How do I merge 2 companies together? When Intuit online payroll transitioned to QuickBooks online payroll it created a separate company.

Hello there, @art-b.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), moving one company data from one QBO to another is unavailable. Thus, to do the merging process, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Export lists reports to Excel from your current QBO account.
  2. Import it to your other QBO account.
  3. For the transactions, you can either:
       • Connect your bank account and import/manage the transactions.
       • Manually record the transactions from the account.
  4. Cancel the QBO subscription you're not going to use.

For more information about this process, see this article: Move your lists to QuickBooks Online.

If you need further assistance about merging your accounts, feel free to post again here. I'll be always around to lend you a hand. Have a great day.

These are not 2 different companies. I want the subscriptions that I have. When I log in now it asks to select the company, but they are the same name. It's just that one has everything except the payroll and the other one is only the payroll. It's the same company. This just happened after Intuit online payroll said it was migrating to Quickbooks online payroll.

I appreciate you for getting back to this thread, @art-b. Let me chime in and clarify things for you.

Intuit Online Payroll employee data, past payroll, and tax information will be ready in the QuickBooks Online Payroll product as soon as you or your client's transition.

In your case, you have two companies that you want to merge. As mentioned by my colleagues above, this process is unavailable. If you wish to transfer your payroll data to a QuickBooks Online account, you can follow the steps in this article: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you're unsure about the migration process and what to choose, you can reach out to our Support Team. They have the necessary tools to have a remote session with you and can closely look into your payroll setup.

In addition, you can also read this reference to learn about what to expect when you move from Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core.

Just let me know if you have other questions about your payroll company files in QuickBooks. I'll be around to assist you again. Have a good one!

I am on the phone with support for two hours now trying to fix this.  Hating every minute of it.

I know this wasn't an easy process for you, tarheelbornbred.

Allow me to provide some information about combining two companies in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, the option to merge two companies isn't available in QuickBooks Online. However, you can only export the data out from one account and import it to the second one.

To export data:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then click on Export Data under Tools.
  2. Add or remove items from the Reports and Lists tabs by toggling the slider.
  3. Tap on Export to Excel.

To import data:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Import Data.
  3. Click Chart of Accounts.
  4. Hit Browse, then search for the Excel file.
  5. Press Open, then Next.
  6. Follow the onscreen prompts to proceed.

As another option, you may consider looking for a third-party application to migrate the data between QBO accounts. Please visit this website: QuickBooks Apps.

In case you need help in merging your customer and vendor names, as well as the accounts from your chart of accounts in the future, use this link as your guide: Merge duplicate accounts, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if you have additional questions about merging accounts and data. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Have a great day ahead!

@tarheelbornbred

You may have 2 ways to merge data:

1. Utilize a migration tool

https://transactionpro.grsm.io/qbo

2. Purchase a 3rd party merging service.

support is no help. and it's ridiculous that when Intuit forced the IOP to QB payroll core transition that they didn't plan better for customers who would want to have the data together in one file. We're being punished for being an earlier adopter of payroll services.

Has there been any updates on this issue?  We are still operating under 2 separate companies, with one company storing the clients payroll files only and the other company storing the same clients QB accounting files.  This is frustrating and I'm hoping that Intuit has some sort of solution in place by now!  Well??

I'd also feel upset when something doesn't work the way we want it to be, KGkzoo22.

I haven't received updates regarding merging two companies after transitioning payroll services. The option to merge them is still unavailable.

You may consider looking for a third-party merging application that can help you integrate with QuickBooks. You can visit our QuickBooks App Store or navigate the Apps menu within your account. Here are the steps:

  1. Navigate the Apps tab.
  2. Enter a product functionality like merging companies in the Search box.
  3. Choose an app to review.
  4. Click on the Get app now.

Additionally, you can review the Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO to convert your data.

Hi there, tamaratrebil. I appreciate you for joining the thread.

Yes, it's true that when you log in from your IOP account to your QBO account, it sometimes brings up a different version with and without payroll information.

To help you with this, ensure you log in using the correct username in QBO. And to merge the accounts, you can log in without the payroll company and enter the prior payroll or get the data from the other company with payroll.

Also, ensure that you've subscribed to payroll under this company. After that, you can log in to the company with payroll-only data and cancel the subscription.

If the same error persists even if you logged on with the correct user name, I recommend contacting QuickBooks Online Payroll support.

They can help you find your payroll account and verify if your user name in IOP is linked to QBO.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Go to Help (?).
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern, then select Let's Talk.
  4. Choose a way to connect with us:
  • Start a chat with a support expert.
  • Get a callback from the next available expert.

You might need help merging your customer and vendor names and the accounts from your COA in the future, free to read this article: Merge duplicate accounts, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks Online.

Should you have more questions about managing your account in QBO payroll, don't hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to lend a hand. Take care!
