I completely agree with you.  The "work around" is actually better than the old scan manager. Personally, I'd rather stay with QB Premier Plus than have to go to QBO.  Tried it for about 2-3 weeks and NO BUENO...Seriously the worst of any accounting software I've ever encountered.  I hope to be retired by the time they force to all QBO.

I've heard nightmare stories from others who switched to QBO and regretted it.

Desktop Enterprise is a very good investment, for what its worth.

Let's hang on to our own data for as long as we can, IDK about anyone else, but I do not want my companies data in the cloud.

It is never coming back.  They must have saved a bundle of money when they stopped the scanning software.

Yep saved money on scanning than tripled the price of QB, they made out like bandits while the user suffers, gotta love it.

In the end, if you don't like Intuit's business practices and their treatment of customers, then you should leave the platform.  I did but keep a single user license to access the archives.  We already know they don't care about those customers who have complained about the deletion of Scan Manager, otherwise they would have properly addressed the matter.  If they ever did, I don't recall seeing it.

I agree but seems easier said than done. What did you go to might I ask?

I have checked into some others but they all seem to have some issue or another. The other thing that ties us down is QB is what our CPA can use and import.

I am using desktop since Quickin 1 when it first came out.  The online still to this day can't do thing I really need. Especially Memorized Transactions. We have hundreds of those that go out automatically every month. Also we don't trust QBs to do anything with taxes. We just dump information and take it from there.  Oh well, not sure where it is all going. But happy you like my work-a-round

Soon, I am thinking scanning will be the least of your worries.

AI will be taking all these jobs, and if you think about it, scanning will not be needed.

Anything requiring human intervention will be undesirable.

I believe some credit cards already upload receipts without human effort.

How long do you think it will be until it attaches the documents during an update?

Banks, and other platforms, will begin tracking all of your deposits.

It is time to get another skill, or be thankful to be at retirement age.

Instead of leaving QuickBooks, if people are dead set on that, just keep 2021, get a different payroll and credit card service.

I am thinking we have 2 to 3 years on the outside.

I did but keep a single user license to access the archives.

You can use the trial version for good to access your historical data.

Having confidential company documents on an employee's mobile device is unacceptable. I am being forced to switch from QuickBooks 2021 to the latest version of QuickBooks Enterprise Edition, which does not support scanners.  I wish I had known this when I first started using QuickBooks.

@Haresh - Reefseeker has an easy work around. We shouldn't have to do a work around, but we're all stuck.

Just create a folder that you send all your QB scans to - name and save the document and then slide it right over into QB - pretty easy.

This is very inconvenient. Instead of scanning directly into my QuickBooks desktop, it becomes a three-step operation. Why was the scanner support discontinued?

No one seems to believe me, but I have verified that Nuance who was the imaging software company, sold to Microsoft and that's when QB discontinued and did not replace the scanning software and left us stuck with the stupid idea that we're going to sit here and take photos of documents.

When QB first started allowing scanning and attaching documents, they used to charge for it. Then it became free. Now it's gone.

Before when they were charging, I was using a program called Sourcelink. It's still available...you can scan directly into QB with it, but no one wants to pay for it...

I can see how relevant and convenient it is to scan receipts and documents to attach them efficiently to your transactions, Haresh.

As QuickBooks commits to developing straightforward financial tools and features, updates of the QuickBooks Scan Manager to Attached Documents have been established to improve compatibility with the program. This ability continues to help you scan documents using mobile devices and import them into your company file.

With the recent update feature, this can still be used in previous, currently supported QuickBooks Desktop versions. Please know that we value and prioritize your overall experience, and I would greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as work towards improving the program.

For now, you may continue utilizing the QuickBooks Desktop mobile app and snap documents to your account. You can then add them to your invoices, purchase orders, or other transactions. Feel free to visit this reference for additional information: Attach documents to transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

I've also collected these resources that you can use for guidance and to streamline your daily accounting tasks:

This thread is always available for any additional queries when managing files and transactions in your account. Just reply to this post, and I'll be around whenever you need further help. Stay safe.

Lordway1, I will continue to suffer but NEVER in silence.  Discontinuing Scan Manager has been a thorn in many sides and I am not willing to be silent.  I stand for the little people who is forced to use a work around because QB's decided to save money and reap the rewards for their fatter bottomline.

Most companies will not allow employees to have company documents on their mobile devices. I am figuring out what Intuit was thinking by replacing the scanner with a mobile phone.  This must be the most irresponsible

decision Intuit has made.

I may have left the QB platform but I am with you in spirit. Intuit is failing on a few levels with this one.  If the CEO isn't willing to hold accountable those responsible, it will then fall to the board which in all likelihood won't do a thing.  The only events that will get their attention will be declining subscriptions and bad press. Quite possibly, us Scan Manager users simply don't count for much in the grand scheme.

Since I no longer can scan directly into QB's, this is how I set up my work around.  The main folder is called Scanner.  Then I set up sub-folders which are named according to document type.  For instance, my first folder is called Purchase Orders.  I scan all handwritten PO's that I attach to the QB's computer generated Purchase order. Each scanned file is named the Purchase Order Number.  No sub-folders are needed.  My next File Folder is called Bills which I did set up sub-folders.  Each Sub-folder is named our Vendor name and the scanned file is named the Invoice number.  My next Folder is called International Customers with sub-folders.    I attached what it looks like for you. My scanned documents are all organized and easy to find so I can attach to QB's.

Dear FateCandylaneT

All respect here but you are pouring gas on a fire.  You are making people here even crazier.  You clearly do not understand the issue or use Quickbooks in a real business yourself. Using a mobile device to scan is ridiculous for many of us. I scan at least 30 to 40 checks a day for each deposit. Then attach those scans to each deposit. Can't you see how ridiculous that would be to take that many pictures, save them, upload them to a PC and then attach them?  This is just one of many things we all do.  I read everyone's post here. We are all on the same page but QBs is not.  I am using a work around but not everyone seems to embrace this change.

All the best

Carl

OMG, you don't get it.  Documents on employees personal phones is NOT ACCEPTABLE.  Besides, if an employer forces an employee to use his/her own phone, then the employer is by law expected to pay for that phone.  Secondly, most QB users that scan, does not just scan a few documents.  Some scanned 100's to 1000's.  Get your head out of the sand and hear your customers.

I realize I am late to the party but I am so confused and disappointed about this scanning discontinuation.  I've been avoiding my upgrade from 2021 Enterprise to 2024 because of this issue but QB's is no longer supporting payroll 2021 after May so I am forced to upgrade.   I scan everything and although I can still attach docs - it literally will take five times longer!

Always thought QB's was a "moving forward" company - not a company of regression.  Very disappointed!

However, I hate being forced to do such a work around.  It is extremely time consuming.  I just hope what I posted helps some of you.
