Somehow I opened QB Simple Start and QB self employed for the same biz. I am paying for two separate accounts and one is empty of data. How can I merge them into one Simple start account without losing data?

I'm here to help you move your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) data to Simple Start (QBO), julief1.

You can transfer the QBSE data to QBO. Simply check if the Explore QuickBooks Online plans option is available on your QBSE account. It's the button where you can move files to your existing Simple Start account.

Let me show you how:

  1. Log into your QBSE account.
  2. Select the Gear icon and select Billing info.
  3. If you see the Explore QuickBooks Online plans, select it to start the upgrade.
  4. Select Switch plan or Choose plan for the QuickBooks Online plan you want.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps.
  6. If you want to save a copy of your reports before you move everything, select the Download your reports link.
  7. Click Bring my data if you want to choose which data you move over.
  8. If you don't want to move any data and start fresh, select Start fresh.
  9. When you're ready to move your data to QuickBooks Online, select To QuickBooks Online.
  10. If you see a billing info review screen, select Change plan to start.

If you aren't seeing this option, you can manually transfer your data to QBO. Please browse this link for instructions on how to import: Switch from QuickBooks Self-Employed to QuickBooks Online.

I'm also adding this link to help manage your QBO account: Getting Started With QuickBooks Online. It provides resources so you can explore and set up your business needs.

Let me know if you need additional information about merging accounts. I'll be around to help you.

Mary, the link you sent says, "If you see the Explore QuickBooks Online plans, select it to start the upgrade." Is this gonna move (merge) the self-employed data to the existing Simple start account, or it will direct us to sign up for another simple start account for an upgrade?

Thank you for participating in the feed, @Test2Go.

Let me tell you what will happen if you click on the Explorer QuickBooks Online plan in your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account. Thus, you'll be guided accordingly.

Selecting the Explore QuickBooks Online plans button will direct you to sign up for another simple start account. Here's how the page looks like:

If you want to merge or move your QBSE to your existing QuickBooks Online (QBO) Simple Start, I'd recommend doing the manual process. You can click the article provided by Maryland above for the complete steps.

Additionally, after you transfer your data, you have an option to cancel your QBSE subscription. Thus, you don't have to pay a monthly subscription to that account.

@MichelleBh , thank you for your reply. I think I get it now. I cannot merge an existing Simple start and a Self-employed account, but I can download my transactions from self-employed and import them into Simple start.

Do I need to keep my subscription for Quickbooks Online Simple Start to keep accepting credit card/debit card and ACH payments?

Regarding, I have opened invoices - would unsubscribing effect my merchant account to accept credit card/debit card and ACH payments as before?

Hi, @emericaskate0707

It's my pleasure to help you today.

Your merchant account won't get cancel if you choose to cancel your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

But if you prefer canceling your QBO account, you can follow these steps:

To cancel your account:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and choose Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Billing & Subscription tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks section, click Cancel Subscription or Cancel Online.
  4. Select Continue to cancel.
  5. Follow the next steps.
  6. Click Submit and cancel subscription.
  7. Hit Got it.

If you need help performing any merchant tasks, the following link contains a list of our self-help articles. These resources will guide you on how to handle each process in QBO: Payments feature.

I've also included a couple helpful articles, if you need future reference.
