I have just purchased quickbooks mac desktop and web connect and wells fargo bank are not working, I can not download and import transactions. Quickbooks keeps saying to setup the online banking- I have too many times to count. What's the deal? Why don't these work? And from what I am reading while researching for help, these problems are old. Is there a way to download transactions with web connect and wells fargo that does work? Wells Fargo is my main bank and I have a ton of transactions. I wanted a helpful automated solution NOT more work and wasted time. Very disappointed with this service.
Welcome to the Community, @RikiTikiTavi3. I can see the need to get your banking issue resolved immediately. With this, yes, there's a way to download transactions with Web Connect and Wells Fargo that does work.
I've read the error message you've mentioned above. It looks like you haven't completely set up the online banking in the program. Also, the file type may not be .qbo since this is our supported format when importing bank transactions. That may be the reason you're unable to import them.
First, I'd suggest setting up online banking in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac. This way, you'll be able to import your Wells Fargo transactions to the software through Web Connect. I'll guide you how.
Second, you'll have to download a statement from your bank's Web Connect site using a .qbo file. Then, import it to QBDT for Mac. It helps you complete the setup process. Here's how:
For the detailed instructions, see this article's Set up the account section: Set Up And Use Online Banking (Mac).
Once imported, I recommend adding your Wells Fargo transactions and creating renaming rules. You can also match them to the existing entries in your register. Doing so will help ensure your financial records are accurate in the software. For more information, view the Add and match transactions section through the article I've provided above.
Also, you can visit this website: Fix Online Banking. It provides you the recommended solutions to help you resolve any online banking issues.
Please know that you can count on me if there's anything else you need. Keep safe always, @RikiTikiTavi3.
This does NOT fix the problem. I am stuck in a setup banking loop. As I have said before - I have done this setup many, many times and it does not work. It does not upload the Well Fargo document and so it sends me back to the setup online banking. Wells Fargo downloads a qfx file. Apparently this is not the correct file. How do I get the correct file?
Thank you for providing me the exact file type Wells Fargo uses, @RikiTikiTavi3. It helps me determine the root cause of this issue. Rest assured that I've got the steps to help you get the correct file. This way, you'll be able to bring in your transactions to the software.
Right now, the supported format when importing bank transactions to QBDT for Mac is .qbo file. I'd first recommend converting the .qfx file into that type to help you complete the Web Connect process. I'll guide you how.
Also, you can open your Safari browser. Then, enter Convert .qfx file to .qbo as the keyword in the Search box. You'll be able to see a lot of websites that provide you steps about the file conversion process.
Once converted, import the file again using the second batch of steps I've provided above.
I suggest adding your bank transactions or matching them to the existing entries in your register. It helps you ensure the accuracy of your financial records in the program. Just go to the Downloaded Transactions window from the Banking menu to perform this activity.

Hi!
I am experiencing the same circular loop when trying to set up a Wells Fargo bank account in Quicken Desktop Mac 2020.
My Desktop app is up to date.
When I select "Banking > Downloaded Statements" I am asent back to the "Set Up Online Banking" start screen. Frustrating.
When in the app, if I click on "Help", there is no option to "contact" Quicken support. Frustrating.
Please help!
