Why was import styles removed form labs? This is an immensely useful feature with no other workaround unless you happened to turn the feature on before 6/29/21.

Without it, there is no other way to customize the rigid forms in QBO.

Thanks for getting back to this thread, @mricheson-riches. Let me chime in and provide further details about the import style option in QuickBooks Online.

The Import Styles feature was disabled Last July 1st. Any company that has not enabled Import Styles from QB Labs after 6/24/2021 will no longer be able to enable it. Any existing QBO companies with the feature are currently not affected and will continue to have access. In the future, there are plans to completely remove this feature from all QBO companies.

Alternatively, we still have some great templates you can make use of when customizing your invoice. You can utilize the footer options and used other spaces for things like signatures. Otherwise, you can look for 3rd party apps to create your own invoices templates.

If you need further details, feel free to contact our support team once they are available.

Additionally, let me attach this resource to help you personalize and add specific info to sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to get back to us if you have other questions about import style in QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you again. Stay safe and take care.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps, mricheson-riches.

The Import style option is already added in the Custom forms styles page of the system. You don't have to turn it on in the QuickBooks Labs page. Let me show you how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Custom form styles.
  3. At the upper-right, click the New style drop-down and you'll see the Import style option.

If you're still unable to see a way to import your own template, we can perform a few browser troubleshooting steps. There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed internet resources, thus causing websites, like QuickBooks Online to respond weirdly. You can try logging into your QBO account using a private browser to verify if the missing option is caused by a browser-related issue.

To use a private browser, here's how:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If this works, you can clear your browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result, I recommend switching to a different browser.

Thanks Catherine, unfortunately, I was unable to see "Import style" under the "New style" menu.  I tried in private browsing (Chrome) and in a different browser (Edge) with a cleared history.  No luck in either.

Thanks @Rubielyn_J.  That is what I am understanding as well.  This is the first I am hearing that there are future plans to remove the feature completely.  I was hoping it would get moved labs into a core feature, but sounds like it is going the opposite direction and moving out of labs and disappearing completely :(

Unfortunately, the current customization options for invoices don't meet our needs because we need to hide the subtotal, tax, shipping, etc from the footer and just show the Balance Due.  We are also looking to hide the "T" from the table items if they are taxable.  From what I can gather this could have been possible with the "Import styles" feature.

As you mentioned, without the "Import styles" feature, we are going to have to look at 3rd party apps to support our needs.  Which unfortunately means invoices in QBO are pretty useless for us.

Thanks for your help though.  Sad that QBO is slowly drifting away from our needs.  As we have to subscribe to other tools to make up the gaps in QBO, its gets harder to justify paying for QBO when we can only use it for a sliver of what it is intended to be capable of.

Dear QBO Team,

This decision would be easier to accept if only there was some way within QBO to simply change (or remove/include) the line: "Accepted By / Accepted Date". You give us the ability to alter every other part of the Estimate template, why not this part? It's so incredibly annoying.

We can't do work for customers without a contract. Signed bids are not sufficient. Having a place for the customer to sign just makes the customer think they need to do that. It's a wasted effort / step.

All I want to do is remove that line. It should be a tick box option on the Form Styles editor. It's pretty unbelievable to me that QBO doesn't offer this option. And, no, I have no desire to go pay some 3rd party app a monthly fee to do something so small that should be a simple, core feature right within QBO.

Could you please give some context on WHY Intuit has chosen to make that line unchangeable? Wouldn't it be easy for your engineers to change your core template to allow this?

Those are really far from "great templates" a child could design better.

If you remove the ability to import word documents from QBO I am closing my relationship with QB.  I am sick to fecking death of you people rolling out good features and then rescinding them.  GET THIS FIXED, I WANT THE CHAIRMAN TO CALL ME IN THE NEXT HOUR.  You have been warned.

I wish I could make it better, @websolprov.

I can certainly understand how reinstating the Import Styles feature could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today. Requests from other customers, like you, through this channel, helps our engineers improve the software to offer the best services based on your business needs. You can do so by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter a few words describing how you wish to use the payment link for statements.
  4. Click Next.

On top of that, I've also included this reference helpful with the latest articles about the enhancements made recently: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.

For more details, check out this link: How to Submit Feedback.

We still have great templates available in QuickBooks Online you can make use of when customizing your own forms.

Please, Please offer greater customizeability to invoice, estimates, and statements!! QBO templates are completely inadequate. QBO designs are unprofessional and inflexible. Fields show up that cannot be removed. Customization options are primitive. I cannot keep my company branding with QBO.

We are a construction contractor. We cannot start a job without a signed contract including the invoice. Yet QBO offers NO option for adding a contract or signature field to the invoices. Come on!! When will you act?

I hear your sentiments, @Teacher_Man.

I can certainly see how much of a difference it would make for companies like yours if we can customize and personalize our sales forms the way we want them to be.

Like you, I am eagerly anticipating the availability of this feature. You are being heard, and our product engineers are fully aware of this. I just want to let you know that a new feature will go through extensive measures to ensure that it is fully functional before being implemented that's why we're unable to provide as to when this will be available. No worries, once a new update will be released you'll be notified through email.

If you haven't submitted your own feedback, I'd recommend sending one so you'll be added to the list of users to want to have the availability of this feature. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague above or refer to this article so you'll also have access to our new product feature releases: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.

With regard to adding signatures to your invoices, you may utilize the Attachment field on the Invoice page to insert a signature image to your invoices.

Another option is to use a third-party application that supports this feature. You may check out one through the Appstore.

Additionally, I've included an article that you may find helpful in case you'll want to split an estimate into as many invoices as you need: Set up and send progress invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Fill me in if you have more queries about managing your sales forms in QBO. I'd be glad to assist you further. Take care.

I agree.  Why would you remove options???  QB templates are not what our company wants to use.  Our invoices and estimates are a reflection on our company.  To be forced to use them is upsetting.  Please let me know if you ever put that option back into your software.  Thank you for listening.

Thanks for getting involved with this thread, Lori944.

If you had your Import Styles feature enabled in QuickBooks Labs before 6/25/2021, it will still be accessible and usable in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon.
  2. Go to Custom form styles.
  3. Click New style.
  4. Select Import style.

  5. Upload your DOCX file and follow the presented steps.

In the event it wasn't enabled before 6/25/2021, you won't be able to turn it on. If you'd like to submit feedback about the option to enable Import Styles being removed from QuickBooks Labs, you can use the steps in AbegailS_'s post to submit it to our Product Development team. Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Thursday!

Your response tends to blame the customer for not knowing back in 2021 that I was going to need to upload new custom forms in 2023.  I am not responsible for your company's decision to take away options that are needed.  This is not the first time you've done this to us.  If anybody asks me what accounting software to use, you can be sure it won't be QB!

I want to edit a template like in the desktop version. Just give me the fields and I will lay them out. This seems very simple. The online version is terrible compared to the desktop version. And that was never great. Do you list to suggestions??

You don't listen to customer feedback at all I've submitted hundreds of requests on the feedback system and never ever got a reply I've escalated matters to the board of directors and got told by some snotty nose cow that she didn't want to talk about it anymore. Constantly suggesting that people use the feedback system is a waste of time and you're talking out of your behind.

For years, I have been so annoyed by making suggestions to tech support representatives who then ask me to send a feedback request. It's basically like saying "Hey, thanks for your good idea of how we could make our product better. Can you please do the data entry for us? Just type up what you just told me." Personally, I feel as though that should be THEIR job, not mine. They should have a feature suggestion database and record votes in it. There would be millions of votes by now for editable forms. The ones they have now and the so-called editing tools are abysmal. Their receipt is a complete joke.

Totally agree, and then whoever is managing the feedback request don't even bother to get back to you. The entire process is sh*t, to say the least.

The board of directors or in particular snotty nose cow that I interacted with, are a waste of space.
