Currently, we're unable to merge two accounts since you already have a payroll account connected with QuickBooks Online (QBO).
However, you can try to look at a third-party application that has a feature you need for your business. This way, you can import the list of your transactions. Here's the link: QuickBooks App Store. You can also go to the Apps menu in your QBO account and look for an app from there.
I also recommend checking our QuickBooks blog page regularly so you'll be updated on the latest features and improvements in QBO.

But it makes no sense as I was forced to go to qb payroll from intuit full service payroll. I did not ask for it but forced by qb. Then, I moved to qbo from existing accounting software as I was using qb payroll. But when I purchased qbo with same id as qb payroll it created a separate account for qbo. That was not the reason why I moved to qbo. I see qb payroll already in my qbo but still I have to use the other standalone payroll which is ridiculous and defeats the whole purpose of having all in 1 place.
But this makes no sense why I have 2 qb account 1 for payroll and 1 for accounting while it’s the same company. I was forced to move to an payroll from intuit full service payroll. Then, I purchased qbo and moved from my other accounting software so that I can have all in 1 place. I purchased qbo with same Id as the ab payroll but it created a separate account for me. So now I have 1 for payroll and 1 for accounting which is ridiculous when it’s the same company me and qbo shows payroll inbuilt in it. Quick book should definitely merge my accounts in 1 otherwise it’s cheating as I was forced to move to qb and then When I buys another product with same email they create a separate account so they can charge me more.
This isn't the kind of impression I'd like you to have, user94236. I'm here to point you in the right direction to take care of this.
I recommend contacting our QuickBooksSupport Team to have this checked and investigated. They are also equipped with tools to handle these duplicate QuickBooks accounts.

Horrible support here and when I call for being the user of the Advanced version which is your highest paid subscription. They promise VIP support for the Advanced version but it seems even VIP team does not have answer. Someone should take care of the issue and know what is going on.
I have the same problem. A few years back it is how QB told me to set it up - and after several attempts over the past two years the answer is the same:
There is no merge, no import of information. So, you have to manually enter all the information for each employee for all payrolls.
Seems rather unlikely to me there is no "export" and "import" but there is not.
If I didn't have so much time and $$ invested in QB I would have left a long time ago. However, here we are and I assume the others are no better. The VIP we pay for just gets me someone I have to explain it to all over again and is rather frustrating (which is why this has not been solved before)
Set up the employees and manually put in all the information. That is all there is. :(
Hello there, malindajulien.
Let me share some insights about merging 2 QuickBooks Online account.
I have two options on how we can manually merge your accounts. First, we can retain one account and then export the lists and reports from the other account. Another way of merging them is to subscribe to another QBO account. From there, we can export and then import both companies’ data to the new one.
Let me walk you through exporting your data:
A folder will download with all the reports you exported. Follow the same steps when exporting your Lists. After exporting, we can now import the data to the new account or the retained one.
Here’s how:
I have a few articles that you can look into for more information about the exporting and importing process.
In addition, if you opted to create a new account, you might need to cancel the other two accounts to avoid additional charges.
Get back to me if you have any more questions. I'm a post away.
You may have 2 options to merge data:
1. Utilize a migration tool as I mentioned earlier.
https:// transactionpro.grsm.io/qbo
2. Purchase a 3rd party data merging service.
Same problem here today as well. Logging in to fullservicepayroll I get the notice I have to migrate to qbo. Fine, I run the process and—surprise, surprise—I end up with two accounts when I try to log into my normal quickbooks online account.
This is with no warning, no prompt that this will occur. Both accounts are for exactly the same named company with exactly all the same info including log-in email. AND, my old payroll account had been linked to my Quickbooks Online account so that transactions could be exported.
How in the heck is this the default behavior, to end up with two accounts where data has to be transferred continuously between them? Who thought this was a good idea? The new QBO payroll account was created from scratch; how did no one think "hey, maybe we should see if they have an existing account and add payroll services to that"?
Exact same thing happened to me. On top of that I am now being charged $10 per ach transaction for merchant services payments that has been FREE forever! If I continue to use qbo payments, it will cost me over 20k a year, $10 at a time.
I got the the notice to switch our intuit payroll to qb. I have 4 accounts and when I did one of the accounts of the accounts just fine. I am not getting the option now to switch the other accounts. HOW do I switch the other accounts from Intuit
Hello there, Keckids6_dare.
If the other three accounts are not yet switched, from Intuit Payroll to QuickBooks. Then, you may need to access it using the old way on how you open the other accounts. But if those accounts are added to QuickBooks Online, to switch them quickly, follow these steps:
Once done, the company you choose will now be active.

I have contacted help 3 times spending no less than 30 minutes each time and having a ticket put in each time. most recently was 5/7/21 ticket: [removed]. I am still waiting for a response. Not at all happy with this forced migration that obviously was not ready to be done!!
QuickBooks Team - So if you think that can be done please do option 1 to my account. I have the most advanced level of subscription so you should be able to help me on this
This solution does not work, if it does please do for my account
I am having the same problem. I had IOP, I was asked to migrate to QBO Payroll. I ended up doing it. I went into QBO Payroll -> Settings -> Billing and Subscriptions and signed up for QBO Simple Start. It asked for my credit card and processed it as well. It shows that I have subscribed to QBO Simple start, but I dont see any of the screens for QBO Simple start, not even a setup option.
If QBO Simple start doesnt work with QBO Payroll, why even give the user the option to sign-up?
It has been a hassle to get support and they dont seem to know what to do either
Has anyone been able to have this issue solved for them?
Thanks for joining us here, @akolagotla.
I have more steps we can try. To confirm, were you able to migrate from IOP to QBO successfully? If not, please follow the detailed steps provided in this article below.
Try doing the steps using a private browser or an incognito window. This is to check if it's a browser-related or a subscription issue.

Thanks for the quick reply Sheilla. The migration from IOP to Payroll was successful. No issues there that I can see.
I tried using an incognito chrome browser and Brave browser as well. I am having the same issue, it redirects me to QBOPayroll instead on QBO

Thanks Glinette.
Finally, I was able to get someone within support who seemed knowledgeable. He said there is NO way to have QBO SimpleStart added to QBO Payroll and have the two linked. The only way is to start fresh with QBO and then add Payroll as an add-on.
tbh... this is deceiving and a pretty poor customer experience. I purchased QBO SimpleStart from within QBO Payroll. If this doesn't work or isn't linkable, Intuit shouldn't be misleading customers by providing a sign-up link for QBO Simple start from within QBO Payroll
Sharing this so that it may save others from the frustration I have been thru. I had to talk to multiple customer support reps before finding one who knew something about this.
Can you import your quickbooks payroll data. I am in the same situation 2 years later. I had intuit online payroll, they are discontinuing the service and said it would migrate to Quickbooks. The data migrated to quickbooks, but it created an alternate account. Now I have all my bookkeeping in one location and payroll in another. I have been on with tech support and nobody has an answer to this. Please help.
Thanks for sharing your concern on this thread, karensamuels.
After reading your question, I wanted to verify some additional details with you if you do not mind. Are you subscribed to both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Payroll Core? If so, let me share some information about the situation.
Last year, Intuit Online Payroll moved to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core. This is a standalone payroll without the accounting plan. You can read this article or more information: Move from Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core.
If you want to import your payroll data to your bookkeeping account, please make sure to set up the accounting preferences in your payroll account.
Here's how:
After the steps, you can export your payrolls from the Paycheck list page.
Here's how:
I've got this sample screenshot for a visual reference:

Quickbooks is horrible! I had desktop MAC 2019 made me move to payroll online last year. Great did it and would export payroll. Last week hey we are doing away with desktop 2019 need to go to qb online. Was on the phone for no less than 6 hours upgrading. Rep #1 - create 2 accounts great your done. I called back why do I have 2 accts (payroll & accounting) Rep #2 oh they did it wrong cancel the new account and go into your payroll account and add the accounting piece so it's all linked. Great I'll export data. Nope Data Error - call back can't import data - Rep #3 Oh yeah it's known you need 2 accounts if you already have a payroll online acct. Go in and reactivate the new acct and cancel the one on the payroll account for the qb online, leave the payroll. OK great so now I have 2 accts not ideal but doable.
Today run payroll in payroll online, go to export - Export button GONE! Call and spoke to a rep for 2 hours explaining that I thought it was b/c the payroll acct thought I had the accounting program linked, but I cancelled it (still active till 4/6). 2 hrs later - sorry nothing we can do b/c you have the accounting program on the payroll account.
OMG QB get it together - your reps jacked up my accounts now you are telling me there is no way to import my payroll into my accounting program (acct #2). How can I run books for a company without knowing totals of payroll and what chart of accounts they go to!!!!!
Employees got Paid but books are going to be so jacked up!!!! I have googled everything and can not find a solution biggest issue is there is not an export button and probably never will be b/c it thinks I merged the 2 (payroll and accounting) together - which I didn't!!!!
