Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

Thanks for providing additional info, @MTC CFO.

Check numbers being assigned to imported direct deposits may confuse our accounting. I've got a a workaround that you'll want to follow to avoid this issue.

Follow these steps:

  1. Before importing them to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), open the IIF file in Excel.
  2. Then, under the DOCNUM column, add "DD" to direct deposit transactions.
  3. Go to the File menu, select Save, then Yes.
  4. Exit Excel. You'll get a prompt to save the IIF again. Select Don't Save.

You can also check out our guide in exporting, importing, and editing IIF files for your benefit.

Please know that I'm only a few clicks away if you have any follow-up questions about importing your payroll transactions. Wishing you and your business continued success!

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

Also having the same issue exporting from QBO Core to Enterprise.  Please tell me Intuit is working on this issue?  A work around is not acceptable for something that has been going on this long.  My disappointment is not directed to you, LieraMarie - you provided the only solution available.  Its Intuit that needs to be working on this issue since they are selling QBO payroll as a product that exports to desktop so it should do so without issue!  This issue is a huge headache!

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

Read all the questions and answers regarding check numbers and ours does the same thing.  This is an issue within quickbooks online payroll and exporting an IIF file.  Perhaps it should be looked into a little more by quickbooks becuase it's happening to more than one person.

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

HI

My check numbers are always off after running payroll caused by the 2 direct deposits I have.

The system says "another check already has that number" whenever I write a check after P/R.

Each week I have to select, "keep the check number". Therefore, I always have at least 2 checks per week with the same check numbers. How can I make QB not assign a check number to my direct deposits?

Thank you

Cathy

Auto-assigning of check numbers can't be turned off, Cathy.

QuickBooks allows you to print paychecks while running payroll, or you can choose to print them or Advice of Deposit forms later. Please check the steps I've outlined below:

  1. Process Scheduled/Unscheduled Payroll.
  2. In the Enter Payroll Information window, you can select Handwrite & Assign Check Numbers if you’re writing your paycheck by hand.
  3. Review paycheck information then select Continue.
  4. Select Create Paychecks
  5. On the Confirmation & Next Steps, select Print Paychecks.

As always, you can visit our QuickBooks Community help website if you need tips and related articles in the future.

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

We're talking about Direct Deposit here.  Here's a screenshot of payroll information.  No check number shows here, no feature to eliminate check numbers.  Still assigns check numbers when downloaded to QB Desktop.  It's unfortunate with all the "updates" in QB Online Payroll, the feature to not assign check numbers for Direct Deposit was lost.  Thanks for supplying an insufficient response - again.

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

i have the same issue and they are dancing around or don't understand the question. It's ridiculous that i have to open up the IIf file every time i export and make a change. Their system should be able to talk to their other system.

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

WOW. Someone PLEASE escalate this issue. I feel like we are all talking with a chatbot. (and not a very good reader at that) I'll restate the problem we are all having:

Is there a way to have QB Desktop leave the check number blank for imported payroll checks?

Our payroll checks are all Direct Deposited, and show "DD" in the QB online payroll system, but that info is not passed to QB Desktop when exported payroll data is imported. I have to manually edit the number for each check (set to blank, or ACH, etc), so that the next check printed remains in the right sequence and there are no duplicated check numbers in the register.

It is clear that there is a problem with how QB desktop handles imported checks without check numbers. This should be a preference that is adjustable, or the check number field should be left blank until that check is printed. Not a hard fix. I dealt with this for YEARS before I thought to look here. I'm certain there are thousands of users like me who are incrementally annoyed by this bug. after enough bugs - we look for a better product.

THIS SHOULD BE ON THE TOP OF THE LIST OF BUGS TO FIX WITH THE NEXT UPDATE.

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

For any payments, direct deposit, taxes or otherwise, a check number in QuickBooks desktop is automatically assigned.  You have to manually go in and remove these.  QB online payroll doesn't know either.

This has been an issue for years and has not been addressed.  Like many other QBOnline problems.  Are others still having the same problem?

Does Quickbooks payroll assign check numbers to direct deposit payroll?

Just wondering why this issue is marked as solved when obviously it is not?  Every time I export payroll to an IIF file and import it into desktop check numbers are assigned to direct deposits and I have to go into each one to change it to DD so my check numbers are correct.  Many people are saying the same thing.  Can you tell us what the plan is to fix this problem?
