Does anyone know how to remove addresses from your list of work locations in quickbooks online payroll advanced? I have tried everything and I cannot modify the list. I cannot stand the phone support and my list is long so I would love to avoid sitting on the phone with someone to do something we should be able to do ourselves in settings somewhere
Thanks for checking in with us, chelseak19.
To remove the addresses from your list of work locations, we can inactivate the work location in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Here's how:
Select Work Locations.
Mark the Inactive checkbox.
Tap Save.
To learn more about assigning a new work location, see the Set up and assign a new work location article. Also, I'm adding our Tax forms page for more insights about and managing your tax forms in QuickBooks. Feel free to visit our Payroll page for more insight about managing your payroll transactions in QuickBooks.
Please update us on the result after trying the steps as I'd like to ensure this is resolved for you. Just leave a comment below and I'll be back with you. You have a good one.
There is no company and account section under payroll settings.
Hey there, @chelseak19.
Thanks for following up with us.
The steps may be different for you if you're using a different payroll subscription. The steps provided by my colleague are for QuickBooks Online Payroll Enhanced. If you take a look at Set up and assign a new work location and look for your payroll subscription, you can find the steps for you.
If you're not sure which payroll subscription you're currently using, I recommend taking a look at Which payroll service do I have? This way, you'll know for sure which service you're using.
Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. Take care!
@Tori B I dont have Enhanced, so that is why the steps you sent do not work. The link you just provided has instructions to add a location. I asked how to REMOVE one. I double checked and I have Quickbooks Online Payroll Premium
Hello there, chelseak19.
Did the steps provided by my colleague RCV work? I can show you a few screenshots of where to inactivate work locations in the old payroll settings.

@Catherine_B No, I keep getting instructions for subscriptions I do not have. I refuse to sit on the phone with support and make these changes. Phone support is terrible and it will take hours
This isn't the kind of impression I'd like you to have, @chelseak19.
One of my colleagues above mentioned letting you inactivate work locations in the old payroll settings.
Since you're still unable to remove the work location, I'd recommend you clear your browser's cache.
Here's how:
If you're still having the same issue, please provide the exact error message that you are getting for us to look into it further.

@Ethel_A I am not getting an error message. I am being sent instructions to go into areas/menus that do not exist. What would deleting cookies do for that? Perhaps you need to re-read the entire conversation.
@Ethel_A I am not getting error messages. I have been sent instructions to go into menu settings that do not exist in my quickbooks. I have also been sent instructions to complete a task I did not ask for help with. How would deleting my cookies help with that? Perhaps you need to re-read the entire conversation here because I keep getting sent instructions that are either for the wrong Quickbooks, or for something I did not ask for assistance with
I appreciate your time getting back here, chelseak19.
Let me clear things up with the steps above.
The instructions provided previously is for the Enhanced version of QuickBooks Online Payroll. To see the comparison of both plans, here's a sample screenshot:

@RenjolynC thanks but phone support is a nightmare and I will avoid it at all cost. which is why I posted to find out how to do it myself, which does not seem to be an option. So this will just have to go unresolved
@RenjolynC thank you but phone support is a nightmare and I avoid whenever possible. if it cannot be done online, it will not get done at all. I would rather work through a list of extra locations than sit on the phone with someone for hours who is also chatting with someone else to find the answers to their questions because they dont actually know how to answer my questions or navigate quickbooks. this as well as just about every other issue I have will have to go unresolved
This is ridiculous. I'm having the same exact problem and none of the customer service people can seem to figure out how to work their own software. Pretty pitiful considering how much we're paying.
I'm guessing there's still not way to remove an old work location?
I'm using Quickbooks Online and Online Payroll Core.
I know it could be frustrating to be held up like this when you just want to get your job done, John.
We want to make sure this issue is reported immediately to our Support Team. In QuickBooks, you can make a work location inactive if it is not associated to an active employee. If you're still unable to remove it, we have to forward you to our live representatives for the fix. I know you already called us before, but only our Support Team can create escalations regarding system issues within the program.
To connect with our Team, follow the steps below in your QuickBooks Online account:
You can also call our Payroll support at 800-446-8848. Another option is to chat with an expert using the links below.
We appreciate your patience with this payroll concern. If you have other concerns in QuickBooks that needs immediate attention, please tag me anytime. I'm always right here to help you.
@johntrice and they just keep pushing these instructions on how to call support as if we dont already know how to do that. But I dont want to sit on the phone for 2 hours with support when they cant fix anything most times. I did a chat today and it took the person 45 minutes to "verify my account" before she was able to send a 3 word answer to a very simple question. And the answer was - there is no way to do that. Same as the locations. I would be fine with some of these issues if support was better but I dont want to sit on the phone for the 3 hours it would take for a rep to remove unnecessary locations. For the money spent, they should apply some of that to finding better ways to support
I spent an hour in a chat yesterday trying to get my old work location removed so that I'm not billed for multiple states. The person said they were able to do it, after 20 minutes of trying. Of course I immediately logged on and it wasn't changed so I thought, well maybe it will take a few hours. I look this morning....still hasn't changed. How is it even possible that you have a fleet of customer service people who don't even know how to use the software they're supposed to be delivering customer service for? So stupid. I've now spent a total of 6 hours trying to resolve this problem. Needless to say, I've already started my search for a new accounting and payroll service.
I'll make sure you get the support you need because I understand how precious time is for you, @johntrice.
I'd be glad to help remove the inactive work location, however, for security reasons, I'm unable to pull up the personal information needed here in the Community. I know you've already called our support team. However, I still suggest reaching out to them again. They have available tools to remove the work location in no time.
Make sure to contact them within business hours to ensure a swift response. And if you have the case ID handy, please provide that to our agents. This way, they can help and look for the details of your issue quickly.
Additionally, I'll take note of your experience with our support and send this feedback to our dedicated team. This way, we can improve the services we offer to our customers.
Furthermore, feel free to visit our QuickBooks Online Payroll page. This article contains steps on how to manage your employees, paychecks, and other payroll information.
Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have follow-up questions. I'm always ready to work with you again to address QuickBooks-related issues. Keep safe, johntrice.
I also can't delete any work locations from the Payroll Settings screen, as this feature was completely removed from the Payroll Settings screen for some reason under Quickbooks Payroll Premium. Why would you remove the robust feature set from the previous version of the Payroll Settings screen? This makes no sense at all and is infuriating. I don't have time to sit on the phone with customer support to get these work locations removed. You need to bring these features back.
Hey Intuit moderators. I hope you're escalating this issue to your superiors and software dev. This is crazy. They left the ability to edit work locations out of the Payroll Core service for online use. I can't do this either. It's absolutely crazy. And boy, could I not echo the sentiments more of previous posts for users that phone support is useless. USELESS. No one has any idea how their single piece of software they service works.
I'm running Online Payroll Core and had the same issue after we moved our office this past June. Despite updating the new work address everywhere, the old address kept appearing on paystubs. I spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and could not. After reading this thread, I decided to throw in the towel and call customer service.
I have never called before, and expected the worst. I started in the online help section of QB and typed my issue and then typed call me. It made some suggestions and then prompted me if I still needed a human. I said yes and it confirmed my number and said they would call me. I got a call about 5 minutes later from caller ID "Intuit Inc" and a rep on the phone verified my info and then the problem. After about 10 minutes she confirmed the old and new addresses and said the problem was corrected. After we hung up I ran a new payroll and indeed the new office address was on the paystub.
My thoughts: It is a glaring problem in Core that needs to be fixed so that users can correct the problem themselves. QB employees posting instructions that cannot be used in Core is also a huge problem, don't post instructions until you ask the version being used. It sounds like I may have got lucky on the call center, but it was literally a very simple call and fix.
With end of year approaching, my big concern was the old employer address populating tax documents, so this needed to be dealt with. Use the call me feature so you don't have to wait on hold. Good luck to others.
Sadly, I called and after spending a long time on the phone customer service was NOT able to fix it and seemed befuddled as to why. This a VERY obvious use case. That now after A YEAR the problem is still a problem, and cannot be solved reliably even on the phone, is mind boggling.
This issue creates potential legal issues, by generating pay stubs with "false" address (since QB will not let me change it and customer service staff cannot change it for me). The paystub address does not match W-2 address or company actual physical address. So, employees cannot truthfully provide correct company address and have it match paystubs; cannot give last year's W-2 and current pay stub. Can an employee sue my company if they are denied, for example, a mortgage because the paystub has this "fake" address and does not match company records or government tax records? TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
It's not important to Intuit.
The problem is not fixed even in 2023.
Fixing this issue does not make them more money, so they aren't going to bother.
I worked there, and this is the official attitude of management.
I've tried these steps. Even though there are no employees assigned to a particular location I cannot make it inactive, I cannot delete it and it won't let me move the primary location to our new address.
