Making an account inactive will only hide the register from the Chart of Accounts and disable it for online banking. However, it will not delete all past transactions that were previously added in the program, because the system will use it for reporting. This is to ensure the financial data is accurate for year end reports and tax filing.
If you need to delete all the data, you will need to do it one at a time. You can also find handy bulk deleter apps from our Intuit App website using these steps:

Thank you for the quick response. I do not want to delete the data - still want it to appear in reports.
If the inactive account data remains, essentially all terminated employee cards could be marked 'inactive' once coded, correct? Are there any downstream issues with doing this?
Thank you for the quick response. I do NOT want to delete the old data since those were expenses needed for the P&L.
If inactive account transactions are still viewable, all terminated employees could be marked "Inactive" once their final transactions are coded. Is there a reason not to do this?

You'll have the option to make your account inactive. However, let's make sure that you don't use that bank account for some of your transactions.
