QuickBooks Online has a time-out functionality. This is to prevent unauthorized users from viewing your data if you're away from the computer. The program determines the time of inactivity based on the time you last saved a transaction.

 

You can keep your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account active for 3 hours. This way, you won't be logged out even if you leave your account open. Just a heads up, you'll need to be the Master Admin to have this option.

 

 Here's how to do it: 

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. In the Advanced section, click on Other preferences.
  4. Choose 3 hours from the Sign me out if inactive for drop-down.
  5. Hit Save.

Let's perform some troubleshooting solutions to get your QuickBooks Online (QBO) working, traciefurrer.

 

I've checked here on my end and there's no reported case about this one. There are times when a browser's cache data becomes full of the frequently accessed web or damaged. To better isolate this issue, let's try signing in to your QBO account using a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't use the existing cache data and helps us confirm browser-related issues. Let me show you how: 

 

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Option + P

 

Then, try saving transactions again. If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.

 

To prevent immediately logged out from QBO, let's extend the hours before you'll be signed out. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon on the top menu.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. Go to the Advanced tab.
  4. Click the Pencil icon in the Other preferences section.
  5. In the Sign me out if inactive for section, choose 3 hours.
  6. Press Save, then Done.

Hello my accountant and I just installed the new quickbooks desktop pro 2021 literally a week ago and I have been working on the program no problem backing it up as i go on a removable disk and all. today while working on the program it literally kicked me off and wont let me back in and everytime I try to click on quickbooks for it to open it shows me a message stating that there is an upgrade to contact support. what is going on with this program?

Thank you for dropping by the Community this afternoon. It sounds like there may be a required update to the software. In order to update to the latest release you can follow the steps in this article. However, these steps require you to log into your account to complete and it sounds like you're having issues with that as well. I have been getting the same thing. I get kicked out after half hour of being logged in, then they ask me if im not a robot and ask for verification code and i dont even have the 2-step verification turned on. I was on chat with a quickbooks tech and they said it is nothing to do with them. but i have used the same comptuer for the last 3 years and nothing has changed on my end. I have done everything to try and fix the issue and it still does it. Very frustrating when you pay for a service and they cant even help you, and tell you that is is not their issue.

Your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account's security is our top priority, dr-botova. 

 

I understand you're in a tough spot here, and this isn't something we want you to experience while using QuickBooks.  

 

QuickBooks uses two-step verification as a security setting to confirm your identity when logging in to your account using your password and a unique code that sent to your mobile phone or email. Let's double-check if this is turned off. 

 

  1. Go to this link: Intuit account, and then use your QuickBooks Online (QBO) credentials. 
  2. Choose the Sign In & Security, and in the Two-step verification section, select Turn off.
  3. Enter the code, then select Continue.

Once verified, it's turned off, yet asking for verification code. I would suggest clearing the cache. There are times that the browser's cache stores internet files and history that causes unusual behavior within QuickBooks. 

 

If you get the same thing, we'll want to give our Customer support another chance to look into this problem. That way, they can help you immediately, and you'll no longer get codes when you sign in. 

 

  1. Click on Help (?). Then Talk to human.
  2. Select the Search tab. 
  3. Click Contact Us at the bottom, and choose a way to connect with us:
  4. Start a chat with a support expert.
  5. Get a callback from the next available expert.
