Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

Hi there, @whdhglobal.

I'm here to provide insights on what are the actions that you're going to take if there are updates for your taxes in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you're referring to an executive order for any federal and state taxes, the system always ensures to comply with all the tax regulations of the agencies. That said, you can run the payroll update, so your tax table is up to date with the latest releases.

However, if you want to track the deferral for the Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act or record your deferral payments for Social Security tax payments, you'll need to create a payroll item for these entries.

To give you the complete details on how to do that, please see these resources below:

From there, you can select these items made when running paychecks for your employees.

Let me know if you're referring to something else or if you have any other questions. I'll make sure you're all set. Have a good one!

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

What payroll item do we use for Trump's payroll tax holiday?  Will QB's be updating that?

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

Thanks for following on this thread, trinebean.

Allow me to join the conversation and provide some information about Trump's payroll tax holiday.

We always make sure we’re compliant with the government’s policies. Our Payroll Compliance Team is working with the IRS about the setup process for the payroll item. When it’s available, we’ll include it to the payroll update.

To stay up to date about payroll news, check out the Latest payroll news and updates article. It provides the most current and accurate rates and calculations for supported state and federal tax tables, payroll tax forms, and e-file and pay options.

Reach out to me if you have any clarifications or other concerns about QuickBooks. I’ll be glad to help and make sure you’re taken care of. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

Can an employer opt out of this hoax, since it's not really legal anyway, and creates a possibly huge tax liability for employees and employers next year? Or are we waiting for IRS

clarification? Thanks!

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

I totally agree with opting out.  This is an absurd complication for our payroll and will expose us to unknown future liabilities.  Under no circumstances do we want to participate in this, unless the program is formally enacted into law thru the regular legislative process.

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

What if your employees do not want the deferral of the taxes? They are asking me to not defer as they don't want to be hit with a huge tax bill later. I certainly hope this is optional and not mandated... As an employer, I also do not want to defer the taxes and end up with an impossible tax bill later.

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

Employers/Employees want to be advised immediately if payroll tax deferrals are set to Automatic through Assisted Payroll.  And they want to know how to (hopefully simply!) opt-out of these deferrals!

As this is such a Hot Topic which applies to All your Assisted Payroll clients would you please have this be a banner link on your "Latest News and Updates."  Even if its to say that at this time Intuit is awaiting clarification from the IRS.  We want it to be clear that we are reading the latest news and if anything changes!

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

You keep referring us to the Latest Payroll News.  And THERE Isn't Anything there about how to OPT Out of this Executive Order. None of my employees want the extra money now, just to get hit with double taxes in January. Nor doing their own withholding so they have it to be able to pay back in January.  Payroll is coming up quickly for a number of us, and would like something to plan for.

What if our employees DO NOT want the deferment?

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

Thank you for joining the thread, @MontereycollegeofLaw and @KathyP1964.

We understand the urgency to get the option available in our program at the most immediate time for employees who want this option. Rest assured, our engineers are working on implementing this as soon as possible. This is to ensure our customers are up-to-date with the IRS guidelines.

Also, I want to let you know that the deferral of the employee's taxes is not mandatory, and employers can decide whether they want to opt-in. The potential to defer the withholding only applies to employees whose gross pay for the pay period is less than $4,000 for a bi-weekly pay period (or equivalent for other payroll periods, e.g. $2,000 for weekly payroll).

I also suggest checking our article that talks about the latest payroll news to keep you updated. Here's the link: Latest payroll news and updates.

I'm always here to listen if you have other concerns regarding payroll. You're welcome to post again or leave a reply below. Have a great day ahead.

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

Excellent to hear that Quickbooks will not force us into this Payroll Tax deferral scheme.

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

The drop dead date to implement this was September 1.  Intuit has failed.

The ones who are not interested in implementing this can easily avoid this - do nothing, problem solved.

For those who do want to do this - and the naysayers here fail to realize there are circumstances where this makes a lot of sense to opt in - how can this be accomplished.

I am using Intuit Online Payroll for which there is apparently no support community, because all searches for help with that product are redirected here.  Intuit Online Payroll support says unable to assist, same as they did a month ago, still no progress.

Executive order on Payroll tax deferral,

It's got very little to do with Intuit.  It's an opt in program.  Where Intuit has dropped the ball is in failing to provide functionality for those employers who do want to opt in.
