here's how I I accidently got rid of the Icon bar: I minimized the entire Quickbooks program screen (click on the very very top boxes. Then maximized. Gone
