undo reconciliation on unconnected account

I have an account that was reconciled prior account closure, but there was an error made and the reconciliation adjustment is incorrect.  As the account is closed, it is no longer "connected" to the bank, and so the option to "reconcile" (and thereby undo the reconciliation) is not available.  How do I get rid of the reconciliation transaction?  And then, how do I reconcile an account that is closed  and cannot be connected to the bank (this is critical, as we have a second account that is not yet reconciled, and it will be closed at the bank before the reconciliation will be complete)

Hi, @dLearned

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’ve got you some steps here on how to adjust your reconciliation without reconnecting to the bank.

Here’s how:

1.Tick Accounting from the left navigation bar, then choose Chart of Accounts.

2.Go to View register.

3.Look for the transaction and change R (reconcile) to C (cleared).
4.Hit Yes to approve the changes
5.You can do the same procedure for you next transaction.

I’ve got you this article to help you fix issues for the accounts you’ve reconciled in the past.

Thank you for posting a reply here in the Community, @dLearnedLet me help you undo a reconciliation adjustment.

Here's how to delete reconciliation adjustments:

  1. Go to the Accounting on the left pane and choose Reconcile.
  2. Click History by Account on the upper right corner.
  3. View report of the reconciliation.
  4. Look for adjustments and click the associated amount.
  5. Click more and select Delete.
  6. Click Yes  to confirm.

To manually undo reconciled transactions, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Locate the account holding the transactions, then select View register
  4. Select the transaction you want to un reconcile to expand the view.
  5. Review the check column. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “R.”
  6. Select the checkbox and it will go from "R" to "C".
  7. Select Save.
  8. Close the account register.

Check out this article for additional information: Undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.

If you need to completely start over, reach out to your accountant. Only accountants can undo entire reconciliations.

Thank you for your response.  Sadly, I wish that there was a way to get back to the "reconcile" as it was before (tick boxes rather than having to click-change-save for multiple transactions), but I guess it is better than nothing
