Can we list volunteers under workers and not have an issue with payroll or taxes?

Yes, you can set these volunteers as your employees without affecting your payroll or taxes. As long as you don't run payroll for them, there will be no issues with your payroll.

Thanks so much -  another question can i  write them a check to reimburse them for office supplies they pick up without the system considering it payroll?

You'll want to go to the + New button and write a check from there. Let me guide you how.

In your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account:

1. Go to the + New button.
2. Select Check.
3. Choose the Payee from the drop-down list.
4. Specify the Bank Account where the money will be withdrawn.
5. Complete the needed details.
6. Once done, click Save and close or Save and new.
