Hi there, @steve266.

Exported data from QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBO) are converted into a Microsoft Excel Worksheet file. You have to use a file converter to convert them into an .IIF file. This way, you can import your data into QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019.

Additionally, you've mentioned that you're not getting any files when exporting your data from QBO Payroll. This issue might be a cause of too much cache accumulation from your web browser. To clear this out, let' run some basic troubleshooting steps and finish your task.

To start, use a private browser to access your account in QuickBooks. It is also known as InPrivate in Internet Explorer and Incognito mode in Google Chrome. This mode doesn't record any activity on your local device.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If you're able to export your payroll data, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. You can also use another supported browser as an alternative option.

Once done, use a converter and convert your files to an .IIF format. Then, import your data into QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please make sure to back up your company file first before importing the files. This way, we can ensure that your data are safe in case of any unexpected import error.

I'll be around to help if you need anything else. Wishing you and your business continued success.
