How do I eFile 1099-NEC for my contractor(s) now (before the New Federal Deadline @ 31Jan21) without having to fully file my filings, taxes and reporting for FY2020?

Welcome to the Community, @rob109.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), you can only do the following:

  • Organize your business spending.
  • Maximize your business deductions.
  • Claim a mileage deduction by tracking the business miles you drive.
  • Help you figure out your business profit.
  • Calculate your estimated tax payments.
  • Put your expenses into the correct Schedule C categories.
  • Export your records to an easy-to-read Schedule C.
  • Connect to TurboTax for fast year-end filing.

QBSE is designed to track your business transactions, income, and expenses. By the time you've to file your taxes, you'll be ready. I got you this article that you can read to learn more about how QBSE works: QuickBooks Self-Employed Overview.

Also, you can only view your contractor's W-9 in QBSE. You may want to consider subscribing to our QuickBooks Online (QBO) to file 1099 or use the e-file service (standalone) as a workaround.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have any additional questions, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. I'm always here to help. Have a good one!

How do I eFile 1099-NEC for my contractor(s) now (before the New Federal Deadline @ 31Jan21) without having to fully file my filings, taxes and reporting for FY2020?

@FritzF

Thank you for your answers and additional information. I did, however, manage to find the precise solution I was looking for. After a number of calls and chat sessions I discovered that this is a premium, add-on service that will allow me to eFile and make printable copies of the 1099-NEC so that I can file with the IRS, immediately, and send my Contractor her copies.

Not the most intuitive way of going about it, but I learned, as you just stated, the limitations of the options within my level of subscription. I'm grateful for being better-informed as well as being more aware of my options. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Robert

I am willing to pay for the efile service yet the software won't include all the contractors that our company paid in 2020 that need 1099s.  I am in search of a person to speak with about this problem.

I want to make sure this is taken care of, @b_Fizika.

When processing 1099s using an e-file service, you'll have to add the information manually for each contractor. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your 1099 E-File Service account.
  2. Click Enter information.
  3. Enter your 1099 data, then select OK.
  4. Input the values for the supported boxes and click OK.
  5. Verify your 1099 forms, then select Add to continue adding more contractors, or select Continue to proceed to the next step.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: File 1099-MISC forms using e-file service (standalone).

However, if you need further assistance filing your 1099s, I suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can guide you through the process of adding all your contractors to the Form 1099s.

You might want to read these articles to learn which payments should be excluded from the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC form:

Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance preparing your 1099-NEC. I'll be sure to get back to you.

Hi @Mark_R

I filed 4 1099 NEC in January. But today I got a W-9 from a vendor. I wanted to file just this 1099, but QB refiled the other ones too. It also charged me to file the previous ones. Please help me get a refund. Also, I am not sure if IRS would charge me a penalty for these refiled 1099 NEC. Kindly advise.

Thanks,

I’m here to help ensure this will sort out, @vgkish.

When preparing and filing 1099 in QuickBooks, you have the option to select and deselect a contractor or vendor from the list. That way, the program only generates one 1099 for you.

Since QuickBooks refiled these forms and has charged you for electronic services, I recommend contacting our Payroll Support team for further assistance. They can help you fix this refund matter and able to provide instructions about what happened.

You can follow these steps below depends on the QuickBooks version you’re using:

For QuickBooks Online

  1. Select the Help menu.
  2. Type Talk to a human in the field.
  3. Select or type, I still need a human.
  4. Type it again until you see a shortcut to connect with my human option.
  5. Click the Contact us link and select how you want to reach them.

For QuickBooks Desktop

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help F1.
  3. Click the Contact us.

Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have additional or any other payroll concerns. We’re always determined to help in any way we can. Keep safe.

Thanks for your reply @MadelynC

I only saw "select all" and "deselect all" buttons, there were no checkbox. And I didnot select either of these buttons. The previous four 1099 were showing "Submitted" and my new one showed "not submitted". Ideally the software should not submit those 1099 again !

When I spoke with a support person from QBO, i was told that refund of my payment would not be possible as QB has filed all 5.
