I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

Hi there, @friends3

Thanks for visiting the Community today. I'm here to help fix your reconciliation.

If your transactions aren't reconciled yet, you can click the Edit info button in the upper right-hand corner of the reconciliation page. Then, change the Ending Date of your statement and click Save.

However, if it's already reconciled, you'll need to undo the reconciliation. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, then select Chart of Accounts under Your Company
  2. Select the account you're working on, and click on View Register.
  3. Select the transactions you want to unreconcile.
  4. Keep on clicking the status until it shows blank or cleared (C).
  5. Click Save.

You can also ask assistance from an accountant with a QBO Accountant subscription to undo an entire reconciliation

Just in case you encounter any issues while reconciling, you can check out this article to learn fixing it: Fix issues at the end of reconciliation in QuickBooks Online

Let me know if you need more help with reconciliation. I'll always be here to help.

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

I used your process of going to the bank register and "unreconciling" transactions - that I assumed would allow me to re-reconcile after I changed the statement date to the correct date.  It still won't allow me to add a new date.  Now what?

Let me provide some information about changing an incorrect date on a reconciliation,

We appreciate you carrying out my colleague's recommended solutions. We can still change the ending date if you haven't finished the reconciliation by returning to the reconciliation page. Then, modify the Ending Balance and End Date periods. Here's how it's done:

  1. Go to Accounting on the left menu.
  2. Click the Reconcile tab.
  3. Choose the bank account from the Account drop-down list.
  4. Tap the Resume reconciling button.
  5. Tick the Edit Info button located in the upper right-hand corner.
  6. Change the Ending Balance and Ending Date.
  7. Press Save.

However, if the reconciliation has already been completed, the option to change the date in QuickBooks Online is unavailable (QBO). We can reverse the reconciled transactions. Let me demonstrate:

  1. Click Accounting at the left panel and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the account for the transaction and click View register.
  3. Look for the transaction that you want to undo reconciliation.
  4. In the check column, repeatedly click the top line of the transaction until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  5. Press the Save button.

To learn more about this one, see the Undo and remove transactions from reconciliations in the QuickBooks Online article. Once done, start the reconciliation again and enter the correct ending date. You can check the Reconcile an account in the QuickBooks Online article for the steps and details. Just in case QBO doesn't match your bank statement at the end of reconciliation, follow the steps in the Fix issues when you're reconciling accounts in the QuickBooks Online article to troubleshoot the issue.

Feel free to visit our Reconciliation page for more insights about reconciling your bank account with QuickBooks.

I'd like to know how you get on after trying the steps, as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Please reply to this post and I'll get back to you. You have a good one.

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

this "fix" completely wrecked my books.  Now the statement beginning balance is completely incorrect and doesn't match any of my statements.  I only unreconciled the entries from the statement I was trying to fix.  I can start a new reconcilliation but then it's a new reconcilliation and not fixing the old one.

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

I had this issue today and this is how I fixed it:

Accounting -> Reconcile

Upper Right Click History By Account

Locate the incorrect Closing Date and click View Report

Click Undo

When prompted click yes to undo the last reconciliation.

Re-Reconcile the account with the proper ending date

Hope This Helps!

Hello, @paulettem. Let me provide some information about the Undo reconciliation option in QuickBooks Online.

This feature is only available in QuickBooks Online Accountant. We can invite your accountant to perform the process. If you don't have one, we can use our Find-an-Accountant tool to look for an expert near you.

Once the accountant accepts the invite, they can start undoing the reconciliation.

On the other hand, you need to edit each transaction to undo the reconciliation manually. Here's how:

  1. From the Bookkeeping menu, select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account and select Account history.
  3. Search the transaction you want to unreconciled.
  4. Go to the check column. If the transaction is reconciled, you'll see an "R."
  5. Select the checkbox. It changes the letter in the box. Keep selecting it until it is blank to remove the transaction from the reconciliation.
  6. Click Save once done.

For future reference, here are some additional resources to guide you through managing your reconciled transactions and the reconciliation workflow:

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

Why would I not have the ability to undo the date on a reconciled transaction.  Why would I have to pay an accountant to do it.  This is my quickbooks.

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

I know how important to have the option to undo bank reconciliation in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Donna.

Rest assured, I'm here to help you do it in QuickBooks.

I'd like to reiterate what my colleague mentioned about the undoing of bank reconciliation at once is only available if you're using the QuickBooks Online (QBO) Accountant version, they have a special reconciliation tool that allows them to undo the entire reconciliation.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Undo a client’s reconciliation in QuickBooks Online Accountant.

However, If you're using QBO,  you can follow these instructions to undo reconciled transactions one at a time:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu. Then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and select View register.
  3. To help you focus on this task, filter the register to only include the last 60 days of transactions.
  4. Review the check column. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “R.”
  5. Select the box and keep clicking it until it's blank. It removes the transaction from the reconciliation.

  6. Select Save. Then close your register.

I've added here an article that will help you in case you encounter reconciliation issues: Fix issues when you're reconciling accounts.

If there's anything else I can help you with, aside from reconciliation, please let me know by leaving a comment below. I'd be more than willing to lend you a hand, Donna.

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

Thank you for the reply. But do you really think it should be necessary to contact my accountant for something like that, afterall I am the one doing the bank recs. Is that something that can be changed so it can be done in the online version, without contacting an accountant?

Thanks.

Hello there, paulettem.

Let me walk you through how to undo bank reconciliation in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can only undo reconciled transactions individually to avoid account imbalances.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then Chart of accounts.
  2. Click the View register of your bank.
  3. To help you focus on this task, filter the register to only include the last 60 days of transactions.
  4. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “R” in the checkmark ✔ column.
  5. Select the transaction to expand the view.
  6. In the checkmark ✔ column, select the box with the “R” until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  7. Select Save.

However, if you prefer undoing an entire bank reconciliation, it's best to reach out to an accountant if you have one. However, if you don't have one yet you can refer to this ProAdvisor link for advice on how to properly handle this matter, so your report will reflect accurate data.

Furthermore, I've added this article in case you encounter any issues during the reconciliation process: Fix issues at the end of a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to come back to this thread if you need further assistance undoing reconciliation in QBO. Take care.

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

I ran into the same problem with the date issue. All the transactions are correct but statement ending date is wrong. I followed all the steps to undo the transactions in the register but it does not give me the option to fix the date and reconcile the account again. My problem with the date is with the year. My November reconciliation report says Nov 2024 and then for December it is is Dec 2023 but not sure why it let me reconcile December 2023 if there was an error on November date. My November Reconciliation is Nov 2024 now a date in the future and the December is Dec 2023 a date in the past. I feel there is a bug in the program that needs a fix not an accountant to undo the reconciliation.

Frustrated and need help

I am having the exact same issue. I just did five months and had 2024 calendar selected instead of 2023. There seems to be no way to just change the statement date.

I put the wrong statement ending date on a reconciliation. how can I change it?

It's nice to see you posting your concern here on this thread, @AKZ2024.

I've come to help you with your concern about editing the Statement End date in QuickBooks Online.

As provided by my colleagues above, we can change the ending date if it's not yet reconciled. To do this, go back to the reconciliation page and modify the End Date periods.

Here's how:

  7. Press Save.

If reconciled, you can undo the reconciliation. However, this feature is only available in QuickBooks Online Accountant. We can invite your accountant to perform the process. If you don't have one, we can use our Find-an-Accountant tool to look for an expert near you.

On top of that, you'll want to have a copy of your reconciliation report by visiting this resource: How do I view, print, or export a reconciliation report?

Drop by in this thread again if you have future concerns with reconciliation. I'm here to offer help. Good day ahead.
