I hope the moron that suggested removing the scanner feature was fired, and they put a scanner option BACK !! What they heck sort of accounting software doesn't have a scanning feature ?!?!?! The suggetion is to whip out your phone, somehow scan several pages of work documents with your personal devise (assuming you figured out how to link to your company's files remotely) ?? Way easier to just keep the scanner app on my desktop, and drag and drop.... but still doubles the amount of work when attaching receipts to everything.
The overall vote hear appears to be Intuit screwed up royally on this one.
I am not happy at all about the discontinuation of the scan capabilities in Enterprise 2024. Some of my invoices are mailed and now I have to scan them to my computer first to add them to my transactions. Quick Books is getting worse and we are paying more to use it! i think we are going to look for other options for our accounting.
I cannot have my employees having company documents on their personal mobile devices. This is business common sense!!!

Yes you should start exploring ERPs as the replacement. You can use the trial version of QB Desktop to access your historical data for good. Then you will start from scratch in an ERP to lower your conversion costs.
Well guess what, you have to upgrade or your other things like customers paying with credit card, or sending out invoices from intuit will not work. I upgraded yesterday and lost the scan function and can honestly say this sucks for people who scan more than just a receipt! I used to scan contracts, bills, bank statements, credit card statements, etc. Who wants to scan 30 or more pages 1 at a time and have to name them all separately with a page number on the end? NOT ME! Intuit has definitely gone backwards on this!
I agree 1000% I use scan manager all day every day and I do not understand why they are taking away that feature and forcing us to upgrade out of the 2021 version where we can still use scan manager this is extremely upsetting and I’m not sure how I’m going to be able to do what I need to do now that I won’t be able to use it
For anyone new to this thread, it was discontinued because the company who supplied the scanning software, Nuance, sold to Microsoft, and QB in their finite wisdom, instead of giving their users a replacement, came up with this other option of snapping photos. To which we are all supposed to jump up and down and clap our hands at this absurd idea and call it good? But I digress,
I am stuck with QB because I have other custom written third party apps that integrate into QB in order to manage our business, so here's the work around until you find another option.
Set up one folder for all your scans. Most scanners can be directed to scan to a specific folder. Drag your scans from that dedicated QB Folder, to the attachment area in QB. At best its a few extra clicks, but you will eventually create your own rhythm while you plot to change over to more user friendly software
Cheers!
Lordway, please have your spirit pray that QB get's a new bright idea like adding the scan manager back.
Same issues in online version. If I don't save it to my computer it creates a new transaction. When my bank feed comes in, the scanned transaction has the attachment, but the bank feed has no attachment.
Hello, Marie.
Moreover, for future help, you can also check this article to help you manage your online transactions: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Your first mistake...using QB online. It's awful, IMO.
Thankfully, the software does not just stop functioning (or so I have been told). There will just be no new updates, and you can not call in for tech support should something stop working. I am keeping my v21 until it dies, as the quantity of scans I need to do into transactions would be inefficient and time consuming to scan to a location, and then hope it gets added to the correct transaction (let alone having those documents on someone's personal device).
Unfortunately, I was forced to update from QuickBooks Enterprise 2021 to 2024 because I was warned that if I continue to use Version 2021, my payroll and merchant services will stop working after May 01, 2024.
Now scanning has become a big issue for all our employees and myself. It is taking twice the time to scan documents on the local drive and then move to QB. Many times, we make mistakes by moving the wrong documents from the local drive to QB.
Intuit's policy sucks!!!
Thankfully, with careful planning, we have moved away from their integrated services for this very reason! My ADP exports a great iif file I import for payroll just fine!
Lydia:
We have QB Enhanced as well as QB Payroll. I am sick of them raising the prices for both each year - while taking away features such as the Scan Manager. I am contemplating having a third party do our payroll but am concerned about having all the reports I need to be somehow implemented with QB. Does ADP do this for you?
Thank you!

Haresh,
You were so lucky to keep Version 2021 for so long. I think I had to upgrade in 2022. Scanning still sucks even after two years.
When I click "add attachment" it brings up my computer files, not the receipts that I scanned in. This is defeating the purpose of scanning in documents and exporting them to quickbooks. All this does is take up storage space on my computer. So I am going back manually entering the data AND keeping paper receipts.
Well now I can not even open the documents I attached in QB's. This is ridiculous. Intuit is literally blocking me from being able to open my documents. I am getting an error message saying "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page."
I just spoke with customer service and she hung up while trying to fix the issue. No call back, nothing.
What is wrong with this company?
Sharon8975 - I too went through the very frustration that you are experiencing now. We gave up and moved on to SAP, a much more expensive program that our parent company runs. We could have stayed with QB but things like you are experiencing made it difficult. I hope that someone with resources sues Intuit if they can prove unfair business practices.
Hey there, @Sharon8975.
This isn't the kind of impression we'd want you to experience in QuickBooks Desktop. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to help you open your files.
First, could you provide more details about the error you're encountering? This will help us identify the issue and offer the appropriate solution.
Here are some possible reasons for the error when opening your attached documents:
To address the error message, ensure that install QuickBooks Desktop is installed on your computer. If you already do, try performing a clean install to refresh the system.
Next, let's check if your Windows is up-to-date to prevent this type of error. Here's how:
While the Scan Manager feature is unavailable, you can continue attaching documents using the mobile app. We understand this requires extra steps, but it’s the best alternative for now.
Please note that QuickBooks Desktop supports PDFs and images with JPEG, JPG, GIF, or PNG format. If you have HEIC format images, you can convert them to a compatible format.
Feel free to comment below if you have any follow-up questions about opening your attached documents in QuickBooks. I'm here to help.
I do not attach files using my cell phone because I do not have a company cell phone and I am forbidded to take photos of company files on my personal phone. You people have really messed with all your customers who utilize attached documents.
I cannot believe you people think taking photos of paper is any sort of replacement for scanning. I smack my head every time I read about having to "take a photo" of paperwork to attach to files. I enter hundreds of invoices a day and some of these invoices include upwards of 60 pages of back up paperwork that are potentially helpful when looking up information. There is NO TIME to line these pages up and snap picture of them..."best alternative" my rear end!
I agree with you completely. I have a part-time employee; this person is data entry, she enters and scans bills, credit card entries, etc. I have 2 scanners and it worked very well. Our company does not supply a company phone to her, really, download the mobile app and do all the additional steps!?
You are so correct, the change to QB is a giant leap backwards, so inefficient.
I totally agree with everyone upset over scan manager being removed..
it is now a longer process for those of us sitting at our desks …. I don’t want to have to have my phone to take a picture of an invoice in my hand that I can easily scan into a check? You are making it harder and more time-consuming to do my job, you eliminated one thing and added an additional step takes longer and is inconvenient. Put it back where it belongs so those of us who want to get our jobs done efficiently can move forward and stop wasting time
