2020 NJ W-3/W-2 filing With Qbooks

Let me share more info about the submission of NJ W2 & W3, Amara2.

The e-filing of NJ W2 & W3 is still unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. Although, you can e-file these forms through the agency website. You can follow the State of New Jersey's instructions on how to file them.

We also provide a signature-ready form to be printed, signed, and mailed to the tax agency. Please check these links for the detailed steps:

If the option to e-file these forms to the state of NJ will be available, it'll be included automatically on the payroll update.

Keep your posts coming if you need anything else. Take care!

This is the most irrational, uninformed response I've seen on this thread.

Hey AlexV before you wrote "We also provide a signature-ready form to be printed, signed, and mailed to the tax agency. Please check these links for the detailed steps:"  did you even read this thread.

The entire issue - THE ENTIRE ISSUE - is because it is ILLEGAL to send in printed, mailed form.  Mailing printed forms is banned by New Jersey.  Mailed forms will be discarded, the taxpayer will not be in compliance and will be assessed penalties.

That Quickbooks has thrice repeated customers should mail in forms must create a legal liability for your company.

What you have dodged answering - and what Quickbooks dodges - is why after being told nearly two years ago, with the specifications required for Quickbooks to relay the data, and Quickbooks already e-filing other state forms, you've refused to provide this capability.  The easiest answer is you ignored it.

Your response is terrible

Quickbook's handling of this situation is terrible.

I don't understand how we can be more clear unless we write it in Crayon. You can't submit a paper file to NJ (period). It must be done via their website using AXWAY or another method that you (QB) comes up with. Again just to put it out there,  NOBODY CAN SUBMIT A PAPER FILE TO NJ FOR YEAR END W2'S.

Thanks All and Stay Safe.

I just want to say how disgusted I am with QuickBooks right now.  I have been a huge fan of QB since the DOS version.  NEVER have I been disappointed in the product until now.  Every year the cost of the program goes up and for what?  Apparently they need to hire some different egg heads to figure out how to e-file W2s in NJ.  I used a dinky little on-line program for another company I do payroll for (because payroll through QuickBooks is way too expensive for a small company with only 3 employees) and they are able to e-file W2s in NJ.  Why can QuickBooks, a leader in the industry, do it????

We're on a time crunch here.  Monday is the deadline.  I've been waiting for QB to get their act together as I had received an email assuring me that I would be able to E-file through the program.  Yesterday I got another email saying that I can do it and when I go to my program I get a "worksheet" that does nothing for me.  I have 101 W2s.  Even if I sigh up for AXWAY, I don't see a way to get the needed file to send to them (and don't tell me to create a payroll summary!).  NJ customers need answers NOW!

So, I was able to get the W2/W3 filings for NJ by making sure I have the most up to date payroll updates (version 02041013).  Then, I needed to go from the file payroll forms screen, there is a link at the bottom to "Change Filing Method".  Click on the "Filing Methods" link on the left.  You should see in the list "Federal Form W-2/W-3".  Select that, and hit the edit button.  Make sure filing method is listed as e-file, then select finish.  If you then click on the enrollments link, you should now see NJ State W2, NJ State W3 within the list.  Hit finish and you should now be able to efile the NJ W2/W3's.

JNNJR is correct. The forms are there now in Payroll Center > File Forms. I think this QB update was pushed through yesterday as I did notice there was an update for NJ. I did not, however, receive an email from QB notifying of the new capability even as they promised to keep us updated.

Today is 2/11/2021. I was on the phone with Payroll support for over an hour. They have no clue.

What are we supposed to do?

Thanks for posting here today, @mohit3.

As mentioned by my colleague @AlexV, while this is unavailable in QBDT, you can file it directly on the state website.

Please check out these links below to guide you along the way:

Additionally, here's a link that covers all tasks you can do when using the payroll feature.

Keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns with payroll. I'll be around to help. Take care and stay safe.

This just a rehash of all the information that has been supplied since January when NJ customer began complaining.  Yes, I know I can enter the information on the State's website - that's my issue!  I will have to manually enter all 101 W2's.  The possibility of errors is huge!  Under the "File your state w-2s with QB Desktop" link NJ is not one of the states.  The state instructions say I have to e-file and tell me the file format I need, which is the same as the one that goes to the SS Admin.  Why can't I just access that file?  I've seen other posts where people have tried to send a file to AXWAY and their file has been rejected.

Again, Quickbooks dodges the real issue.

First, Quickbooks advised people to mail in these forms (it's illegal) claiming the software printed out the necessary form to sign and print (it doesn't).  If customers followed this advice they'd be out of compliance and face fines.  Quickbooks repeated this at least three times in this forum.

Second, Quickbooks said "well, you can go and file yourself" (advice repeated here by ShiellaGraceA).  Well technically true, this ignores (a) customers pay Quickbooks for the efiling capacity and (b) filing online using the state site requires each W3 be typed by hand - employers with more than a handful of employees will need hours to do this.

Third, and most importantly, ShiellaGraceA and her colleagues continue to dodge the real issue here.  New Jersey announced this e-file requirement two years ago and published the technical data for payroll providers to comply.  Quickbooks already e-files all other state forms, so why did this one not get included?  Because, simply, Quickbooks ignored it and now wants to dump the responsibility on customers.  Further, Quickbooks refuses to state when this will be fixed, who is working on it, or provide any method by which customers can know when it is fixed.

Quickbooks employees, stop posting replies that are covered in paragraph one or two above, and start providing real answers as to when Quickbooks will fix this problem you ignored for two years.  Two flipping years.

I see the forms in QB but there is no option for e-file. It only shows option to Print.

Thanks, jnnjr! I followed your directions and was able to e-file my NJ W-3/W-2s! It wasn't intuitive, because the screen "Renew your filing methods" only listed the Federal Forms. But then when I proceeded to review my agency enrollments, I saw that NJ W-2  and W-3 and was listed. I went back to create form and now the efile button was functional, and I could efile.

Hello again, mohit3. I appreciate you getting back and providing a screenshot.

As mentioned by my colleagues above, right now, the option to e-file the 2020 NJ W2 & W3 in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is unavailable.

Based on your attached screenshot, it appears that the option to e-file the said form is limited to the approved software providers only. Thus, we recommend printing the form and manually file it outside the system.

You may also file directly on the New Jersey Division of Revenue On-Line Filing site. For a complete list of New Jersey contacts, visit the New Jersey Web site.

Here's are also some links which you may find helpful:

If you have questions about users or any other QuickBooks topic, please don't hesitate to let me know. Have a great day.

So please someone at QB just tell us the end story. If we are not able to upload them as we can on the QBO version and I have to enter 252 W2's to NJ's website, which I can do, I would like to know ASAP. If I do this it's going to take hours and cause my client large expenses. I'm sure QB is not going to cover that so I won't even bring that up.

I think we all deserve a straight answer from QB if it will be done by end of February or NOT. That's it, period.

Same with MT. When you pay QBO to take care of your payroll, they should do just that. What are they doing and how can one find another company that will do what QBO is incapable of doing? I was told they will do electronic if you want to have your clients banking info out on the web - when they don't want it there to be hacked. It is just a way for them to do less & less and charge more. I for one am so sick of it. Spent 31/2 hours yesterday, told put the checking account up (so they make more money off your $) or do their job yourself. HA HA What do you get paid for???  Are you a payroll service anymore??
