Join nowOn opening my company I get a warning "You must download and intall the latest payroll update before you can process payroll forms." Clicking OK just brings back the warning again. After many clicks, a "Working" box shows "Searching ... 11%". The warning comes back. After about 100 clicks on OK the program errors out. I can't do anything other than click OK. Please help as I need to get payroll out on Monday.
Let's update your payroll, @johndk.
Since you're unable to do anything other done performing the looping process in downloading payroll updates, I recommend to manually download the file with updates from your computer and run it.
It is called a web-patch update that you can use when we're unable to download updates within QuickBooks.
Here are the steps:
Please feel free to share your update after following the steps I mentioned. I'll be around to help. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for your reply. I was hopeful, but disappointed. Followed the steps exactly. The web patch install, did not ask for computer restart. But I restarted anyway. Opened program, which took a little longer than usual. But then right back to the same problem ... no change.
Hope there is something else I can try.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was hopeful, but disappointed.
Followed instructions exactly. Installed web patch. It did not call for a restart, but I did so anyway. When I opened the company, it took a little longer than usual. But then right back to the original problem. No change.
Hope there is something else I can try.
I have more steps to recommend that can resolve common errors when downloading payroll updates, johndk.
QuickBooks Desktop processes sometimes get stuck and need a restart. Close the program and Run the reboot.bat tool to give it a fresh start. Then, download the update once again to check if that's successful.
If the same issue persists, let's repair your software. This process resolves common errors and issues when working with QuickBooks Desktop. Follow the steps in this article on how to complete the process: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
Once done, re-open the program and download an update. Just in case the same issue appears, please follow the steps in these articles for additional options:

Disappointed once again.
It would have been helpful to mention that the reboot.bat file is in the root Quickbooks folder. But I found it. Ran it successfully. Re-ran the webpatch. Rebooted. And still in the same place as before.
As far as repairing the application, I'm on Windows 10 Pro and the only option I have is to uninstall. I have no option to repair. The software seems to be running correctly. I have a non-payroll company set up and it runs that just fine.
I get 2 windows errors which might help pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for sharing an update of the troubleshooting, @johndk,
You've done all possible solutions to fix data issues within the company file. Since you're getting the same hitch, I would recommend getting in touch with our QuickBooks Support for further assistance. Actually, tech support is where I started. I was blown away by the fact that they are CLOSED for the weekend. I was hopeful of being able to find something before Monday when I have to meet payroll. But I guess I'm out of luck.
Thank you all for taking the time to try to help out. I truly appreciate your help even though it didn't work out. Hopefully there won't be a mile long queue waiting for tech support on Monday morning. ... one can dream!
