Thanks for following up with the Community, dmqcleaningservi. I appreciate your detailed information.

The error message you're seeing is usually caused by importing data from QuickBooks Desktop or turning on payroll after adding employees. It can also display if the customer, vendor, or employee name you're trying to add already exists on one of your lists.

To fix this, you can change their display name or make the profile inactive.

Here's how:

  1. In your left navigation bar, as appropriate, go to Sales, Expenses, Workers, or Employees, then choose Customers, Vendors, or Employees.
  2. Find the duplicate vendor, customer, or employee.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Locate their Display name as field and add a digit to the end of their name, or change its format to "last, first". If the profile's no longer in use, you can use your Make inactive option.
  5. Select Save and close.

I've also included a detailed resource about this error which may come in handy moving forward: Error - The name supplied already exists. Another customer, vendor, or employee is already using thi...

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a lovely day!

I'm I already on the company's list of employees as the owner of the company?

I just signed up to Payroll Core but when I try to add myself to the employee list, it says: "GraphQL error: The name supplied already exists. : Another customer, vendor or employee is already using this name. Please use a different name."

I don't have anyone nor anything on the list yet. Can you help me with this issue?

Under Settings, Your Company, Manage Users, you may see your name and email as the Primary Admin. That appears to be another location QBO detects as a duplicate. I temporarily changed the First Name, Last Name and Email of the Primary Admin to something other than my own and was then able to add myself as an employee. Immediately after adding myself as an employee, I was able to change the Primary Admin information back to my name and email without a duplicate name error message. None of the Intuit representatives online or on the phone seem to be aware of this bug or workaround.
