How do I add a customers EIN number to my existing payroll script in 2020?

Glad to have you here, @miketaxman,

Adding a client to an existing payroll subscription is easy and fast. Perform the steps below:

  1. Go to the Employees menu at the top of the customer's account.
  2. Select Payroll from the list, then pick Use My Existing Payroll Service.
  3. Mark the Use Subscription Number XXXXXXX [ Payroll Subscription Version] below Identify Subscription. If you don't see your own subscription in the list, select Other: I have an existing subscription and a Zip Code.
  4. Press Next twice to add the company EIN.
  5. Click on Return to QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if you don't have this option on the client's company file, I recommend contacting our phone support to create a Service Key for them. Here's how to get a support specialist:

  1. Go to your QuickBooks Home page, then click the Help menu at the top.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help from the drop-down.
  3. Hit the Contact us icon.

Once you have the key, enter it manually in QuickBooks. Follow these steps:

  1. From the Employees menu, pick Payroll.
  2. Choose Enter Payroll Service Key.

Two ways to verify the status of the Service Key:

  • On the Employees menu, select My Payroll Service then Manage Service Keys.
  • Press CTRL+ K on your keyboard.

Let me know how it goes by adding another comment below. I want to make sure your payroll gets activated, and I'm here if you need additional help. Have a good one! Take care!
