Join nowThis is probably a web-cache issue, Mark101. I'm here to help you fix it.
We have a few steps to do to resolve this. Let's start with opening QuickBooks Self-Employed using an incognito window. This is the best place to isolate web issues. If you're able to delete a tag, go back to the main browser, then clear the cache. This helps refresh the system and avoids any unexpected behavior.
Additionally, you can use a different browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
You can keep us updated after trying the recommended steps. We're here for you.

There is no way to delete tags because the tags tool does not work. It should not be available to paying customers since it's (bad) workaround to being able to create your own categories (for those on he Self Employed plan where this feature is not available). But I digress.
I had to call to get it turned off, which is really the only recourse, since the tool doesn't work.
You cannot edit tags. TO TURN OFF TAGS
1. Go to the GEAR.
2. Under "About you" click on LABS (NEW).
3. Find the "Tagging" category and click the "Turn It Off" green button.
4. Click the "Give Feedback" button and tell QB to fix the tagging option, and tell them to make categories customizable for the self employed plans.
