I am having the same issue and so are my employees. The software is checking the wrong box. On top of that, the check mark is not even close to the actual box (my printer alignment is perfect). THE PROGRAM is the problem, not the user. Please let support know they need to fix!!
Best regards,
Ben, CPA

The IRS added an additional box on the line with the 1096-MISC and 1099-NEC to the 1096 Form and that is why the printer is not matching up with the box.
This issue does not appear resolved. I just went through the update procedure and it did not correct the alignment of the "X" for marking 1096 NEC. the "X" still prints in the 1096 MISC box, but below the checkbox...
the issue is not resolved...
I went through the described update process and the "X" is still appearing in the 1096-MISC box and not in the 1096 NEC box as it should.
