Hi. I logged into a customer today and was very unpleasantly surprised to find that QBO had downloaded new bank transactions (good) but also took the liberty of deciding where each of them should go (bad--they got every single one wrong) and recording them to the bank. I prefer to review downloaded transactions and approve / change them on a one-by-one basis. How can I change this? I don't have to deal with this for other clients.
They don't. I set up the books and these are the first imported transactions. QBO did this all by itself. It classed EVERYTHING classed as a "software store" to one expense account (everything from R&D to G&A to a freaking computer purchase) and as I went through and corrected each item, it updated all of the succeeding transactions to match it. I couldn't find any rule for "Software Store", unless it's hidden?
Let me share some information about downloading bank transactions into your account, @CFOSecrets.
I've checked here on our end and there's no reported case about this one. It's possible that the Remember category selection and Show suggested rules is turned on when downloading the bank data. You can turn off this option in the Banking page.
Here's how:

Thanks for chiming in on this thread, @mrea. It gives me great pleasure to share information about the automatic recording of imported bank transactions.
You may have set up Bank rules when the system seems to auto-categorize your transactions. We can review them from the Banking menu and disable or delete them to prevent automatically categorizing your downloaded transactions in QuickBooks Online. Here's how:
Otherwise, the Enable suggested categorization may be activated. You can also deactivate this feature by going to the Banking page and ticking the Gear icon. Here's how:
If you still find issues with QuickBooks Online assigning or adding categories to your transactions. I'd recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They can pull up your account within a secure environment and assist you further.

Was there a fix found for this bug? I am having the same issue. I found one thread that said using a different browser would fix it and it did for about a month but now it is doing it again on the new browser. If I have any banking transactions that I haven't recorded it auto records when I sign out. I do not have "auto record" turned on for any of my rules. This started in July 2024.
