I want to change the Class on multiple transactions instead of plowing through each individual transaction?

I also need to do this.  New to QBO but not new to accounting.

This should be a feature and looks like a known weakness for years.  Is it fixed?

Please don't respond you know how important this is,  if you're a QBO rep.  That response has been repeated many times.  Please just respond, yes it is fixed, no it is not fixed.

Thanks

I want to change the Class on multiple transactions instead of plowing through each individual transaction?

Hi Santa Monica!

Yes, QuickBooks Online has this feature. Let me help you.

QuickBooks Online for Accountants and QuickBooks Online Advanced plan has a Reclassify Transactions feature. This allows you to change multiple transactions or move them to a different account. With this feature, you can update the class on more than one transaction at once.

Please check this link: Reclassify or move multiple transactions at once. This will show you the detailed steps on how to use the tool.

If you're subscribed to QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essentials, or Plus, you'll want to upgrade to Advanced or seek some assistance from your accountant.

Also, visit this page if you need more references and tips in managing your business with QuickBooks Online: QBO Articles.

Hi - is there a way to do this yet in QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop?

I want to change the Class on multiple transactions instead of plowing through each individual transaction?

Hi Santa Monica!

Thank you for posting again here.

Currently, an option to reclassify the transaction is available in QuickBooks Desktop Accountant, Enterprise, or Accountant Enterprise. You'll want to send a copy of your company data to your accountant so they can do it on your behalf. Here are the articles you can check for the steps:

Non-accountant versions don't have an option to edit the Class on multiple transactions at once. You'll want to manually edit the transactions individually.

Also, I'd encourage you to send feedback about this feature to our developers and let them know that you need this in QuickBooks Desktop, too.

  1. Go to the Help tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click Product Suggestion.

If you're a new QuickBooks Desktop user, I suggest you check these links. These will help you understand more on how to use the system:

Keep on posting here if you need anything else. Take care!

I figured it out.  Company>Accounting Tools>Reclassify Transactions.  From there you can select a date range, GL account, or name, and change/modify the Class.

Thanks for joining this conversation, @Lisa2002.

As discussed in previous responses to this thread, reclassifying multiple transactions at once is only available if you're using QuickBooks Online Accountant or Advanced version. For more info, please see this article: Reclassify or move multiple transactions at once.

If you're using the QuickBooks Online Plus, Simple Start, or Essential versions, you'll need to manually change the categories of each transaction.

You can also look for a third-party app that integrates with QBO to help you reclassify multiple transactions. Here's how:

  1. Head to the QuickBooks Apps store.
  2. From the search bar, enter a keyword of the feature you needExample: Update class of multiple transactions.
  3. Then, press the Enter key on your keyboard.

Also, feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team to further help you do any of your QBO tasks. Our live support operating hours are from Monday to Friday 6 AM to 6 PM and on Saturday 6 AM to 3 PM Pacific Time.

If you have additional questions about reclassifying your transactions, please post a comment below. I'll be always around to lend you a hand. Have a good one.

Same issue here-  ridiculous that there is no way to add a class except one transaction at a time!

I am dumbfounded this issue is going on 3 years and it is still not resolved for Quickbooks Plus. Your program is supposed to save me time and here I am adjusting 1 transaction at a time.

I REALLY wish I had known this before I just went through the trouble of switching our accounting system to QBD.

We were the "test dummy" office for all our sister offices (16).  There is zero chance any of us can utilize this software without that functionality.  Thankfully, I can halt the transfer for the other offices and I'm the only one who will need to revert back to our previous software.

I understand the importance of batch editing your entries, Bizguy.

Reclassifying or moving multiple transactions at once is only available in QuickBooks Online Advanced and Accountant. If you aren't using any of these versions, I recommend manually moving them. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the account, then click View register under the Action column.
  3. Find and select the specific transactions, then click Edit.
  4. In the transaction window, change the correct account in the Bank Account drop-down menu.
  5. Click Save to complete.
  6. Repeat the process to move all the transactions.

Alternatively, you can invite your accountant to perform the process:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and then select Manage users.
  3. Select the Accounting firms tab.
  4. Enter your accountant’s email address, then select Invite.

I suggest sharing this article to help them use the Reclassify transactions tool efficiently: Move Multiple Transactions.

If you want to have this feature, you can upgrade your plan.

Once done, I suggest running the reports in your QuickBooks account. Doing so ensures your record is accurate.

Please keep us posted if you need additional assistance tracking and managing your transactions. We're always here to help you out.

I want to change the Class on multiple transactions instead of plowing through each individual transaction?

Unfortunately a response like this just makes the situation worse. If you were to tell us that it's a complicated process and the engineers are working on it, that would be one thing. But what I'm now hearing is it is possible, but QuickBooks is holding out so they can get more money for it.

Ridiculous.

Is this bulk/batch reclassifying available in Premier or Enterprise Gold?

Thank you for following this thread, dtnguyen102.

We can see how beneficial the Reclassify Transactions tool is to many users. Thus, it improves productivity and saves business time. I'm here to help provide clarification on the feature mentioned above,

The function is only available in QuickBooks Desktop Accountant, Enterprise, or Accountant Enterprise. If you're using any of these versions, let me show you the steps to correct your data.

To start with, set the fiscal year or date range of entries you want to check. Here's how:

  1. In your company file, head to the Accountant menu at the top to choose Client Data Review and Client Data Review.
  2. This action will direct you to the Client Data Review screen.
  3. From there, go to the Review Date Range section and enter the date in the From and To fields.
  4. In the Review Basis section, choose Accrual or Cash.
  5. Click the Start Review button (the first time you use it) or Modify Review for subsequent uses.
  6. In the Account Balances section, find Reclassify Transactions and press the Status ▼ drop-down to select In Progress.
  7. Tap the Close button.

After setting the period, you can start reviewing your client's entries and then correct them. Also, you're unable to reclassify data that use Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or change the class.

For detailed instructions on how to move transactions to their appropriate account or class, perform Steps 2 up to 3 in this article: Accountant tools.

In case you want to remove multiple entries in bulk, browse this reference to learn more about the process: Batch delete or void transactions.

We compiled resources that will guide users on how to carry out their accounting tasks using the desktop program. Our self-help articles contain topics about inventory, cashflow management, payroll, and taxes to name a few.

Feel free to click the Reply button and post your comments if you have other QuickBooks concerns or questions about classifying data. I'll get back to assist you further. Have a great rest of the day.

@dtnguyen102

The feature is available in Premier Accountant, not Premier. You can also use Enterprise Silver, no need to have Gold. If you prefer to use Enterprise, purchase the new license through selected partners to get renewal discounts.
