Is the transaction in your bank feed? Do you have a screenshot?

Welcome and thank you for posting here in the Community, @isaachm.

To give you the right amount of information and assist you further, may I know what specific area and transaction you're working with QuickBooks while you're asked to select an account even if you've already entered an account name?

It's possible that you've chosen the incorrect account reason that you're asked to select an account again. Make sure to select the correct account when creating transactions. If you're creating a check, select an expense account, if you're creating a bill, you can either select expense or accounts payable and so on.

However, if you're referring to something else, feel free to add a comment below. Have a good day!

Where do I select the account?

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, stoutlaw.

To verify my understanding, which type of transaction are you working with? If you have a screenshot you can provide, this can also help show what you're trying to accomplish.

Most transactions have an Account drop-down list where you can specify an account if necessary. For example, when creating/editing expense transactions, there's a Payment account drop-down list which can be used to select an account.

I'll be looking forward to your reply. Have an awesome day!

I am currently having the same problem. I can't save my journal entry because of it.

Welcome to the thread, @Lacylay81. Let me help you save journal entries in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When creating a journal entry, it needs to have an account for the debit and credit accounts so you won't encounter an error "Select an account for this transaction."

Then, ensure that the amount has the same total balance in the Credit column on one line and the Debit column on the other. For more details on making a journal entry, see this article: Create journal entries in QuickBooks Online.

For future reference, here's a great resource about the best practices when reconciling: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. I'll be standing by for your response. Have a great day.

I have done everything on the journal page I can possibly think of. Nothing is working. My debits and credits at the end match. I just don't know...

Thank you for coming back to this thread, @Lacylay81.

I appreciate your effort to make everything works in creating your journal entry. But first, I'll just want to make sure before you save the Journal Entry you created did you put an account to it? Since this is an important part of the journal entry.

You can refer to the screenshot below as a reference to what I mean:

If you already did this, then let's perform some basic troubleshooting to see if this is a browser-related concern.

The initial step is to access your QBSE account via incognito mode. This does not store cache files that may cause odd behaviors when running web-based programs. Below are the shortcut keys you can use:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +N

If this works, clear the cache of your regular browser to eliminate piled-up data. If the issue persists, you can use another supported browser or device. Might be that the current one you're using has a temporary issue with the program.

If you have additional questions, never hesitate to route back yourself here. Keep safe!
