Hi there, @jrm08.
We can repair your QuickBooks to fix program-related issues like this.

Once done, restart your computer. Then, open the sample file once again.

Thanks for your suggestions ... but even after additionally using the Tools Hub, issue not resolved. It took literally over 5 hours on phone with Support to resolve.
Can you tell us what they said that fixed the issue?
Just installed QB 2020 and it crashes just before finishing downloading both and either service based and products based businesses.
Have to keep ending program in Windows Task Manager because it is 'Not responding'.
Crashed when trying to finish downloading either of the 2 sample files, then also crashes when I click on either of the 2 sample files in download folder.
Wasted all day on this sorry program.

I want to make sure this gets taken care of. Aside from the troubleshooting steps shared by my colleague @BettyJane above, this issue with downloading sample company file can be fix using these additional options:
The error may be caused by a broken application. We can try uninstalling Quickbooks and reinstall it using a Clean Install.
Here's how:
Once completed, run the Clean install tool before installing QuickBooks.
When running the clean install please select the correct version of Quickbooks that you are using.
Once done, proceed to reinstalling QuickBooks. Make sure you have your license number and the product number handy to complete the installation.
For additional troubleshooting options, you can visit this article: Fix QuickBooks Desktop install errors.
As always, you can reach back to me if you have other questions. I'd be happy to help. Wishing you all the best.
Sample company crashes Quickbooks Pro 2013 every time. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling. In my company file that otherwise behaves correctly, I can't open a register on any account. This started about a week ago and I see from others with different versions that this is common in the last week. I have run the Quickbooks Desktop File Doctor and the Quickbooks Tool Hub. I got it to open a register in an account after one of those, but now even after running those apps, I can't get it to open a register on any account.
